Here's hoping Ash and Kaidan get more personalized roles in ME3! I'm sure the broad strokes will be similar, but the devs could at least write them different lines...

Would be a slap in the face (another one) if the ME2 romances had the natural continuation from where they left off at the end of the second game, and ME1 LIs were forced to "restart" theirs', just because the noobs need to be catered to again.

So Bioware, just make the noobs a couple of new LIs, please? Don't halfass Ash and Kaidan again.

This x100.

And please Bioware, if you are making Ash/Kaidan romancible for the ME2 newcomers in ME3, don't use the exact same romance dialogue (albeit tweaked slightly to include ME1 references) for those newly romancing Ash/Kaidan that is used for those continuing the ME1 romance.

I don't want the 'payoff' for remaining faithful in ME2 to be a carbon copy romance that people who don't even know who Ash/Kaidan are get.

I'm actually an old time Ash fan from ever since my first playthrough, I just liked both her and the blue girl equally well, up to until poor Liara was destroyed as a character in the comic and (especially) in ME2.

We ME1 LI fans share the same plight, so it's only natural for us to get along. I hope.

I've noticed some speculation on these boards that the ME2 and ME3 noobs might be given a chance to start the romance with Ash/Kaidan/Liara in ME3. While that would rise their status considerably, and guarantee a squad spot IMHO, it would probably unfortunately force us on the same already travelled path of starting and concluding the romance we already went through in ME1. By maintaining that forced tension between Shep and the ME1 LI.

Agreed - though they purposefully left out Ash and Kaidan cus the mission was a suicide one, so they didn't wanna risk them dying - so we can guess they'll be returning for ME3.

I thought I'd sneak in from the Kaidan support thread to show support for Ashley. We gotta stick together!

I come bearing a peace gift. :) I hope you guys like it... :) She was kinda hard to doodle.

That pretty nice, thanks and good job. Posted Image

Ash and Kaidan fans unite!

Yes, let us build a twin fortress in the gutter, with many levels, a pool, and half of the walls covered in Ashley posters, the other half in Kaidan. And then we can fend off the evil doers from the ME2 LI's. And then we'll eventually get into stupid fights and kill each other off, but until then, it will be glorous!

Yeah I agree with this. I understood why Bioware basically hit the reset button on Shepard in ME2, but there is no excuse to have the story to be accessible to new players in the third game of a trilogy. If you didn't play the first two, then too bad so sad, you aren't going to understand what is going on. Fans since the original game should be rewarded for being there since the beginning with their choices and LI's and if they do reset the romance players had with Ashley from the first game by doing something stupid such as "You worked for Cerberus for a while...I will join you and I know you blew up the base against their orders, but that doesn't mean I trust you like I used to" I will just shake my head in disappointment

It's weird - it's almost as though you can't like multiple LI's and if you do, then clearly you aren't a fan of any of them.

And it's funny, because you'd think that the only fans who might not like the other's fans are the Ash/Kaidan fans - since depending on your choices you can only have one survive. So invariably only one is alive in your game world, thus cutting off any sort of character development for the others.

But even faced with that choice, there's no animosity between the Ash/Kaidan fans - and in fact we seem to get along the best out of the ME LI fans. Perhaps that's because we each respect the other character. I don't choose to sacrifice Kaidan because I don't like Kaidan, I choose to sacrifice him because he's not Ashley. And I guess the reverse is true for the Kaidan fans.

To be honest - there would be a few characters I'd sacrifice above Kaidan if I had the choice - he was a cool guy, and a good friend to my male shep.

In a way, I think there's some sense of unity because both sides are in the same place, and from a narrative standpoint, their fates are going to be similar. After all, if fans of one were to wish ill upon fans of another, they ultimately wish ill upon themselves. We're all in the same boat, in a sense. No matter what, one will be dead and one will survive; except for Liara, all other characters have a chance of being dead for the final round, but either Kaidan or Ash will be there.

And yes, I've very much gotten the feeling that most Kaidan fans are also to a degree Ash fans and vice versa; the immediate preferred preference might differ, but I think both sides generally liked both characters, and possibly for similar reasons. I mean personally I liked Ash; I don't know her half as well as I'd want to (for obvious reasons..) but I liked her, and I actually find it interesting to compare this thread to the Kaidan one and see how much of the overall reasoning lines up for both characters.

I agree with this SO much! It's one of my biggest fears for ME3. I'd be sort of surprised if it happened, but it would be one of the very worst things possible for the ME1 LI lovers, I think. Hopefully what the devs have said about staying faithful paying off in ME3 doesn't mean "because you get a handful more lines than players new to the romance".
ETA: They shouldn't be playing the third game in a trilogy without having played the first two anyway! :P

I loved the interaction between them, with Ash Kaidan and Shepard you got a real sense of friendship between them that you did'nt and dont get with any other caracter. Gotta love there banter on the citadel Ash on about Shep would have to get her dinner before he gets her in a tin foil mini skirt and thigh high boots, and Kaidan showing his interest in femShep and getting all embarrassed lol.

Agreed. If they've only JUST 'tuned in' to the show, as it were, should they really be catered too so much?

Agreed, ME3 should be a treat for people that followed the series from Mass effect 1, 2 and 3. I can understand why Bioware would make it easy for new players but they can just make a friendship for Ash if you didnt romance her in ME1 so new players (and old who didnt romance her) can speak to her still while ME1 players who romanced her are rewarded with there romance carrying on. (Same applying for Kaidan obveously lol)

Just completed my first playthrough, remaining faithfull to Ash... which was surprisingly easy in spite of all the interesting new LI's showcased in ME2. Holding a torch for Ash just made sense for my version of Shep.

I've enjoyed the story, and my ultra-paragon Shep got everyone loyal and back safely. So I hope Bioware will bring them all back for ME3!

Not much, but some.  :)  Wish she did more!  The only other pic I can find containing Ash is here:
http://aimo.devianta...Effect-73253457

By the way, I really agree with everyone who has commented on the great friendship between Ashley and Kaidan.  They show much more of a "team spirit" towards each other than the rest of the squad.  I also agree that this is a part of what creates the camaraderie between their fans!

Yeah, definitely, and how Kaidan calls her Ashley "Ash" and how Ash calls Kaidan "LT" - there's very much a sense of camaraderie going on that you don't really get much of between the other characters. Furthering that, I definitely got the sense that Ash and Kaidan very much just run different sides of similar roles - they both stick up for you.

No matter if you have a male or female Shepard, Kaidan will tell you to leave yourself an out because he's seen what painting yourself into a corner will do and he doesn't want that to happen to you; same way, Ash will gun down Wrex to save your hind end if she has to, regardless of whether you ask her to or not. They both look out for you, no strings attached.

Yeah. I always keep them together in ME1, at least to see that brief cutscene when they comment on the vastness and majesty of the Citadel, and the one secretly attracted to Shep kinda sticks his/her foot in his/her mouth, but in a cute way.

Dammit, I want to see Ash in that tinfoil mini skirt and the thigh high boots! Posted Image Make it happen Bioware! You already gave us the "take Kelly to dinner", and had Gianna remember her offer of beer. So now it's time for Ash to honor her "promise"! Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

just echoing whats been said earlier, about "cookie-cutter" roles for Ash and Kaidan.

the fact is, a little of that is unavoidable in ME3, but thats OK. in fact, it happens with EVERY character in ME at one time or another.

the big thing for me is whether or not Ash and Kaidan will get different dialogue options and perform subtly different actions over the course of the game. anything but a repeat of Horizon. if Ash and Kaidan's dialogue in ME3 just consists of them spouting synonyms at me, then I'll be pretty ticked. they're different characters, and should be treated as such, even if their overall roles are going to be the same.

I'd rather them have slightly overlapping roles, than no role at all.

At this point, I think the only squad guarenteed to make a return is liara and ash/kaidan.
