It's not a matter of getting him to accept. If he's in love or still in love (broken up with) I cannot get him to refuse the ritual. The best I can do is have my warden back off. But if she keeps telling him to do it, even without persuade checks, he does it.

Yes, that's the warden backing down. You have lots of opportunities to let him off the hook. Also, he may refuse if he's not in love or still in love. Someone else on these boards pointed that out to me, and I went and tried to get him to refuse without letting him off the hook on a character I knew he was still in love with. It just didn't happen.
Edit: And spelling errors don't count on the internet!
