Also, on topic, I just don't really see learning Spanish as being terribly practical for a space marine, maybe in untranslated turian or something though.

I just always saw her heritage as partly Latina.  So I imagined she just knew it.

Possible , I suppose. Just seems far fetched for a human with ancestors from the United States(judging by her accent), born in space and dealing with aliens to have time to learn Spanish. I for example only know bits of German or Gaelic despite the last of my non-english native speaking ancestors only dying off about 30 years ago.
