I realize that this is not exactly the correct place to post this, and it would be more mature to not post this at all but I feel it must be said. I bought Mass Effect back in 2007 on the release day and watched over the course of two years, three now, as your company never addressed any updates to address any of the multiple issues associated with that game; the frame rate drops, glitching through objects, sound cutting out in conversations and many others. With the coming of 2009 as we all know Dragon Age Origins was released and despite my bad experiences with you I once again chose to purchase one of your products, a different development team sure but still the same company. I do understand that only three months have passed, but this seems to have been enough time to release an update, that to my knowledge, only addresses issues associated with achievements instead of wide array of bugs and glitches that directly affect gameplay. Now we roll around to the release of Mass Effect 2 and against all evidence to the contrary I had faith that you would have had enough practice with this to get everything together correctly and this would finally be a purchase from Bioware that I would not regret; before I continue I just want to make it clear that I do understand that not all issues within a game can be caught in testing. Now with that said once I began playing Mass Effect 2 many of the issues that have plagued Mass Effect and Dragon Age became immediately obvious, such as the glitching through barriers, sound issues, and issues with DLC, I do not know if this is on Bioware’s part of that of EA but it truly is a problem. With that said, and in the hopes of summing this up before I ramble further, we come to my biggest issue with this game, the text size. While games are certainly no where near perfect as a consumer I believe it is a companies duty, I know this is subject to personal opinion, to inform their buyers about any specifications that are required to be able to properly access the product in question. Yes I do know it is still playable but in a RPG when you cannot possibly read the text gameplay and enjoyment is greatly decreased. In short I am not as angry that the text problem will not be addressed but rather that you did this by design and failed to inform any potential buyers of this decision. So with all of this said I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors Bioware because just as Capcom did with this stunt in Dead Rising, and due the additional issues that I mentioned you have lost not only my business by any faith I associated with Bioware.
*As a note to to any readers who may stumble across this before it is locked, deleted, or whatever may befall it: I have tried changing both the settings on my TV, it is about three to five years old, and the xbox 360 itself to no avail and I am aware that HD televisions have become more widespread and their prices have significantly dropped. In time I would have gladly made the purchase as this is not the point that bothers me as I stated above, it is simply their failure to inform anyone of their decision that pushed me over the edge in addition to many other problems. Also, while this is still up do not expect any replies from me as I shall not return following the posting of this.

I have yet to hear about or talk to a person who says they were fine with the text size on their SDTV's. it's not a "small portion". it's the entire portion!
bioware, you really disappointed me today

Thanks for stating that we SDTV users are a 'small" portion that you shouldn't be concerned about.
Thanks for making me waste $60 on a game that I'm just plodding through and hoping that I make the right choices.

something people who don't think this is an issue should try.
take some cardboard and tape it to the bottom section of your tv screen so it covers all text. now play through the game.

As it stands now - if you have a crappy TV, you had to buy the game or stumble onto these forums to find out there's an issue.

While I can appreciate that some may find these issues bothersome, what it personally sounds like to me is people making mountains out of molehills. Yeah, there are some better user interface design features they could adjust and yeah, there are a few minor glitches in the game, but on the whole, ME2 is still a great game and can be enjoyed in spite of these minor flaws. People who let such small issues prevent them from enjoying a game that is widely considered the best game on the market are, I believe, themselves the cause of most of their problems. You can't necessarily choose how the world around you is, but you certainly can choose how you react to it.
tell us how to enjoy the game, when you can't
1) read the text to choose the right dialog to move the game forward.
2) read what your weapons cache says (If i had known that I only had 2 shots of my grenade launcher, I would have dumped that and chosen another weapon - etc etc etc). Its nice to run out of bullets thinking you had 60 shots when you really only had 40.
3) read the important information in your journal or codex?
4) read your "email" within game
5) read the cerberus network messages on the main menu?
I complained to EA support and put a tech person there under stress because I COULDN"T read the information that came up when I first set up the game on my Xbox 360 (where you had to sign in with yoru EA account. I couldn't read any of the text next to the fields) And nearly spend 2 hours on the phone and in their chat because I couldn't login to the Cerberus network to activate my DLC. 2 hours.
Why? Because i couldn't see the text that said "press this button to login to Cerberus" (or something to that effect). I couldn't even read the text in the options where it would log me into the network automatically, because the TEXT is unreadable unless I'm a foot from my screen. I dont know about you, but I never play a game sitting 1 foot from a tv set. Im at least 5 feet away.
That was 2 hours of wasted time. MY time and the tech support person's time, all due to a poor design decision to use smaller text.
Small text ISN"T a minor problem. ITS A MAJOR problem for ALL SDTV users.
And it will be a problem to EA support members if SDTV users keep on submitting support tickets and logging complaints with them on this VERY major issue.

No, they won't fix it. They don't have to fix it. They made their product, and despite all the other bugs and tweaks they have to fix, your complaint was a design choice and they're sticking by it. You'll be lucky if they have not already settled on the exact same set up for Mass Effect 3 and it's already too late to even change that.
They already stated their reasons for not fixing it. They said they would respond once they decided what they planned to do, and they did. There is to be no fix, no patch regarding the text. No amount of complaints is going to change it, and certainly the articles on Ars Techa and Kotaku had no effect. In fact, the comments on both articles spiraled into the same debates we've had here. Namely, all the get an HD-TV, Join this decade, etc and so on.

You might as well face the fact that all games, not just this one, are being made for HDTV. I know it sucks but that's just the way it is.Puppet Of Fate wrote...

Hopefully, I'll have the money for it before Mass Effect 3 comes out, or I might as well buy it for the PC, even if the controller feels way better on the XBox.
And I have a big TV, not HD, and yet, I can't read it. I did my playthrough telling myself : Well, I won't read the answer or think what I should answer, I'll go Paragon or Renegade.
This pretty much destroyed the immersion, but at least I could finish the story.

No one is going to fix this. They'll 'look in to it' for a couple of weeks/months then say there's nothing they can do.
^^^ Hate to say I told you so, since I also want the text bigger, but on page 4 of the original thread I called it:(. I'm shocked they didn't wait atleast 2 weeks before they said there's nothing they can do. Now they said there's nothing they can do about the text size, but what about a background color for the text wheel?

It may be an uphill battle, but I think one worth fighting. I have to do something to keep from getting bored and porn just isn't enough to keep my attention anymore.

They should have added at least a drop shadow to add contrast. Even on a large set bigger text is still unreadable because you can't see it when it blends in with the background.
This I'm sure makes a situation that is very bad for those with visual impairments. Poor form on Bioware's part to not at least attempt to rectify the problem for those with disabilities. I wonder if the ACLU will eventually get involved since they are basically telling those with disabilities to Eff off.
I just upgraded my monitor and the issue is not resolved. This is Bioware's problem, not the consumer's to resolve.
As an aside, I'm still looking at my CE box for a hardware requirement that says I need a 50+ inch, 240Hz, HDTV to play the game.

Actually changing the font size would be the easiest change they could make since text is parsed from a list. The text isn't an image being posted for each conversation tree.
Adding a background or shadow would take more depending on how they have the font rendered.
Either way it is a bull**** answer and pure laziness when it comes to making a fast patch for increasing text size and column width. At the most they would have to change a few of the listed line options if the display would be too long.

why dont you tell us exactly what is making you unable to fix it? that would really help alot.
