Why'd they remove the "show helmet" option?

Bioware seemed to recognize this in the original ME, where there was a simple helmet toggle, which made your headgear invisible to make your facial expressions easier to see even when you're in combat gear.
It was a matter of gameplay over realism, and one that it's easy to see the appeal of.
This time around... nothing. There's several helmet options, but only two or three provide any face visibility, the rest completely cover your hand-crafted noggin. This time, if you want your face visible, you have to sacrifice in-game bonuses to do so.
To take it a step further, all of the DLC armors have been "all in one piece", and you can't wear any of them AND see your face. In a game that frequently focuses the camera on your character, show emotions during scenes, and so on... that's a HUGE dis-incentive to actually use any of those armor sets. You miss out on the drama in the game because you're just staring at a big helmet!
Why the change? I don't know of anyone ever complaining about an optional toggle in the original game, why get rid of it?

Not being able to remove the helmet for those and the overall stats being pretty lame kinda ruin them..never used em for more then a few minutes

Outside of the DLC armors, it's not much of a change from the first game. Toggling the helmet off in the first kept it off for the entire game, except for environments where you needed it. It operates the same way in the second game.
Nope. If you wear one of the helmet options for the stats, it stays on for the whole game and in cutscenes no matter what. No matter what your headgear option, you get the full mask/helmet for when you need it.

I definitely would've used the bonus armors if we could toggle the helmets on and off.

This is especially disappointing because I only did the steam pre-order for the armor stats. Otherwise I woudl have just run to the store and got a physical copy on launch day.

You can pretty much see his face anyway. How much protection does that really provide?
I wanted to use that on my Sentinel, to make him REALLY look like Iron Man.

Well... it's different in the sense that you can't toggle the helmet? If you're wearing any of the helmets, they're stuck on your head for every scene where you're not in casual clothes (ie - almost every moment in the game). If you opt NOT to wear a helmet, you miss out on the stat bonuses they can provide. The only way to see your face most of the time is to forgo the bonus.
It -is- different in the first game, since you could toggle your helmet in that one with no impact on the efficacy of your character.

Because helmets provide stats now.
However it would be reasonable to create a button, which toggles the current helmet on/off with the stats too.
It's not that big deal anyways. I just... don't use helmets now.

no it doesnt, you could go to the equipment screen at any point in the game and toggle on/off. i.e. if you are running around the citadel, you could toggle it off/on at will just by going to the equipment screen. The only time you absolutely couldnt change it was when you are in a non breathable environment.
