Are these complaints coming from hardcore RPG-fans?

First I love RPGs as much as the next person.  I have a huge collection of them.  But I also like action games and I like shooters so maybe this is why I can live with the changes in ME2.  Though I do miss some of the RPG elements I am not nearly  down on the game as a lot of these people I see on the forum.  IN no way is this a bad game or a ruined franchise.  I dont know why Im taking this personal but some of these comments is like a slap in the face to the developers after they worked so hard to fix the thiings we didnt like in the first game.  They sat there and listened when they didn't have to.  Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but if you dont like the changes( which I see one of the biggest complaints is RPG elements) then just say it but there is no need for insults.    The game is a lot more fluid and intense than the first one ( as many requested)  but some people are just lookin for perfection which is impossible.

I'm in the same boat as you- I love BioWare games, but I also love shooters like TF2, Killing Floor, and games like Deus Ex and Indigo Prophesy. I was just assuming that it was the RPG-heavy fans that were getting mad over this.

My favorite part is that the RPG fans say things like "twitch" and "FPS" without knowing what they mean. Seriously, there is more "twitch" style action in ME1 than 2 and and a TPS is much more tactical than an FPS. They throw insults and random general insults because they refuse to try out a new style of combat that isn't turn-based or based on stats.

EDIT:  I shouldn't say "RPG fans" like that, because I' ma big RPG fan too myself, I mean, I beat each Bioware game up until now three times minimum, and I also played quite a bit of Morrowind and Oblivion.  I just aso like action games and TPS's.  I consider ME2 a true hybrid TPS/RPG

No the complaints are coming from people who were dissatisfied with the game.

Is that not obvious?

I thought ME2 was pretty cool but ME1 was the real deal.

I felt like Mass Effect was somewhat of a dissapointment, while it's sequel is an absolute masterpiece.

ME2 had a lot more immersion to it than ME1 and the role-playing was far better execcuted. The game rewards the effort you put into building your team for the suicide mission and it is just that...a suicide mission. During my first playthrough I was lacking in a couple of research areas that affected the team's defenses and damage and I also made a couple of tactical errors in not assigning the best qualified people for certain duties at the game's end and it cost me dearly....I lost 2 people at the end. That is REAL consequence for your actions that ME1 didn't have even a tiny hint of. ME2 is a truly great and epic RPG while ME1 is mediocre at best.  And then the romances are a million times better executed than in ME1.

I'd argue no, but then again I have a different view.

I consider myself a hardcore RPG fan, and to me it is not only incorrect but also a tad offense when people refer to Dragon Age as an RPG. Anything that tries to mimick "real time" and devolves into a click-fest for combat, eschewing the traditional turn based systems, cannot be called an RPG. Oh, how I hearken back to the good old days of the SSI Gold Box games....

Also, to note, even being a "hardcore" RPG nut, I love both ME1 and ME2 (starting my third runthrough of the game just now actually).

I'm a bit confused as to what you exactly mean by that.

I also like shooters, and I like RPGs.

But when I buy a game expecting an RPG and end up with a shooter, you can probably see that there would be issues.

"role-playing" =/= turn-based combat.

So that's an overly narrow view of what an RPG is.

That said, it's perfectly legitimate to prefer that style of play.  I can even understand why, as you say, new real time stats based games would be better off just going the pure action route, as it often turns into a mindless skill-less click-fest on anything but the highest difficulties.

ME1 had a good story and was long in game play(clocked in 60+ hours) ME2 still good story but lacking somewhat and was to damn short in my book.

The complaints aren't coming from the true hardcore RPG fans they are coming from whining machines that call themselves RPG fans....you know the kind that complain about not having a billion types of shoes to choose from while they are highly disappointed in the fact the game has an epic story because as far as they can tell only games that make you grind for a billion hours for a pair of armor plated underwear for your PC and with a strictly linear story where you never make any kind of meaningful choice deserves to be called an RPG.

I personally care much more about the actual role-playing element of an RPG than the combat system. While I liked the more-classic RPG style of character leveling and fighting in ME1, I still also like the ME2 combat system. If anything, it makes the game a new experience and lets ME1 stand on it's own rather than become outdated.

I also agree that it's rude for people to come on these forums and bash Bioware because the don't like ME2. Anyone who was on the forums during ME1 knows that Bioware actually read the fan suggestions and implemented almost all of them, everything down to bathrooms on the Normandy. Bioware is a great company because it interacts with its customers and tailor-makes it's games to their requests. I don't know what more you could ask for from a game company, and if you can't find anything nice to say about it, you shouldn't even be on the forums.

What about the customers that don't like what they did to the sequel? Why should they have to stay away from the forums when they are dissatisfied with a product they paid for?

How is Bioware going to listen to their customers if all the complaints are silenced? I'm sure they will make all sorts of improvements when they have no idea that there are any problems.

No it's mostly from idiots who think they know what an RPG is and actually have no idea, but then will complain about things they think are iconic of an RPG, stuff like "RPGS DON'T HAVE AMMO, FAIL"
