You can actually train someone to be decently effective with a pike in formation in matter of weeks if not days

Yeah. Hold it that way, and walk forward. End of training :)

I wouldn't be surprised if David Gaider came up with this:innocent:

Let's say typically a female warden is in her 20s when she does the Joining. From this point on, she may live a life as a human for another 30 years. This will place her at the age of 50 when the Calling begins. Even if she does get captured and turned into a broodmother, I don't think she will be able to reproduce any darkspawn due to her age. That's if the definition of a broodmother doesn't involve being pregnant.

I'm not sure how old you are, but menopause usually begins in one's 50s. Many 50-year-old women are still fertile.

Moreover, I’m not sure it matters. Women lose their fertility because they stop ovulating. The process of becoming a broodmother radically changes a woman’s reproductive organs, as no human/elven/dwarven woman could produce thousands of eggs at once.

Grey Wardens do know about Broodmothers.

The PC doesn't, because I suppose you never really had the time to ask Duncan or the more senior Grey Wardens (Alistair's still a junior) about where Darkspawn REALLY come from.

Because they all get killed. Regardless, it doesn't seem like any female GWs have any fear whatsoever of becoming a broodmother, since A. becoming a broodmother involves special treatment, B. most women will die before they actually become one due to the grosteque mutations, and C. No Grey Warden will be stupid enough to let darkspawn take them alive if they could help it.

A, B, C all true but I also still maintain the fact that being a female warden by the time your "Calling" comes around for you to go to Orzammar that you have no worries about the Broodmother problem, because of the fact your reproductive systems is no longer an issue because the taint has already eaten that away.

Not sure why my age is relavent, but I gathered that when when Susan explained it to me. Unless you are trying to assume that since I don't know the complete mechanics of the menstrual cycle then I must be pretty young, and thus made a stupid post. I now do know that the average woman's menopause is at the age of 51, and can range between 40 to 60. I also now know that this doesn't mean that menopause happens over night. It can take 4 years for reproductive cycle to stop completely. Thanks to this oxford journal and an article from home health-uk.

Perhaps paying attention in health class would have been wise, but I am a guy and was also lazy in high school. So please excuse my attempt at trying to help out. As I clearly have no clue what I am talking about, or any clue as to what exactly happens in a genetic mutation of the female's reproductive system in a video game.

Good to see that. I have a friend in RL who is 55 and currently pregnant. She's scared out of her wits about it. All her other kids are gown, and she dreads the though of her unborn child being in her (yes, it's a girl) twenties when she is approaching her 80's (fates willing).

No, abortion was never an issue with her, she had the freedom of choice and chose to carry the child to term. But yes, thinking that women can't reproduce beyond 50 is a narrow view. I'm glad you educated yourself. Kudos to you.

I agree with Sabriana. Kudos to you for looking up the real deal when you found that you didn't know something as well as you thought you did.

And none of us know exactly what happens in a genetic mutation of the female's reproductive system in this video game. We're all speculating here. 2 years of genetics in high school as my elective study, doesn't make me any kind of expert. And even if it did, we're not given enough information to make even educated guesses.

Do we know if female Grey Wardens can be turned into broodmothers? No, we don't. But it is a possibility, since there is no evidence to the contrary. And because it is a possibility, and our characters are likely to experience the calling while they are still fertile ...

Let's just say, I wouldn't (in the persona of my various female wardens) want to take the risk.

It's implied by Hespith's poem that the woman are actually repeatedly gang-raped, in all orifices, by the darkspawn as well.
Just in case anyone did'nt, y'know... get that.

Also you've got to eat a lot of flesh to grow, so maybe if you don't consume enough you don't fully transform.

I think hot bath, bottle of mosswine and a razor blade is the plan for me aswell.

Branka is just doing what she has to.. my first playthrough I went with Harrowmont and helped her (preserve Dwarf race at any cost, that was my Dwarf noble motto)

But she's bat-crap insane crazy and obsessed.

I'm sure that if she knew about what would happen when she was sane, before she went mental from her Deep Road expedition, she would never had considered it. Sacrificing dwarves to make golemns is one thing, but sacrificing dwarves to be turned into broodmothers is another, right?

There's a strong argument to be made that sacrificing a few people to fight the darkspawn would save vastly more people...potentially the entire races. Imagine if the dwarves were eradicated by the Darkspawn and thus, rather than only coming to the surface during a Blight, they were ravaging everything ALL THE TIME?

This is true, but personally I just couldn't side with Branka because of her obvious insanity and because of all the things she'd done.
An ending where Branka is killed but the anvil is preserved under someone else's guide may have been something I would have considered, if I could convince myself to look at the bigger picture. Then again, finally reaching the anvil after everything that occured, I can't see how you possibly think with a clear mind. All my Warden was thinking was blood.

My main would find that cowardly. She’s going into the deep roads with just her armor and weapons, and will be taking as many darkspawn as she can down before she dies in battle

You mean is dragged off, raped and spawns 10 times as many darkspawn as she killed?
Nah.
Pass the razor.

Can someone explain this to me? If women are suppose to undergo a mutation from being exposed to the taint, how do we have female Grey Wardens?

Because though they are infected with the taint, they aren't "violated" by the dark spawn.
