I for one always loved Ashely. I have played ME1 countless times and I only saved Kaidan and romanced Liara once, just to see it, every other time it's Shepard and Ashley in ME1. I think she is a very cool character and I love the voice. Liara's voice just didn't work for me.

That said, I have to admit that that I fell like a rock for Tali in ME2, when I realized she had this huge crush on Shepard all ready back in ME1. Tali as the shy/awkward romance worked way better than Liara's version of it.

Right now I think I'm going to be really, really torn in ME3 if both Tali and Ashley are available as LI in ME3.

Loved Ash in ME1, and still love her to death to this day. I will remain loyal, and hope we get the warm reunion scene in ME3 that we desperately wanted in ME2.

Go for Ash, tali has chicken legs, plus her fans are creepy

True enough. But Tali is dead anyway, so who cares.

I do hope Ash gets good material in ME3. Or that the Virmire survivor (Ash/Kaidan) get a DLC dedicated to them...

Since either she or Kaidan are guaranteed to be in every ME3 game, the devs can write an important role for the Virmire survivor, assuming they share certain plot points. Being the Alliance marine who survived Shepard's ME1 mission is good enough IMO. Perhaps Hackett or Anderson assigns Ash as your Alliance liaison or something?

It will be interesting to see which outfit we work for in ME3. Somehow I think it'll be something new once again.

Its cute how you think what happened in your playthrough is cannon. Why anyone would be so opposed to a character and not just embrace all of them for their differences is beyond me.

Now that I've finished ME2 and had more time to think about it, I've realised again just how special Ash is compared to the other romance characters in the game. Here are my reasons:

  • Miranda is pretty, but she is too shadowy, her past is really an unknown. Even after the loyalty mission, I didn't feel a real connection with her as a character. Somehow she just seems shallow, and the added effect that I didn't go through the first game with her, I went through that with Ash. However, if I was brand new to the ME universe, Miranda would probably be my choice, since I wouldn't have known Ash.
  • Jack is, to quote TV Tropes, "Ax Crazy". She is not very pretty, and while I like seeing her improve on her messed up past, I feel that it is still all too real for her. Her swearing also puts me off quite a bit. She makes a good squad mate and possibly friend, but for romance she too scarred.
  • Kelly Chambers is pretty, but kind of vacant headed in my view. Her loose intimacy values bother me, as she hasn't earned the right to share that personal connection with my Shep. Nice to talk to though.
  • Liara in ME1 seemed very child like to me, despite her age. I got the feeling that she just wasn't mature enough, but I liked her sweet nature.
  • Lastly, Tali. To me, Tali is a really good friend and squad mate. Tali is also young, so much so that I couldn't connect with her on a romance level. Forgetting all the physical stuff, and despite her recent maturity, she just didn't do it for me.

That is why I found Ash to be so compelling for me. Humans are like that, we can never quite explain why we love the way we do.

All in all, I am hoping that by being faithful, I am rewarded well in ME3. If not, oh well, at least I can be complacent in the idea that I didn't cheat.

Yeah I honestly think Ash is the best matched for Shepard.  Both Alliance soldiers, both are tough, both are firey and opinionated.  I dunno.  They just seemed like the two that had the most in common and the best connection to me.

Luckily, I've left Ash to die in Virmire on both of my playthroughs, so she won't hurt my brain ever again with her racist talk about aliens being like dogs that we can sic on our problems.

Aahhh, peace at last...

Then your brain obviously wasn't worthy! Your loss for not looking deep enough into her character and personality.
Thanks for the bump.

Her Character comes close to being Perfect for Me...she has all the qualities I like and then some.

If you go deep with her character you learn of her love for Poetry.(Tennyson's Ulysses)

She has Flaws but to People that think she is Racist have not played or don't understand her Character.

Ash happily volunteers to go with Captain Kirrahe's team and works well with the salarians, respecting their tenacity and skill in ME1.

(Young kids who play this game most likely do not like Ash..To much work for them LOL)

She she strait up tells off Terra Firma, saying their guided by paranoia.

Ash doesn't hate aliens, she just wants humanity to be able to stand on it's own in the Galaxy, but not neccessarily isolate themselves from other races (then humanity would be no better than the Batarians). It's actually quite a common mindset in regions of the world.

yeah same. personally I could never be with someone who was "perfect". too boring. which is why liara makes me yawn... although she went over a pretty big overhaul in ME2. of course, the other extreme really isnt appealing either.

anyone who didnt romance ashley at least once in ME seriously missed out. probably the deepest and most developed character in that game, in my opinion. perhaps even in the whole series thusfar.

Funny you say that, i feel sort of the same way, but im a guy. I can identify with her on quite a few things, it helps develop a good understanding of her aswell as generating that little spark.

Its hard to put into words but the guy above said how i feel quite well:

"Her Character comes close to being Perfect for Me...she has all the qualities I like and then some."
