Sadly no character other than Oghren has any comment whatsoever after that fight...

I do wonder how much of the original girl's consciousness is left in a Broodmother. Emissaries are intelligent enough to speak after all.

But you said you wanted it to be straightened out, lol. Like I've said elsewhere. All my female grey wardens are gonna take a nice hot bath when 'their time has come' - and quietly slit their wrists.
My main would find that cowardly. She’s going into the deep roads with just her armor and weapons, and will be taking as many darkspawn as she can down before she dies in battle.
My second won't have that problem as she'll just use blood magic to continue living a normal life.

Even if it's cowardly, I see nothing wrong with using poison to take out as many as possible before my characters die.Maria Caliban wrote...

That really is probably the most disturbing thing in the game, and going to Orzammar bothers me because I know I'll have to face that. With every character I have to think of how she'd play it in camp afterwards.

They are geniuses.. first playthrough going through that passage as you hear each sentence of the chant.. Quality! It outdoes any other part of the game I think, including the ending.
Definitely, even having seen the video beforehand it still felt like a horrific, unpredictable discovery. My heart was racing so much. The absolute terror at realizing that's what she could become helped lead up to why my first character decided to sacrifice herself.

I know the evidence is somewhat sparse, but I always took Hespith's chant to mean that it takes more than just the taint to make a female a Broodmother. I don't think that female Wardens turn into Broodmothers if they don't die, but rather ghouls. In The Calling Genevieve and Utha both have their transformation "sped up" by the Architect and become something much more akin to ghouls, not Broodmothers. So the process to turn someone into a Broodmother isn't just spreading the taint.
I agree with this. It seems like there's something more to becoming a broodmother, which is why they're so rare. Hespith is so cryptic with what she says, but the process she recounts sounds completely deliberate and specific in nature.
Um, the Bioware devs are the sick minds that came up with Broodmothers. They can hardly go calling us sick! [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/pinched.png[/smilie]Thor Rand Al wrote...
Ya this topic became very disturbing, n creepy lmao... Makes me wonder what Bioware might be thinking if they read this topic n see where our sick minds went but how could we not sit here n assume especially after hearing that chant...

Considering the darkspawn are the offspring of the Broodmothers, it seems like it's something different for the children. Although, I'm not sure I want to find out what...

Any female Grey Warden who "survives" the taint can become one. Hespith was muttering about it because Branka created the Broodmother so she could use its children to test the Anvil of the Void. Codex entryMiSsSmOkEy20 wrote...

From the codex on broodmothers:
Each type of darkspawn is born of a different broodmother: Humans produce hurlocks, dwarves produce genlocks, elves give birth to shrieks, and from quinari are born the ogres.

and thrust several daggers into their own bodies( atleast 5) , blood loss + hypothermia = death
and according to the known lore, the darkspawn bodies heal, well they wont heal with the dagger still in there will it.

From what I gather, darkspawn reproduction is a two step process.
A female ghoul is selected to be fattened up ("...in her mouth they spew"). As you may know, women require a certain amount of body fat to be able to carry a child to term. Judging by the manner and degree to which a broodmother puts out (so to speak), I surmise that childbearing puts a huge drain on the system.
Once fattened, she is impregnated ("Eighth day, we hated as she is violated."). At least, that's what I gathered from the crazy ****'s incessant chanting.
The real question in my mind is what becomes of the fetus of a pregnant female who succumbs to -- and survives -- the taint? And can a female ghoul be impregnated by the races of men? (YUCK!) If so, what results from this union? (More importantly, do I even want to know?)

Actually, I've seen no evidence that Darkspawn mages are any less common or powerful than human or elven mages. In fact, proportionally, they may even have more mages.Demonic Spoon wrote...
Perhaps, but the Darkspawn aren't intelligent. The transformation is entirely biological; I can't see any other way to cause such a transformation. I guess magic would be possible, but darkspawn mages are rare and aren't nearly powerful enough to do something like that.
When it comes to power - the boss-level Darkspawn mages such as the Necromancer and the Conjurer seem powerful enough.
While the darkspawn may be bestial, assuming they're unintelligent, especially when it comes to their leaders, seems likely to result in a fatal underestimation.
Agreed. I think it's Morrigan simply being short-tempered with that - I'm pretty sure that if you had the chance to explain your position she wouldn't disapprove as much (or at all), but she refuses to listen.maxernst wrote...

Well...they may simply be larval Darkspawn. Which would make them something of an "only threatening in large numbers" thing, but maybe that sequence does involve them appearing in large numbers.Nonvita wrote...

Probably. Still, I wish we could've talked with the Broodmother in DAO before brutally murdering her. I bet she had some interesting insights!melkathi wrote...

@Korvayer, my understanding is that in order to become the mother part of the broodmother, yes she has to be impregnated. However, her body still changes before then. "Seventh day, she grew as in her mouth they spew." I don't think it's simply a ghoul who becomes a broodmother. I think it is the form of human, elf, dwarf, or qunari that changes to become the broodmother, bypassing any other change.
To be sure, broodmothers are impregnated by the taint, not darkspawn semen.

Darkspawn semen sounds pretty tainted to me.
