I doubt suicide but you never no with Bioware, it was probably that she almost got over what had happened, unless the requisistions officer's charm got the better of her ''need some supplies'' ''you know it''.

I don't doubt she's emotional but killing herself seems so... childish. I guess I would have to be in her position somehow in order to figure out what's running through her head.



Can't wait for ME3 now.

Can't wait for ME3 now.

I couldnt wait since i finished ME1 for the conclusion to such an epic story. When i finaly have ME3 in my hands it will be a glorious and sad day.

Eh, it wouldn't be so out-of-character for her to contemplate committing suicide. Considering Shepard was the only person who made her "feel good enough" about herself and her abilities, they both loved each other, etc. And it added some much needed heartstring-tugging to Horizon; otherwise she would have come off as more passive about his death.

Just played through Horizon again with Kaidan as the LI from the first game, and I have to say I was more impressed with Ashley's scene since he came off as neutral as always even about her passing (not to mention the holier-than-thou attitude Kaidan seemed to present). Ashley never mentioned that she had "moved on" but merely getting on with her life, but Kaidan outright said he moved on and even started dating at the urging of some friends. Made me feel bad for Shepard, but not Kaidan.

If she meant anything, it probably had to do with forming a new relationship. Like with Kaidan, who went on a date at some point, Ash might've simply met someone new and contemplated moving on with them. if thats the case, I'm guessing "I almost" means it didnt work out.



kinda hard to measure up to shepard I suppose.

Yeah suicide is way  out of character for Ash.  There is nothing in this world that she cannot LIVE WITHOUT.  She'll soldier on no matter what without a thought of ending it all ever popping into her head.   She's not that emo.  Not to mention I would guess she has some religious beliefs prohibiting it.

Oh and since you were nice enough to mention my fanfics (again!) I have to point out that my story All Clear is finally finished.   Seven short chapters taking place just after the end of ME1.  Need a coffee break?  Take a look.

I don't know, but "I almost... slept with someone else!" doesn't have the same impact as "I almost... killed myself."

Besides, she didn't even finish which is Ashley's nature anyway so it's all good.

Yeah I don't think it means either of those.    Anyway it wouldn't surprise me if Ash had gone on a couple of dates finally.  Nothing serious, but I'm not ruling out a casual fling for stress relief.

Plus in her email she said she hadn't let herself think of her memories of Shepard in a year, which to me means that after a year of hoping and sulking and torturing herself she finally said "Enough!  Get it together, Ash!"' and buried her pain deep and FORCED herself to move on.

I also think she probably didn't take any time off after he died.  She's one of those people that needs to keep occupied with work or something else to numb the pain.

I like your style of writing Doug84, it's hard to explain... I like the description and images that come to my mind with what you piece together. It reminds me of the first couple Halo novels, which I enjoyed immensely for the same reasons.

I have to come clean, I've only read a few paragraphs from your story. Haven't had much time to settle down and read them all the way through.

I just really liked the opening for both. Keep at it, good to see creative people flexing their stuff instead of seeing more sappy slashfics.

Although a lot of people seem to say it would be too out of character for Ash to commit suicide and I do personally think its a little drastic I would never underestimate the power of love. Many people commit sucide in real life because they've lost somebody or somebody broke their heart, etc & I don't buy the whole she's a soldier she would never do it, she's tough on the outside but there is a lot more to her than that (after all isn't that the reason why some of us love her so much), she recites poetry after all lol

And like yeoldarche said earlier Shepard was the only person who made her "feel good enough", finding that right someone sometimes only comes around once and for Ash I find it hard to believe she will ever let somebody in or get that closer to her again after Shepard died, I find it easier to think about the idea of her giving up when I consider that.

But I don't fully believe she meant to say that & like I said I think it is a little too drastic. I just think never underestimate what love can make somebody do regardless of how tough they are, just imagine what RAMBO 46 would do if they killed Ash in ME3 lol
