I don't know whether Bioware would show Ash with her hair down in ME3 - it's a bit like the will they/won't they debate regarding showing Tali's face. No matter how Bioware handles that - people are going to be disappointed.

I do find it interesting that, of all the people we've met in the Mass Effect games, Miranda is the only person with long hair who wears it down. Is long hair that uncommon in the future?

Very true - Bioware are gonna have to make 'who do we want to not-****** off' choices in ME3. And true - I think it my just be a style thing; With Ashley at least, long hair loose is a disadvantage as it can get stuck in things like armour joints or get in the way of your eyes. With Miranda - I think its more because she fits into the 'secret agent' side of things rather than 'soldier', and long hair sends the signal 'civilian' more than bun hair.

In fact, why is hair so rare in aliens? Humans seem to be the only hairy species. Is that just our unique thing? (well, the Quarians probably do have hair, but we don't know...yet)

Aw, and here you were pompoms in hand, ready to cheer for team Kaidan, do your well choreographed dance and then someone took the innocence of the mighty pompoms. Such a shame, would have loved to have seen your dance

*Does dance, but only for Jhosephine ^_^ - pom-poms go flying*

EDIT: Tune in next post where I'll get a court order and an exclusion zone.

Not been on the Kaiden thread yet, don't think I want to now...

I agree with the practicality issue - and I'm glad the devs went with the 'hair in bun' option for ash rather than simply giving her short hair or a bob. Not that ash wouldn't look nice with shorter hair - but I think the longer hair suits her better.

It's interesting to see the concept art for Miranda with blonde hair - because she looks so different. Amazing what a change in hair colour can do to a character.

I think the hair thing is curious - because it's always struck me that most of the alien species retain 'human-like' facial features, but they each have their own unique 'top of head' species trait. So the Asari have their head tentacles; the Turians have their head fringe; the Salarians have their double feeler things; the krogan have their scalp plate. Even the Vorcha have their unique head rolls thing going. We don't know what the Quarians and the Volus look like and the Hanar and Elcor aren't bipedal so I don't classify them in this group. The Batarians are really the only aliens that don't maintain the 2 eyes, a nose, a mouth facial structure.

The obvious answer to why so few people have long hair down is that it's a lot harder to make it look right. It's true that people can have long hair in games like Sims, but that's because they all stand up and walk slowly most of the time. It takes a lot of graphic power to make long hair look good when you crouch or run. Graphics are getting there, but it's still hard to make it look good.

Ash having her hair in a knot makes perfect sense for a soldier. I think regulations about hair will exist in some form even in the future. But I still hope that we can get a scene where Ash lets down her hair in a cut scene in ME3. I think they will (or at least should) show Tali's face in ME3 too btw.

Yup, though I think that's standard hair for modern female soldiers (someone posted Miss England awhile back in her army gear - yes, I had no idea Miss My Country was a soldier, heh), so its definitely a practical choice of hair style for warfare.

Indeed! But not surprisingly really - human details like that are what our brains focus on because we as a social species have evolved with those things as being important to notice.

But also, it matched the uniform better, so I'm told - she was gonna be a blond because her VO was a blond.

True. And really, most of the aliens look too human to be real, I suppose - but thats the ultimate limit of sci-fi - we just don't know what is common in other alien species and what's unique to us.

True true. Hair is a hard thing to simulate in the computer because its so loose and shifts so easily, making it hard to fake convincingly.

As for the hair on female soldiers, I think its already standard regulations to have hair tied up - as I said, it can get caught in things or get in the way of your eyes if its left loose.

I think the reason why alien spieces retain 'human-like' features, but have different 'top head' is a compromise. They want each alien spieces to feel different from humans, while keeping them sufficiently similiar so that emotions in the face and body language come across. Even if you never see Tali's face, there is a lot of emotions that come across in her body langauage, especially if you pursue the romance. It makes sense to keep the face as human as possible for the alien races, where you communicate a lot of emotions, and then emphasize the difference between spieces in areas where we seldom look for signs of body language, like the 'top head'.

True - fortunately, Star Trek et al laided the ground work so that we don't expect alien-looking-aliens and can accept the suspension of disbelieve when it comes to galaxies full of bipedal aliens :)

Well, true, but he normally goes 'oh man I do love ashley' or something like that randomly throughout the pages. Its alittle wierd but we love him like a socially awkward little brother.

But welcome to the thread anyways!

As someone who actually has long hair, I wouldn't dream of doing anything strenuous without putting it up, there's nothing worse than having hair plastered to you face n the middle of an exercise class so yes as a soldier it would be ridiculous to wear it down. As for Miranda, the whole outfit is ludicrous, I mean running in heels?! Crazy!

Indeedie. Mind you, all the outfits get ridiculous when it comes to space - seriously, a face mask just doesn't cut it!

What you mean it wouldn't work? Posted Image

Lol only messing, when I first saw that I was literally screaming at the tv about how stupid that was and list all of the reasons why it was stupid.  Scared my poor dogs half to death.

You know as impressive as her boobs are, I was playing ME1 and what about Benezia?!  Hell I'm developing an unhealthy obsession with those puppies and I really don't want to, they like, pop out of the screen!  It's no wonder those Asari have a bit of a reputation.

The beauty of Ash is she looks feminine but badass and has a womanly figure without going OTT.

Crazy.  Girls shouldn't be obsessed with other girls boobs, especially not fake blue ones *shudder*

Indeedie! Though she wasn't in space. But I have to admit, seeing an Asari who was supposed to be like a granny or something with brests that large and out their made my mind hurt.
