Probably is a bug, the problem is that I don't yet understand if it pertains to the character sheet not displaying values correctly or it is actually in the real damage calculation algorithim.
I made a lot of testing and I discovered some strange behaviour indeed. For PRIMA guide dexterity should give +1 attack bonus for ranged weapons and it should be the only attribute to calculate damage for them. However the in-game descriptions states that strength adds to the damage of bows. However both are wrong judging on the character sheet and morover the calculations seems to not make much sense indeed.
I made testings with a bow equiped with a base damage score of 14 and an attack bonus of 69. Also did same testing with a melee weapon (longsword) with base damage of 15 and same attack bonus to see the difference. At this point there's already somethng that doesn't work since the attack bonus of melee and ranged is the same, while the former should be clearly inferior since I have much more dexterity than strength! However saved before level-up and put various attributes in to test. The class is Warrior.
Some examples:
- RANGED: 1 point of dexterity and 2 of constitution (since this attribute doesn't have nothing to do with damage/attack). Damage goes to 14.3 (only 0.3 more, notice). Attack bonus remains the same while it should clearly increase(!).
- MELEE: 1 point strength and 2 of constitution, same as before but strength instead of dexterity to see the difference on the character sheet. Now I have little surprise. With melee it all works perfectly as it should! Damage goes to 15.5 and attack bonus increase to 69.5. WTF?
- RANGED: 3 points in dexterity. Damage goes up to 15, attack bonus to 70. Damage goes to 15 (it should be 14.9 but well... it can be that it goes to the first integer) but, LOL, attack bonus increase of only 1 point It should increase of 3. Maybe there's a cap I thougt... Well, let's see.
- MELEE: 3 points in strength. Damage goes up to 16.5 and attack increase to 70.5. All works correctly as you see, differently from ranged, and differently from ranged there is not cap. It increased corectly by 1.5 points in attack bonus while for ranged it couldn't go past 1 so actually there's NO CAP. Hmm..
- RANGED: 2 points in dexterity, 1 constitution. Here the weirdness really begins. Damage goes up to 15!!!! (the same as with 3 points, WTF is happening?). Same with attack bonus, 70. Something really wrong is happening in ranged calculations. If the damage bonus per point of dexterity is 0.3 (as in the first example) the damage should now be 14.6 and not 15 as in the second example where I put 3 points instead of 2. OMG, I begin to don't undestand anything at all at this point, but the weirdness still continues, stay tuned.
- MELEE: 2 points strength, 1 constitution. As always here with melee all works perfectly as it should. Damage goes to 16 while attack bonus goes to 71. You see a trend here?
- RANGED: 1 point strenght, 2 constitution. Now this is to test if PRIMA or in-game is correct on damage bonus. Both are wrong judging from the character sheet. The damage goes up to 14.3 and adding more points cause the same troubles as with dexterity with examples 2 and 3 (LOL). However attack bonus goes up to 70 as with dexterity and this is clearly completely wrong by descritpion. Really I don't get what's happening.
- MELEE: 1 point dexterity, 2 constitution. Here as always everything is correct. Dexterity doesn't add damage (contrary to what strength seems to do for ranged for attack bonus) but it adds to attack bonus.
FINAL POINT:
So, as you see, something is clearly wrong on how ranged combat calculations is displayed or maybe actually played. I would really like to know by some dev if it is a bug only of the character sheet (minor, in fact) or it is actually a bug in the ranged damage/attack calculation bonus. Also a definitive word on how dex/str works for ranged woule be useful since PRIMA and in-game have differents opinions.
Something is really wrong about ranged attacks...

any news back on this yet? It's ridiculous, because I would like to build my archer differently. What I recently had done was apply the bare minimun dex attr. and then the rest into cunning, then I would make sure to get song of valor(or courage, i cant remember) to get the damage and attack bonus. I would rather, the whole system worked as it's supposed to so I don't have to rely on sustainables to have a decent attack rating. Cheers!

Nothing's wrong. Check those guides that are all over the place. You're just trolling which I knew all along.
So the game is bugged now? Looks like you've disproved yourself. You just don't understand the game's system.
LOL
