Would recommend using xvid compressor @ 29.97 fps for youtube.

If nothings going on, anyone care to tell me what video editing software (preferable freeware) they prefer?  I'm think about diving into obsession full tilt and trying to make one of these cool tribute videos everyone is doing.

Sony Vegas is decent.

Sony Vegas is like top of the line stuff. But it costs a mint unless you go through other means of acquiring it. I generally just use
http://download.live.com/MovieMaker
because its free and it does a good job for what I need. But then again, i don't do anything that requires too much technical stuff. I use photoshop for the gifs primarily.

So that's a start, hopefully someone else will come along and be more specific.
