Well after trawling through 100 pages trying to work out the problem finally found out that surround sound just does not work with ME2....

Well...thats just great, its 2010 not 1980....

Cannot believe in order to hear the voices during cutscenes I need to set my speakers from 7.1 down to quad just to play this game...

Seriously Bioware, I love you guys, but this is schoolboy stuff....and as I noticed there has been no official word on this, are we to assume a fix is on the way in the near future?

Disappointed to say the least.

Surround works perfectly fine here. I have integrated Realtek HD and Logitech x530 5.1.

5.1 sound works perfectly for me over analogue or a digital out via a x-fi fatality titanium card.

have you got the settings in control panel set up ok? As i assume it uses windows setting as theres no in game option.

Itys a realtek and or an audigy problem.

Lots and lots of posts, and no official comments about it. I mean seriously, 2 of the biggest sound configs in the pc business don't work....I mean....wtf?

And yes....all present and correct config wise....spent 3 hours last night trying different things, the ONLY way I can get to hear the talking during cutscenes is to completly disable SS and use quad settings....

Hey, happened upon a link....what OS are guys using that have it working? Looks like it may be a Win7 issue....

Surround sound works for me in windows 7 64-bit. using x-fi Xtremegamer, with the create switcher app. I know one guy had a problem with SS, and it was because he had the switcher set to Entertainment and not Game.

I am getting surround through my Radeon 5850's HDMI out, but the dialogue almost always sounds like it is coming out of a can. I think there's an issue with how the center channel sound is mixed, as sounds from other channels seem just fine.

I'm running a phantom center, but still...

Sounds like a problem I was having with my onboard realtek soundcard when playing ME1. Had to resort to using headphones as stereo was the only option. Upgraded to a sound blaster prior to ME2 and have not any problems with surround sound. Glad to see you resolved your issue.

Working well with my Audigy 4/Logitech x540 5.1 setup under Vista SP1 x64 (once I swapped my front channel line out from my xbox to my PC that is   ).

Not working as well (or at all I suppose) when trying to plug the SPDIF out into my home theater setup however.

Bumping this in hopes of an answer.

I also find that my dialogue during cutscenes seems to reverberiate as though coming from tin can. I've played around with my various sound settings, but nothing seems to resolve it. Interestingly enough I'm using a different setup than the person I'm quoting, yet have the same thing.

I'm running with a Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Titanium and the Razer Barricuda HP-1 Headset.

The 5.1 surround sound works fine save for the cutscenes. Dialogue and commentariy on the field sounds beautiful, but as soon as I get into a cutscene I experiance the reverb tin can effect.

As I've said, I've tried adjusting various settings via the creative console and haven't found an answer yet. I'm hoping someone else has? It's really starting to give me a headach.

Dropping down to 4.1 does fix it, but seems like a cop out.

5.1 surround sound works fine, but no matter what I try, my two side speakers remain silent. Its funny though, the launcher is the only part of the game that 'supports' 7.1 surround sound.

I had a Realtek with 7.1 which was great. To get the surround sound working fine in all my games I had to juggle drivers and ended up using drivers that didn't come from my mb vendor, their had the surround sound prob.

I'm sure you probably fiddled with the voice, music, background sound levels in the game's audio settings but new cards are coming with drivers that have special voice features to try and bring out voice more, I wonder if that could be causing a prob and maybe needs to be disabled. I haven't tried it on my card but I've seen the voice settings for gaming in my control panel.

Hmmm. I haven't seen anything resembling voice controls. That sounds like it may be part of the problem. Will go digging and see what I can find.

If your sound works in Win 7 64bit with an xfi can you post your settings?
