To make it work, they could, as a nice expansion, make DLC out of the time between ME1 and ME2, show the build-up, show what the Normandy squad is doing, and as a subplot, they show progression of the romance with Ash, Kaiden, or Liara. It would be great.

To be honest if there were to be an expansion it would be between 2 and 3.

I think it'll be something leading up to the opening scene of ME3...or it could be something entirely different.
Maybe containing 1 or many missions with Ash. *praying*...But we shall see lol
