I'm trying to open my save game in the tool set but when I open it (*.das) it either says out of memory (I have 8GB doubt that could honestly be it) or it says "Unable to read the GFF file"
Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately it could really honestly be out of memory. The GFF editor is... not exactly the most elegant or efficient piece of software engineering we have produced. 
Sorry about that, the editor's poor memory management is a known issue but not one we've been able to make priority for yet. We've put out documentation on the GFF file format so if it really comes down to it perhaps someone can create a savegame editor that overcomes these issues.
