Honestly... I don't think the dialog was badly written. Why? Because given the emotions, turmoil and sheer randomness of the meeting, Shepard and Ashley where going to say things they'd regret.

For me, it was what Shep was unable to say that led to the regret. The 'you've moved on - I don't want to reopen old wounds' line was great - if there was a sentence added to that it would have been fantastic.

And I would have liked Ash to have had different dialogue to Kaidan in that scene, but that's a point for another discussion. Posted Image

God I loved and hated how both of them handled it.  I can just imagine Shep's thoughts were something like this:

Good to see you Ash.  It's been too long.  "good to see you?!"  omg what the hell was that, John.  yeah real smooth guy!

You've moved on. Why would you even suggest that to her you dolt!  Stop talking right now!  I didn't want to reopen old wounds. Could you be more of an ass?!  Get it together, marine!

So long, Ash. YOU IDIOT!  DON'T JUST LET HER WALK AWAY!  YOU ARE PATHETIC!  GO TO YOUR CABIN AND CRY!  YOU DON"T DESERVE HER!

BWHAHAHA, yes, I can imagine thats what was running through his head.....sadly, I've done similar :pinched:<_<

I was unable to make the same personal connection with Ash that I did Jack.

That being said, Ash and Shep were made for each other. The emotional connection is too strong to ignore. You dont get it with Miranda, Shep just wants sex real bad. You DO get it with Tali, and you do get it with Jack at the very end. But Ash and Shep are all game long in ME1. Its not like they are just BAM, IT FEELS RIGHT ASH. No, there is a slow burn leadup to it. From her wanting to die on Virmire (which was, hands down the most difficult decision I have ever had to make in a video game, Even though I didnt like Kaidan. Kaidan had been a valuable member of my team, and wasnt annoying like Liara.

Shep- Hardened Alliance Soldier, Fights in the Skyllian Blitz, Is saved by Dr. Chakwas (Did anyone else catch that?)

Ash- Rejected Alliance soldier. Fights hard as nails but the stupid Alliance brass keeps her down because of her Grandfather. It all changes when Anderson and Hackett realize how valuable a contribution to Shepard's team she makes. If she dies on Eden Prime, We never know Saren is behind it. If she dies on Eden Prime, We are left with a whole ton of questions, and only 3 or 4 answers about Saren. If she dies on Eden Prime, Shep is unable to beat Saren after Illos (Because he has been beaten down by people that he trusts....But you should never trust Udina.....). This all being said, I disliked Liara but she was just as important. Liara helps Shepard figure out the Cipher and Conduit, and without that knowledge there is no Savior of the Citadel, Because there is no Citadel if we do not follow Saren to Illos.

In short, I love Ash because the emotional connection is there every step of the way. Shep needs SOMEONE when the Council is calling him a nut. Shep needs SOMEONE when Cerberus is trying to get him killed with the "Dead Reaper".

And, in some ways, Ash does too. Ash has survivors guilt, from Eden Prime AND Virmire.

I mean, do I just not have a soul or something? I'm pretty sure I wasn't very fussed by the decision to turn Kaiden into a flame-grilled steak.

Shep- Hardened Alliance Soldier, Fights in the Skyllian Blitz, Is saved by Dr. Chakwas (Did anyone else catch that?)

...no? I think she was on one of the ships that relieved Shep in the War Hero origin but she wasn't exactly single handedly saving him...

Completely agree Hepzi3. My first playthrough of ME1 I had a gut wrenching decision. It did not realy dawn on me Kaiden died until we were flying away and Shep was staring back at the explosion. I did not think any video game would do that to a main character or force you into a choice like that.

I guess that is why I came to like Bioware and their games. I play DA:O and both ME's just because I am forced to think about the choices I make. And live with the outcomes of those choices.

Yes. I have complete and utter faith in Bioware that they will satisfy our need for the Operations Chief in ME3.

I only hope the reunion 2.0 is as emotional as the first one.

Another thing about Kaidan: I didnt like him, As I said. But him....Did he know about Ash and Shep? Maybe. The music after Virmire was so sad....Again, Didnt like him. I didnt feel guilty, it just made me more angry at Saren, which propelled me to beat the game that night. They handled the scene so well. You could lose Wrex and Kaidan/Ash in the same mission, and Wrex is one of my favorite characters. Im so glad that I put a ton of points into Charm and Intimidate so that I would never have to know what its like to make Ash a cold blooded murderer.

I dont understand why people hate her for killing Wrex though. Take it from her perspective and the choice is easy. A very angry Krogan has a pistol to youre Commander (and possibly lover's) head, And youre Commander is trying to simply talk him out of pulling the trigger. Wrex is getting angrier by the minute, and it seems as if he will pull the trigger.

What is so wrong with her shooting Wrex?

Nothing at all your justifications make sense and is probably what most agree with. Like Ash/Miri/Jack/Tali fans et al People do not like anything bad happening to the ones they like the most.

Honestly I only ever took Wrex out once and that was as a renegade. I have like 6 or 7 playthroughs to level 60 of varying male/female sheps and Wrex only died once and I just hated it.

Another reason I think people did not like Ash was because she is not flashy. She does not have any tricks up her sleave (Liara/Biotics). She speaks her mind (I do not need a man). She tackles problems head on. So when you hear how she handled her sister's boyfriend or hear her recite poetry it tends to freak people out. Do not even start with her belief system. I like her alot because in all honesty she breaks most molds for women in video games.

I think her equivalent is Vasquez in Aliens. People loved that character but when they get to play her and see all the shinies with the Asari...

Hell, if I was lucky enough to encounter a woman like that in RL, I certainly would like her ;) Though I can and do understand why some blokes don't like her - women like her can be very intimidating.

EDIT: Although for some reason, all the women in RL who are even slightly like her seem to think acting ****y at me is the same as telling me they want me. Which is bizzare, because I just assume its them being ****y, and don't find out about how they really feel until after its too late to act on it...

*sigh* people are strange sometimes. Well, most times.

I think that is it in a nutshell. She is strong, sure of herself, knows her strengths and limitations. She also knows what she wants and is not afraid to say it.

In fact it is scientifically proven, that Ash is as important to Shepard as Riker is / was to Picard.

its two images since for some reason the forum didn't like it as one image and resized it automatically so I created two images which are lined up on top of each other. If you have a line of text above or below the images it won't appear correctly (forum doesn't like a higher sig than 50 or 60px it seems), you can however post to the side of the bottom image like in my sig).

if you or anybody else ever wants to have it post this in yours sig

Agreed on joining forces. I like Kaiden. It sucks to have to chose. Me2 you have to almost work at getting someone killed. ME1 there is no getting out of the choice. You choose one way I choose oppisite. But we can support each other. I love that. I got your back.

I gather torches and pitchforks, just in case. Hope I never have to use them.
