Has anyone ever used it to change a weapon other than a heavy weapon on Shepard?
Seems to be kinda pointless to me that you have a big menu that pops up every mission that offers you to change the weapons on all the characters when there's only 2 weapons per gun type...1 always being better than the other, and the better one always equipped as default O.o Who would change someones weapon to a crappier one?
Weapon Loadout? Hmmm.

I have.
I prefer the Vindicator to the Collector Assault Rifle for example, the latter is default. I change around Party member equipment the same way. Then obviously the Heavy Weaponry... And also when I found the Geth Pulse Rifle.
That and I actually sometimes give my Party members 'crappier' weapons of the same type so that they do more damage against certain defenses. Like say.. give them the burst SMG.

I've wondered about this too. They only times I've had to change a weapon is in the cases of Grunt and Legion. Apparently their unique weapons don't get automatically equipped for some reason. The screen is completely pointless once you've changed that, though.
Acutally, it's pointless anyway, since you can change their loadout in the Armory. You're even told about this in the beginning of the game.

I just leave them all on default and havent had a problem yet, even on insanity.
The only times I ever have problems in this game really, is when squadmate A.I. is retarded and they die for absolutely stupid reasons. Really sucks when your only overloader dies on insanity simply because they felt the urge to go for a jog across the battlefield. Miranda especially, that **** is ****ing DUMB.
But I noticed most of the "2nd" weapons you get specifically say on the description "This weapon is an upgrade to the [previous weapon]"

Agreed... the weapon selection menu is useless at best, imo because no description of why one weapon is better than the other is given. No stats bonus or damage type = suck.

One weapon isn't necessarily better or worse than another. They each are better at different things. Just the assault rifles show this. The avenger is full auto and has higher shot capacity and extra shot capacity but it does less damage than the vindicator battle rifle.
One of the only true "better" weapons would be the Widow Sniper over the Mantis Sniper. They function the same way but the Widow does more damage and carries a few more shots.

I do use the machine atleast once to remove the Collector rifle, it screws up the icon. Damn annoying bug.
