Because it changes the difficulty in a diffrent way. I know I would like to play on Normal with full FF. Some poeple want the enemies more difficult but dont want to care where they have to cast spells. Just setting the difficulty to easy might make the game somewhat boring for those poeple who want FF off.

It would just be as boring as playing on easy... there wouldn't really be much difference, except that monsters might last a little longer. People want to take away the tactical aspect of the game (which they might find bothersome), but have fights last a little longer than they do in easy mode.

Sure I guess more options are always ok. It is a single player after all. The only thing they need to do is make sure all achievements are overridden by a Cheese wheel saying "Player Xxxx is a wuss"!

I actually would like it the other way around, being able to set it to easy but still have friendly fire. That way the battles would still be easier for me, but I'd still have to think strategically. I know we all have our own opinions about this, but I think it would be really nice if friendly fire were a toggle in options, regardless of the difficulty you are playing on.

It's always funny how there are some who try to convince people more options are a bad thing.

As a software developer, I can tell you that it is *absolutely* true. More options are OFTEN a bad thing. Here's a few reasons why:
1. Complicates the UI
2. Needs to be documented
3. Increases overall complexity in the software
4. Introduces bugs

There are actually several more reasons, but they become more specific based on target audience of the software, sophistication of the users, current complexity, etc.

Now, overall that's not to say features shouldn't be added, as there can be considerable value obviously in new features. Plus, a good feature can lessen the minuses listed above rather than add to them. My point is that there is a lot to take into consideration, and one should not blindly assume that it is always a good thing to be adding features.

Oh come on what a bollox. What difficulty is it to add a darn checkbox control in the options screen and have it control the friendly-fire parameter which is already controlled by the static difficulty setting. It's an hour job AT MOST! Tauting you're a software developer doesn't make your argument more convincing for such a trivial option as a FF switch.

FYI, I don't care about a separate FF option, I'm fine with the way it is through difficulty settings but I can see the desire for people to either turn it on or off fully.

I wouldn't complain about it being implanted but I can't help but think why would you want to make hard easy? Because seriously without friendly fire hard would be so simple it would be unthinkable. No longer would you even need to use force field, you could just send Alistair in, use taunt then just spam nukes without having to care. What's the point? That's not playing hard, you might as well ask to remove enemy spell damage or somesuch. I know that's a strawman but in my opinion if you want to play on a harder difficulty you shouldn't want to make it easier.

I again don't mind them adding in new options because I don't have to select them but I still think this one is a little pointless. Might as well just play normal or easy.
