First time poster here and I think it is fitting that I post here
Ashley was probably my second favourite character (behind Garrus) in the first game and I really enjoyed her character; especially opening her eyes to accepting aliens aboard the ship. There were many touching moments in the first game and I was fairly disappointed to discover that she would not be returning as a squad member in ME2 (although I understood the choice considering the plot involving a suicide mission)
I was so very excited to see her appear in ME2, but then I felt a little betrayed that after all we went through, I didn't even have a dialogue option to make her understand. My responses were so vague and incriminating that I totally saw where she was coming from. I am glad she had the cameo, but I felt it wasn't handled delicately (fans didn't seem to be in mind when writing the scene)
I had pretty much decided that Ashley had fallen to the wayside and the writers were pushing for the player to accept a new love interest for ME2. I was saddened that I was going probably going to end up romancing someone else, and feeling as though I was betraying her. And then the e-mail came. My feelings went from mixed back to what they were beginning ME2. The scene right before you jump through the relay was equally powerful and made me feel that I was making the right choice. I like Tali, I like Miranda, hell, I even like Jack, but I feel Shepard and Ashley is the way this series is supposed to be.
I support Ashley returning in ME3 fully. Whether it be as a squad mate, a member of the Normandy Crew, lots of scenes involving her and Shepard (wedding perhaps?), or whatever, but not another cameo like in ME2. Not another half-baked conversation that leaves me frustrated and wondering why I bothered involving myself with her in the first place. I think Bioware is a very smart developer and knows what they are doing so I probably don't have to worry. Let's just hope I am right
