Conceal.

Of course I would check Tali out if she were revealed, but I would lose some small amount of respect for BioWare. It would be hard not to pass it off as simple fan service.

Maybe we'll see a shot of a helmetless Quarian setting foot on its homeworld, but I doubt it'll be Tali, who may or may not be dead or may or may not be someone the player cares about (there are people with no souls.)

Id have to disagree with the like Turians assessment, basing it on DNA wont help us because its a game and the devs go with what looks good rather than what makes sence.

Plus her eyes and nose are very very close to a humans.

He meant it in a sense that the Quarians and Turians are similar as in they breathe oxygen.

Yes, i did. And that they share a certain genetic structure, with Quarians being able to eat refined Turian cuisine and such.

On an unrelated note, i really like how the game tells us that the Human genetic diversity is actually a very rare trait.
At first it felt like a cheap excuse that the team could not be assed to create different subspecies of every alien race (heck, they didn't even create females for most), but it's at least a different approach on a very common problem in SciFi

Quarians are probably butt ugly. I'm scared to see them.

BioWare has a habit of making even the ugliest things look somewhat good. Well not always (*cough* Broodmother *cough*) but at least most of the things that are one way or another linked to romance or attractiveness. Which Tali now officially is...

Personally I think this is probably one of the better fan arts I have seen regarding Tali or Quarians: http://img25.imagesh...aliconcept3.jpg

That... or they could be incredibly ugly after all. I can easily imagine they don't know much of hygiene at least... being stuck in that suit for... forever.

But I'm going to bet that they at least have grey/purple skin.

Night elfish... but pretty good anyway. I like it.

I doubt Tali is hideous, in any case. If she thought she was ugly, she wouldn't be half so keen to reveal her face to Shepard. :P

Quarians could have different definitions of beauty than humans.

That was one of the things that actually annoyed me to be honest.  If you look at life on earth humanity doesn't have a great deal of genetic diversity compared to any other species, in fact we have very little biodiversity in our species since a single troop of monkeys apparently has greater diversity than the entire human race, hence why rats are able to breed with siblings with very little issue whereas if a human did that they would spawn some sort of hellfreak.

It's theorised that some disaster nearly wiped us out, or some other population bottleneck, and so we are all pretty much one family compared to other species, and that the only reason why we survive is because we are able to work out that there are bad things that happen when you sleep with your close relatives and to make taboos against it.

Quarian's are closer to Turians in terms of genes. So be ready for scales/carapace/tentacle-head

Reveal. I doubt they could make her ugly enough that she wouldn't still be my preference.

Salarians have the same type of DNA as humans (at least I'm pretty sure), and they look pretty different. And the type of DNA doesn't really determine that. For example, earth lizards have the same type as humans, they just evolved diferently.

Conceal. Even if they would reveal her face I wouldn´t have a problem with it but Tali is just fine the way she is and that includes the helmet imo.

To put it bluntly, they are similar to Turians in the way that their genes are built of the same 'chemicals'. It doesn't mean the two races look the same, they evolved separately, in different environment. For more information please read the in-game Codex or Ascension novel by Drew Karpyshyn.

According to your logic, the Human and Krogan races should look the same. Do they?

Edit: Lyriq was faster.

You sir , are correct.

I still think you guys are looking at this the wrong way, when the concept artist or character artist sits down , he dosnt think much about DNA ^^
Its more important for something to look good have personality etc rather than getting the science right, it just wouldnt be much fun other wise.

Then some bloke has to try and fit the codex entrys so they make sence with what the art team came up with ^^

In the third game there should definatly be a choice.
So those who don't want to know what Tali looks like never have to.
I mean, before I wanted reveal, and then thoughht conceal may have been a good idea, but the romance with Tali was kind of painful when you, the player couldn't see what your character should.
Seriously bioware, give us the option. :)

*Edit* Or maybe we could get a tease, like seeing a body of a quarian, Tali naked from behind, maybe a male quarian's face. Something to give our imagination some help, but not to do it for us.
And I really hope she doesn't look like a night elf, let alone have hair, I'm quite happy to leave elves in fantasy and aliens in sci fi.

Reveal, bot only as a dialog option and if Tali won't mind doing this (nonsense, if she had sexual relation with Shepard in ME2).

True, but designing a character with features outside of human experience (glowing eyes, for example) will hurt the resonance and connection the human player feels to the character. And things are typically outside of human experience when they don't make real world sense and therefore don't exist. Artistic expression is top order, but functional biology is still a consideration. It has to be.

And, assuming they did, why would Tali be unaware of this?

Let me rephrase: If she thought Shepard would find her ugly, she wouldn't be so keen to reveal her face. :P

Which is moot, anyway, since he doesn't have a negative reaction to her appearance at all.

Reveal!

If Tali were the protagonist, see the MasterChief for example, there would be no need to reveal her face. 'I AM Tali, therefore I know exactly what her/my face looks like,' I would be content.

But this isn't the case, If I'm Shepherd, then Tali can get her own face!

On the other hand, choices like this are the entire point to the Mass Effect trilogy, surely Bioware could incorporate a situation in which you could choose to see, or not, Tali's face to suit yourself? It needn't be something as direct as 'Do you want to see Tali's face now Y/N!?' It could be any social situation in which it is clear BEFORE hand that Tali's mask is about to come off so that anyone who doesn't want to see her face doesn't receive a nasty surprise. They can opt to have the encounter go another way (preferably without either option altering your relationship with her).

Oh I agree one cant create a character without thinking about makeing sence to the human audience^^ (never know maybe some aliens picked it up too), but I think DNA is a bit too far :P

For example the glowing eyes make no sence, eyes (in humans anywayz) capture light , if they were emiting it how the hell wouldnt they blind themselves ? :S  I think the fact they have glowing eyes was that if not the animators would have no way of making them look at things and express emotions.
