So, just how much strength should a 2 handed warrior have?

I've been just rolling along with this character, trying not to look at any online advice for fear of spoiling something or the other. So far, so good. I seem to hit quite hard with my two handed weapon, master coercion is a blast, and I'm doing 40% of my group damage, which I'm hoping is a good sign. :P

However, I'm kind of getting nervous after once again looking over stat requirements for talents and weapons. Specifically, all two handed weapon talents cap off in the late 30s requirement wise, with only one requiring 40 strength. Likewise, my blood dragon armor only needs 36 strength. However, are weapons in the same range? Will I end up needing even more strength than I initially planned, or is 40 some kind of cap for itemization?

If I will, that throws a monkey wrench into things. I'm sure I'll need at least 25 dex for some of the reaver or berserker stuff, but I'll never be able to pump it that high if I need 50 strength or something absurd like that, let alone spare any points for willpower to boost my stamina pool. Ugh.

Any suggestions? I'm not far enough along in the game to see the best 2 handed weapons, so I'm not quite sure what they require to wield. I only hope I have the necessary stats when the time comes, if only because I want the thing I'm hewing people with to be as glorious as possible. haha

Hehe, my duel wield warrior does around 60-70% of the damage in the party and has a 71% hit rate. Wmhaaaaa!

No matter, you need a ton of strength, 2h is all about damage. I think you need 40 strength to get all the 2h talents. You don't need dex and I wouldn't bother with it. Instead I'd boost CON (try to get it to 20 at least) since you will be taking a lot of hits with your low defense/dex. Also make sure to boost willpower, try to get it to 20 as well.

If it's any help, I'm at 50 Strength right now, and even though I hit like a truck on the Hard/Nightmare difficulty I find myself whiffing at air half the time with only 20 Dexterity.

I'm up to level 18 and the highest strength requirement I've seen is 38 for a set of tier 7 full plate that being said the more strength you have the more damage you will do so there is no reason not to keep pumping it up.

From what I understand.. it's the culmulative scores for your attack. IE: 50 Str. 20 Dex = 70

30 Str. 40 Dex. = 70

You should be hitting just as much. I would advise getting Precise Strike talents and using them (not only a huge boon to +attack but also +crit as well)

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the words of wisdom. Also, I wish I'd seen this before I remade the thread. I thought the forums had eaten it up without it ever being posted. Eek to duplicate threads! :o My apologies! You all have been very helpful.

You get .5 pts of attack rating for dex and .5 for strength. Dex is imprtants for avoidning being hit in the first place, though, so higher dex helps make up for the lack of a shield.

You can use item manipulation to get your str requirement to wear an equipment. I say stop at 40 str and put the rest somewhere else.
