Why would you hate it? I don't see how it breaks the immersion at all, and it's much better than walking all the way back to the entrance.

It would be better if it was sent to your private terminal instead of the pointless messages which are from characters in mass effect 1 asking to meet up wih you again, when you cant! make the private terminal good for something BioWare, please!

At least the cue is good.
Maybe they should have at least make the background change and reflect the area you just beat.

I don't mind it - I like having a summary. It certainly gives more extensive info than you got at the end of most missions in ME1. Yes, it's a sudden stop and maybe people don't like that. I'm just not really bothered by such things. I do think (on relevant missions) that if you read the sections that tell you about the impact of your actions, etc. it gives a little more flavor than just a bland "Complete" in the Journal a la ME1 (which, of course, is still present in ME2 - the mission summary adds to that though).

I think it's a good summary but maybe they should have it on the mail system or something. I never did mind the elevators and extra leg work of ME1, I wasn't in that much of a hurry to get to the end of the game I guess. If I had my choice I would click on an option to get rid of it entirely to be honest.
There are some other "helpful" cues as well that tell you when a mission is over and are a bit annoying...for instance at the end of the Tali quest. I wanted to relax and talk with some people after the mission and a help bar told me to hit a button and go back to the normandy. Not my favorite part of the game.

I HATE IT and i hate the fact that they removed the free roaming as well - they didnt have to insult the RPG fans to capitulate to the shooters; they minimized the inventory and levelling, which i also dislike, but that i can accept to make the shooters happy - and improved the combat - isn't that enough? There is no compromise here, it feels like they were selling out to make the complainers happy, and not at all listening to the fans who loved ME1 the way it was

I think the mission complete screen is a neat addition, since it kinda shows the perspective of TIM on what you are doing, BUT there is a side mission where this screen really made the choice you have to make at the end of that mission look ridiculous.

I'll add my voice to the HATE IT crowd. Overall I am really enjoying ME2 but that screen along with some forced returns to Normandy sections really do bug me. I get having the option, but I liked the feeling from the first game to board/deboard the normandy seemed a lot more natural. Wierd that now when I board the normandy I automatically leave dock and head back to orbit.
Like I said great game, but that is definatley one of the game mechanics that I find downright loathesome. (Not to get nasty, but it reminds me a little of a newer version of a microsoft product. They will fix and shine up some rough edges, add cool new features, and then inexplicabley "fix" something that wasn't broke.)

You can still go around and talk to people. That option just gives you a chance to "finish" the mission when you choose to.
I enjoyed the Mission Summary screen. It was somewhat jarring the first time, but I got used to it. Like others have mentioned, it's nice to get some insight regarding the Illusive Man's thoughts. Here, you can see what he actually knew about and what he did NOT know about. He really has no reason to lie to himself, so you can take his footnotes at face value.

Hate it, this is supposed to an rpg first, not a shooter. It is indeed very immersion breaking. You finish a level and then BAM Illusive Man on teh screen. I don't expect it will return in ME3. Bioware listened to the complaints about ME1, fixed them, and made a stellar (though a bit too shooty for my tastes) game. I have every confidence that they will do so again for Shep's final outing.

i kinda like it actually, its nice to see a summery of everything you just accomplished in a mission. especially if you stopped playing half way through a mission, then resumed.

if they really wanted to let us know what the Illusive Man thought of our actions, they should have kept the same format as in ME1, and had him send a message through to the comm room - that way we could still run around on the planet until we were good and darn ready, and THEN have a chat with him IF we chose to.... isn't that what the point of all the other choices is? To have Shepard decide when he/she is gonna be cooperative or a downright jerk?

It always leads me to wondering why I know what the Illusive Man is thinking.

That wouldn't work the same way since it's unlikely that the Illusive Man would reveal his private thoughts to Shepard, and a snooping Miranda, via e-mail. Besides, if he sent those comments directly to Shepard, it would be more difficult for some people to take it at face value than it would be by just reading thoughts that Shepard, or anyone else, would never actually get full access to.

I dont mind the idea but hate it popping up and taking me out the game.
I wouldnt mind if it was a pop up window (like when you collect an item) and then i could read it if i like under a seperate codex section?!

I thought it was pretty interesting as it gives a summary of everything in the level. One thing I hate is that after a mission complete the normandy just undocks. The decontamination was better than this.

I dislike it very much. It does break the immersion for me as does teleporting back to normandy. However, I do like the idea that we get to know what The Illusive Man thinks, but they should have done it antoher way, like perhaps a cutscene with TIM talking to Miranda about the mission, or use the "email".
I've played some shooters too and the last game that I played which had these mission over screens was Doom 2. So, i really don't understand where they got the idea.

I dont get this whole "shooter crowd", our video games so polarized where you guys live that if you like rpgs you can only play those without fear or being in that crowd? Also is there some rule an rpg has to have a certain element to it, if its changed its always the "shooter crowd"? Mass effect 1 had terrible combat, i looked at combat from that game as something taking up my time till i could talk to people, now its actually fun. I do agree some things were too streamlined but lets not talk like shooters or for mentally retarded people

How do you think genres work, exactly? It's not a 'fear of being in that crowd', it's that they wanted something different.

I absolutely hate it... it's awful, definitely IMO one of the worst design decisions Bioware made in this dramatically changed (an IMO not for the better) sequel.

I kinda don't like the end mission screen either. But hey, its just like Doom, Quake, Half Life, Halo, Etc. Etc. which I regretfully think they were trying to shoot for. A true FPS game with a few RPG elements. I think that is what the 360 owners were clamoring about with ME1 any way. But hey the story is cool and it is still a good game, just something the same.
