Really?
I felt like the PC and besides (though that might be because I roleplay my male shep as being awkward and although he is a good leader a bit shy on the command side.) he got better as the game went along (and worse at moments) and in 2 he's awesome. (Especially renegade.)

The actual answer to this would be no voice. You cannot expect any developers to provide hundreds of different voices to suit individual tastes.Selvec_Darkon wrote...
The actual answer to this would be to allow choice of voices. Course that would be expensive.
Gotta love how this community though likes to beat on the opinion that differs from their own.
This is what every community is all about, diversity of opinions. You are not supposed to start a thread and always expect the majority to agree with you.
In any case, I would love to see Jennifer Hale back for Mass Effect 3.

So I disagree. Female Shepard was right on from ME1 through ME2. She should be retained. Male Shepard same. Both have done excellent work.

The assumption that "Lower voice" and "Japanese School Girl voice" are the only types of female voices in the world is beginning to annoy me. I personally wouldn't have minded something like Morigans voice in DA, or any one of the voice actors used in KOTOR..
Like Bastila's voice actor?

Actually as the consumer who paid $130NZD for his overpriced Xbox360 game, I can expect that heh.

Oh hey, being an ass, now that's something new <_<
If Hale did bastila then great, they don't need a new voice actor, just a better voice. I honestly didn't like it in the slightest. I quit my female play through because I couldn't stand it. It was that bad in my opinion, and given some of the replies here, I'd say more then a few people agree with me.

Look you can not like the voice, that's a purely personal preference.
But it's a very challenging job for any actor. As is any kind of branching dialogue, much more so when you need to be able to put the subtle inflections of many completely contradictory motives behind each to deliver believable wholes.
And Hale did an amazing job in both. The guy behind manshep much better in the second.
Just like there's a few people jumping on and being very judgemental about her voice there's a lot showing their support. You just seem annoyed people are disagreeing with you, I gave a well thought out argument to counter your rather poorly mentioned comments and in return you call me an ass.
I really just have one thing to ask, do you really think it would be feasible to have multiple voiced for each gender of Shephard?

Good stuff.

P.S. Considering I play my Shepard from a MASS EFFECT savegame, having another actress voice the role would be jarring as heck. Glad she's back, glad she's damm good at her work.

You realise most voice over actors will be getting paid something in that ballpark per minute? I remember doing an amateur thing where we had some promo lines done by George Lowe and we pooled just to get pay him for 30 seconds of work.
A talented voice actor doesn't come cheap.
The wonderful Mr Lowe did end up doing a couple of minutes more than what we paid him for though, man he was a good sport.

Is there a point to your question? What exactly do you perceive as "wrong" in my statement?

Its probably because of the Narm. I'm so used to JRPGs that I felt right at home.
Everyone complaing about Meer's voice here:

Meer is good (Captain of the Rayya...) but his take on the character was all wrong for me. He has a lot of soulless lines, even more soulless than Harbinger or Sovereign. "No, you were wonderful", or "Why are you doing this?", or anything intimate...

Other than that I felt the voice actor displayed an outstanding range in filling out all the facets of female Shepard. It's likely, though, that the character was acted out from only one background profile and altered via software or talkbox for the others (which tends to make them sound a bit raspy).

FemShep's voice is much, MUCH better. Perfect, really. It seemed like most everyone felt the same way about ME1 as well.

I love Jennifer Hale's Shep. Meer is ok, but to me, her performance has a great deal more depth. Now as others have mentioned voice acting is a subjective thing, but I can't help but feel that there is a kind of underlying repulsion towards stronger female characters in most cultures that's driving some of the more negative sentiments here. Some of them, not all.
FemShep does not IMO, sound butchy, chain-smokerish, or flat. She sounds very femine, focused, and strong, exactly how I would expect someone in a military command position to sound. I would think for the rank Shep is probably in his/her mid thirties. She (in this case) should not sound like a teenager or very young woman (wasn't bastila like 20 or something?) that is not her character.
Personally speaking I enjoy the FemShep character a great deal. I have played games most of my life (I'm 23) and really appreciate having a strong womanly female lead, especially in an industry (definitely can't blame it on the game industry but that's the industry we are talking about here) where it feels like all the women either need saving every five minutes or have strong personalities but use sex as a weapon. Now of course at this point people will start pulling out other examples of non-objectified female leads. I didn't say there were none, there just aren't a lot of them. especially in Triple A titles like ME. If anyone here remembers/played Beyond Good and Evil (so glad it is finally getting the sequel it deserves) the character of Jade is another good example of the kind of female lead I'd like to see featured in games.
There's nothing wrong with being sexy, but there's also nothing wrong with being intelligent as well. FemShep is a good portrayal of a far more realistic kind of female character IMO. I like the character, the model, and the voice, and think that it is a shame there's not even a tiny bit of room for her in the ME marketing machine.
