Wait, so is the Collector Rifle better than the Revenant?

That's one of the things that bugs me about this game - the lack of visible stats on weapons. Has anyone been able to compare the two? How do they match up?

There was a thread around here earlier which listed weapon stats. The collector weapon is one of the weakest ARs with the geth pulse rifle being the weakest. The Vindicator has the best DPS of all the ARs though.

wow, geth pulse is really the weakest? i love that sucker- not as much dmg or ammo capacity as the revanant but so damn accurate. It's the reason why my hardcore soldier went with the widow. use adrenaline rush in conjuction with it to insure those headshots infiltrator style.

That helped me immensely.

Edit:
Geth Pulse Rifle DPS calculation currently wrong, probably due to the variable ROF (Rate of Fire). With the data currently available, it's Base DPS would be 38, primarily due to its very low damage-per-shot stat (3.7)
M-29 Incisor DPS is currently impossible to calculate without the Refire Delay (pause between bursts)
M-490 Blackstorm has no data

I'd say take the LMG, first playthrough I went with the Widow and dropped it when I got the Viper.

Second time around I went for the Revenant and used it for the rest of the game.

It's a really difficult decision. The revenant isn't as accurate as the other rifles, but the recoil isn't bad, and it has high ammo, high rate of fire, and high damage. If you have the targeting VI, it's a great weapon. The Widow is amazing as well. I think it's something like 380 damage per shot without any upgrades to sniper rifle damage. They are very different weapons though. It pretty much boils down to whether or not you're satisfied with your current assault rifle enough to be willing to sacrifice the upgrade for an amazing sniper rifle.

GPR is a great weapon. It has the highest rate of fire (1000, compared to 900 on the vindicator, 800 on the avenger, and...700 on the revenant.) It's really accurate too, and has very little recoil. The vindicator and revenant are better (Which I think is bull**** considering how easy the vindicator is to get). Still a good gun, though. The vindicator has a .625 second pause between 3-round bursts. The GPR has no delay, you can empty a magazine without pausing.

For Soldiers, I prefer the Revenant. Rapid-fire weapons just seem to have more oomph during Adrenaline Rush than single-shots, though I also really like the Claymore. I'd like to see a Soldier run up to an enemy during a Heightened Adrenaline Rush and turn them into a fine red mist with the Claymore. In fact, I think I'll go see if youtube has any offerings in that regard.

But, yeah, Claymore or Revenant are my suggestions. The Revenant moreso.

I dont think the widow is great for soldiers.

you get 13 shots..... when shields/armor are down, its great as it will one shot most normal baddies. Its not worth it, if you are whittling down armor and shields/barriers with it (it will maybe get you through 2-3 guys before its spent. So you are either forced to rely on your team mates to take down armor/shields or do an annoying amount of weapon switching i.e. drain shields/armor with ar then finish with the SR.

The AR is the meat and potatos of a soldier. The SR is is situational for a soldier. I am pretty sure if you choose the SR as a soldier, you will not be happy about the choice. If its a NG+ with your soldier and have the LMG, by all means choose the SR, it is superior to the other SR's for damage dealing but its ammo is really limited, but like I said, once a target is exposed, it will one shot most anything that isnt a sort of mini-boss.

I've played as a soldier with both the Widow and the Revenant. I liked the Revenant more. The Widow's shots are really powerful, but it does feel kinda "slow" since you need to reload after each shot. I actually had more fun with the viper, despite it dealing less damage

Here is the weapons http://masseffect.wi...iki/M-8_Avenger

At the bottom you can click on the different ones. On the right of the screen it shows the stats. The Revenant is by far the best AR

Adrenaline Rush plus Revenant =deadly mofo

The widow is beast, the reload after one shot is only a problem if you suck at aiming.

Revenant with squad warp ammo... worked fantastic for my soldier.

But I have to say, this play through as a vanguard with the claymore shotgun/inferno ammo is just not fare for the poor bad guys... even on insanity, its a beast.

The Widow.

Nothing else is worth it. The Shotgun is fun, but the Eviscerator is just better, same with the Vidndicator for AR instead of Revenant.

Incisor sniper rifle is better for soilders since it has burst fire and a lot of ammo and you can use AdRush with it for extra damage compared with the 1 shot widow.

Eh, a pointblank shot with the Eviscerator will only instantly kill high-level enemies on Insanity with headshots. The Claymore just needs to aim for center mass and blammo.

The Widow is a waste of thermal clips if you're firing at anything short of Harbinger or a scion, in my opinion.

The Revenant, on the other hand, is great against all enemies big and small, and at nearly any range.

you are soldier, well go for the unique weapon for soldiers in the game, revenant. the widow is cool to kill creatures with 1 shot, but i enjoyed more the revenant with the viper sniper rifle(faster shot than widow and far more ammo capacity and per clip)

I've finished Insanity as a Soldier primarily using the Geth Pulse Rifle and the Widow, with the Eviscerator for up close an personal business.  I had Heavy Warp Ammo as my bonus power, so that possibly explains my success with those choices.

The Widow was great for head-shotting the drones at distance to prevent more than one Harbinger from spawning for any one pack.  Quickly take out all Drones, and leaving only Harbinger which the squad mates would usually drop before I'd changed out from the Widow.  Head shotting Scions took them down in 3 or 4 shots, depending on squad assistance.  Great for Praetorians and the Reaper too.

For armor, I had the +10% headshot visor, the off-hand ammo pack, and the +10% heavy ammo thing, and all those added up to some good damage,

The GPR was just so fast and accurate, and with Heavy Warp Ammo and Hardened Adrenaline Rush, I could pop out, empty an entire clip into the head of a far away target due to its accuracy, and drop them before the rush finished, and all without taking much damage due to the 50% damage reduction.

For Husks, concussive shot insta-kills them when their armor is down, and so I had Garrus and Grunt and myself just taking out their armor and then dropping them en-masse with Concussive Blast when they got close as a group, and the Eviscerator to blast any left over.

Only a few battles gave me grief until I figured out the correct tactical/weapon/power combination to use.

Oh, and for multiple YMIR mechs the answer is always a single M920 Cain shot (one-shot for Hardcore and lower), and for Insanity, a single Widow Shot to the head of each to destroy any remaining armor, and a clip from GPR into each to drop them.  They don't even have time to get close.  With that strategy, I never even fully lost shields.

The main point with the Widow, is that with only marginally careful ammo management, it's a very powerful weapon.  Don't be afraid to use the pistol either (Carniflex 6 ??) which can be incredibly powerful when fully upgraded and head-shotting with Warp Ammo and Rush, meaning I could drop enemies with it almost as quickly as with an AR or the Widow.

Revenant. Used the Widow my first run but the Revenant seems to work best, it is good against all targets, even damn husks. Get away from me!!! I have a gun, a Revenant gun!

The Widow's like having a second heavy weapon. Both that and the Hand Cannon are really valuable weapons in my mind. I like to swap around a lot, and it doesn't bother me if a mission ends with 2 clips left in the pistol and 3 shots left in the Widow. It's not like you get some kind of conservation bonus for hoarding ammo. Plus I really, really love the Vindicator.

The Revenant is fun to play with, but as far as best choice goes, I'd say Widow.

Widow
Damage 368.3
Clip Size 1
Spare Ammo 12
Total damage possible: 4788

Revenant
Damage 21.3
Clip Size 80
Spare Ammo 480
Total damage possible 11928

11928 > 4788 Revenant wins hands down.

That's not counting the head-shot capability of the Widow though.  What's the head-shot damage of the Widow, including with the +10% head-damage visor equipped?

It also discounts the fact that the Revenant only hits maybe 40% of the time, as opposed to >95% with the Widow, and it's not like you don't still have a different Assault Rifle to use when you pick the Widow, and the comparable Assault Rifles are almost as good as the Revenant, perhaps even better when you consider accuracy as well.

I've chosen the Revenant before, and it was more just a wild flailing spray of bullets that missed more often than it hit, unless the enemies were up close which is really where you don't want them to be when playing on Insanity.  That's just my personal play-style though.  I prefer to pick off enemies at a distance with precision heavy fire power, and the GPR, Hand Cannon, and Widow all fit that bill.

as soldier on my 2nd run-through i picked widow again - mainly because the other snipers (except the dlc one) suck, even with adrenaline rush (which is nowhere near as good as the infiltrator's sniper ability, putting that one to rest as well. the revenant is too inaccurate, especially when every shot counts on insanity difficulty level. plus the other ARs are good, especially the battle rifle, so are more able to substitute (and shotguns for close range on husks or harbinger if he gets really close).

my biggest difficulty in combat is not the weapons but the really annoying tendency for shepard to just stand up randomly in firefights, changin weapons or using power - very frustrating and very annoying.

Ok, I'm curious.  I've not played an infiltrator in ME2 (yet).

For a Soldier, Hardened Rush gives you a +100% damage bonus, 50% slow-down and 5 secs to line up a shot, with a 3 second recharge time.  With Commando, you also get +15% weapon damage.  Heightened Rush gives you a +140% damage bonus, a 70% slowdown, and 5 secs.

I just checked the ME2 Infiltrator Operative powers, and Assassin seems to be the best evolution, with +15% weapon damage, a 60% slow-down, and 2.25secs to line up a shot.

Is there something that's not documented to make me believe that a further +140% damage bonus, 5 secs of slowdown at 70%, is not better than 0% damage bonus, and 2.25 secs of slowdown at 60%?

Not criticising.  Am honestly curious if the Infiltrator's aren't documented fully.

One advantage of the sniper cooldown on infiltrator is that it's passive. So if you have a sniper rifle equipped and you cast another power, you actually get the slowdown effect while you cast it. It took me a bit to get used to, but I found it pretty valuable in certain nasty fights, because I could cast a power and be back in cover without getting hit.

Assassination cloak is pretty nice, too. Kind of renders the time dilation effect moot, because you have 6 seconds to shoot where you won't take any fire at all, although it's only around half the damage bonus of Hightened Rush, 75%.

I didn't actually do much sniping on my Infiltrator, though. I wanted to try something different and instead of playing as an assassin, I focused on hacking and dominating targets and letting groups kill each other, with the occasional incendiary blast tossed in. It was pretty fun.
