Well, that is their prerogative. They just have more screentime to do it with. Liara is always there on Ilium, Liara comic books are flying off the shelves, and I understand there's even talk of an anime series with her as the main character (kidding on that one, but it won't surprise me in the least). She's practically Bioware's annointed.
I really feel like being an Ash supporter is the rockier road, but that's fine with me. I'm not a big fan of doing everything the easy way, anyway, and I refuse to be sucked into Bioware's apparent infatuations. If I may, I will quote some modified textr from Terry Goodkind's Stone Of Tears:
"Liara is a girl, and Ashley is a woman. Liara is a pretty candle, and Ashley is the sunrise."
