So I've decided that Shepard really owes Ashley an apology. She apologized yes, but he was just a total fail on Horizon. This better not be one of those things where Shepard can do no wrong. Because he was a tool on Horizon. "Good to see you" or "You don't seem happy to see me. Something wrong?" just don't cut it when someone who loved you is telling you how horrible it was for them when you were dead. Shepard was like a robot in that scene, totally oblivious to how upset she was. I for one REALLY need just one moment of Shepard being imperfect. Because that's the way I like him. So I need for him to be able to say "I'm sorry too" at some point.
I agree. I might be wrong. But I kinda feel like Ash can knock my Shep off balance. He can give great speaches, save the galaxy, ect. But the one time he really needs to talk or take some action when it comes to Ash . He chokes.

Testify. You just don't treat an old friend (possibly more) who's had to go on living with the belief that you're dead the way Shepard did Ashley. "It's been too long, Ash," really? How about, "I didn't think I was ever going to see you again after being blown the #@&% up by the Collectors." Or even "you're a sight for sore eyes" (sore hearts). Shepard totally bombed that conversation.
I'm with you, I really really hope this an even-Shepard-isn't-perfect moment. If everything is instantly alright in ME3 I will considerably let down.

I just feel like in ME2 they created "perfect" Shepard. Like he could do no wrong. He didn't seem real. It was boring to me. I feel like the new target audience wants nothing more than ALPHA! Shepard whose word is law, whose decisions are final and who can crush beer bottles with his pecs. That's exactly what was missing from this game. Shepard didn't have Ashley or Kaidan to be the sounding board that balances him out. Except for that one scene.... where he failed miserably to be human.

Zeuss I don't know but I am guessing when it comes to Ashley you are like me. Pig headed.
Not gonna change even if bioware tries to make us.
Getting us to ditch our friends was obviously their intent. They wanted to see if we would pass the same test we're requiring of our whole team; the loyalty test. Yes, sometimes it's hard, but struggle is intrinsic to anything of value. Nothing in life is for free. That's why I never bought into the Liara romance; it's effortless.<_<

They got like 2 1/2 years before ME 3 is prolly coming out, i'm pretty sure they know by now they pissed many people off with their handling of the ME 1 charcachters in 2. I dont see them doing that again.

Shep. I keep telling myself we are doing the right thing. I don't believe me yet.
Ash. Well believe me then. We are doing the right thing.

My Shep hit every bar at every port. My Shep was a sad angry drunk, and he was paragon. Don't know what he would act like as a renegade.callofdoobie wrote...

Ha, I have a Shepard *sort of* like that, 'cept she's a Ruthless Earthborn who pretty much hates everything, but especially asari (well, if you listen to my brother). Distinctly Renegon.

If my sad angry drunk paragon Shep doesn't get Ashley back. The reapers wont be the only problem for the galaxy. Everything dies. My Shep will lose his mind. He is emotional. Keeps it inside. So it messes him up.
He ought to get a chip put in his brain to help control those awful emotional issues. That's what my SoSur Shepard did after he lost it on Akuze. Got a new arm, too. He cyborg.

Thats how my renegade Shep rationalized blowing up the base, the collectors made him loose almost everything, so he was going to take everything from them

We never got a shepard moment of weakness in ME2. Me1 locker scene. Shep is down and frustrated. Ash comes by to help. Even before ilos, during the talk before the love scene. Shep can be unsure of himself. Ash picks him up and stands by him.

THIIIISSS!!!
In ME2 I didn't feel like Shepard was a real character at all. In ME1 there was vulnerability. That moment at the locker where he's angry, looks at Ash and then jus COLLAPSES in defeat onto the floor is one of my favorite moments. What is the point of having a hero if he doesn't have to overcome something internally during the course of the story?
And in ME2...HE WAS DEAD FOR TWO YEARS, lost some of his crew, lost his friends and lover, is working for an organization he hates AND on top of all that he's got to save the galaxy again. Really? There's not a single moment of "Wow. I'm kind of overwhelmed and I don't know how to deal with it."
BORING.

Mass Effect 2 was, far more than the first game, a time of trial of the depths of Shepard's character. In one way or another, he loses nearly everyone and basically has to go it alone. I agree he needed maybe just one moment of weakness, the only thing that came close is the scene where he looks at the photo on his desk. In Mass Effect 1 he had that scene where he nearly gave in to true despair. ME2 was severely lacking in that department.

I was also mad as an Ash faithful Shep in ME2 that the only ones who seemed to acknowledge my relationship with Ash. Were joker and kelly. What? Garrus and Tali where you there? Was it that much of a secret? Even if people didn't know they feel for each other. They knew they were very close.

Shep couldn't afford to be vulnerable in 2. Besides after taking out a Reaper its gonna take a lot to make you feel overwhelmed.

It's not about affording to be vulnerable. I'm not saying I wanted him to break down and have a spaz. But really? Not a single acknowledgment of "holy **** everything is so messed up and I don't know if I can handle it."

Some may not like a frustrated weak shep. I don't mind. When your LI or best buddy come to help you instead of you them. It feels more real to me.
