It's weird - it's almost as though you can't like multiple LI's and if you do, then clearly you aren't a fan of any of them.
And it's funny, because you'd think that the only fans who might not like the other's fans are the Ash/Kaidan fans - since depending on your choices you can only have one survive. So invariably only one is alive in your game world, thus cutting off any sort of character development for the others.
But even faced with that choice, there's no animosity between the Ash/Kaidan fans - and in fact we seem to get along the best out of the ME LI fans. Perhaps that's because we each respect the other character. I don't choose to sacrifice Kaidan because I don't like Kaidan, I choose to sacrifice him because he's not Ashley. And I guess the reverse is true for the Kaidan fans.
To be honest - there would be a few characters I'd sacrifice above Kaidan if I had the choice - he was a cool guy, and a good friend to my male shep.
In a way, I think there's some sense of unity because both sides are in the same place, and from a narrative standpoint, their fates are going to be similar. After all, if fans of one were to wish ill upon fans of another, they ultimately wish ill upon themselves. We're all in the same boat, in a sense. No matter what, one will be dead and one will survive; except for Liara, all other characters have a chance of being dead for the final round, but either Kaidan or Ash will be there.
And yes, I've very much gotten the feeling that most Kaidan fans are also to a degree Ash fans and vice versa; the immediate preferred preference might differ, but I think both sides generally liked both characters, and possibly for similar reasons. I mean personally I liked Ash; I don't know her half as well as I'd want to (for obvious reasons..) but I liked her, and I actually find it interesting to compare this thread to the Kaidan one and see how much of the overall reasoning lines up for both characters.
