I've been thinking. I like Miranda and Jack and all, but I have realized that they are basically just amped up polarized two halfs of the same coin that is Ashley. Ash is pretty, so they made Miranda gorgeous. Ash is aggressive, so they made Jack an edgy, mouthy badass. (Oversimplified, but I'm tired)
It's kind of like:
Ash 50/50
And Jack and Miranda are 100/0 on complete opposite ends of the spectrum.
I'm thinking the conversation went down like this:
Dev1: So what about Ashley?
Dev2: GREAT character. Wonderful depth. Really interesting. Scrap her.
Dev1: What?
Dev2: She's too complex. She'll be too polarized. People will have to like...think...or something about the things she says. Nobody wants to do that. They'll be confused. They will have conflicting feelings about her. As she is people really like her but are challenged by her. It's too much for their brainS.
Dev1: So....what should we do?
Dev2: Let's make her two different characters. That way everyone can love JUST one or the other and and also love everything about them instead of dealing with pesky realistic flaws. It's much simpler that way.
Dev1: You're a genius.
Dev2: Oh and give one of them boobs so they know she's a woman and give the other tattoos so people will know she's edgy.
Dev1: Where do you come up with this awesomeness?
Dev2: ...*staring off* huh huh...boobs.
