If you don't like it Bioware have PLENTY of games worth your time from pre-EA takeover. Play those.

I still do. =P

The singular verb describing collective noun thing is only used in America. The rest of us use plural verbs. So I'm just going to go ahead and change that back.

And if you're playing the old games and you still enjoy them why are you complaining? Bioware are (yes, are) like an author or a director - they might not always make something that's to your liking. So don't play it. Go find something else for yourself. Get into indie gaming. Whatever. But you spend time talking **** about EA like they raped your wife. It's not that seriouos.

Here comes my 2 cents. Are you ready?

I really liked how they handeled the sex scenes in this game. They were really tastefull and not over the top. What I do wonder is, that in SuZe romance, did Shepard/Jack really have sex, since Sheps clothes are on whole time...

Oh well, perhaps that was foreplay ;)

For many this isn't an issue about showing actual nudity, but the lack of realism in many of these scenes. Hell, take Jack's paragon scene and it is absurd to argue that it is a realistic portrayal. Are you really telling me that Shep and Jack stripped down, made love, redressed, then got back into bed for the cuddling... please. Next you are going to tell me that Morrigan putting a bra on for sex makes sense.

There would be no issue with many gamers if the games simply faded out during the sex and then faded in with the characters cuddling under the sheets. But this fully clothed or bra absurdity is a joke. And it is a valid criticism of the romantic scenes. We aren't demanding nudity. We are simply demanding that the devs actually try and make the scene look realistic. That didn't happen and thus the anger.

While I agree with you concerning the romance issue that started this thread (Seriously ? Self sensorship ? Jack's dialouge is worse than some HBO shows.) I think it's important to realize, even a dictator can be ousted from power. I'm concerned that all of Bioware's sucesses are begining to go to their heads a little. I hope not, I think one of the reasons why ME2 is so great is BECAUSE Bioware listened to their fans. It would be a shame if they went all "George Lucas" on us. "It's ours we can do what we want, Screw the fans!" . Don't bite the hands that feed you,.

Maybe it was a simple mistake. I hope it is, it would be a shame if it isn't :(

Even though I am 'on the side' of, I guess to be totally blunt about it, 'more space boobies'

I really like how Woo has responded to all the arguments. And because of such I am not gonna argue, I still love mass effect and I am glad bioware is doing what they are doing.

I don't think we need nudity in movies either, oh lets remove violence in games and movies too. Lets next censor news media so that they can no longer show war footage on broadcast T.V.

To the original point of this post, I find it sad that in the "land of the free" that we allow such a twisted set of views. We americans have no problem allowing our 13 year old son to play GTA with the cop shooting, prostitute beating, robbing houses and car jacking. But put in a TASTEFUL plot device such as the wonderful gift of love making(MASS EFFECT 1) between two characters who have developed a relationship with each other and parents flip and the media wants to burn the producers alive.

Let's keep the politics out of the discussion, please. Eavh region will have its own laws, cultural bias, and tolerances, and this discussion tends to put people on the defensive. This leads to arguments that we'd rather not have on our forums.

Seriously game Devs need to grow some nads, it the game is rated M then let the rating speak for itself, it is NOT your job to parent the child. If the actual parents lack that ability and decide to use media to parent the child then perhaps they should invest in any number of parents for dummies books out there that might help them!!!

You are absolutely correct. It is not our job to parent the child or determine what content is acceptable or unaceptable for our players. But on the other hand, it is not your jobe to dictate what content we include or don't include in our games. Game development is not a collaborative effort between developers and gamers; it is a dictatorship, where we alone determine what content goes into our game. Wow, this has to be the worst response I've seen from someone in a position of power for some time. While I agree that sex/nudity shouldn't play a huge role in the game (and the scenes you have in the game now are all nicely done and fit the characters perfectly for their personalities). You saying that game development isn't a collaborative effort is just plain out false and insulting to players. Our input has made it into the game, you may decide what goes into a game at the final stages, but we decide what we purchase. With comments like yours, you can be assured I'll be thinking twice about it next time I see a Bioware product.

I think you just won this thread? This is the best summary I've seen of the issues with ME2 itself. (As opposed to endless attacks about which posters are more mature than others.)

I have no problem with ME2's romance scenes; hey, you know, we should just call it 'romance' scene instead of 'sex' scene, so people actually... never mind 13y old boys actually think romance is all about sex, my bad... So, am I on the band wagon of telling someone to "get laid" now? I am soo cool now, I told someone online to "get laid", lulz... hmm.. HIGH FIVE!... Hm.. DOOOD!

Sarcasm aside, I do have no problem with ME2's romance scenes, they are actually the best of the 3 Bioware's games that featured romance: ME1 was cheesy, DA made baby jesus cry(Morrigan and her extra clothing during sex? Since when do we put on a fullplate for sex and wear bikini for battle?), ME2 was good. But, as we all know, there is no way to please everyone, some people actually liked DA's romance scenes!

What I don't get is why is a QA trash talking to the consumers? Game design, surprisingly, is a design industry, so one of the many things that seperate an artist from say... a designer, is that well, designers have to alter their product to the consumer's need, within reason, while an artist is more about, let's say, self-expression, and they can, lemme borrow the word, dictate what they want to do without giving two damns about what the audience wants. In another word, to say that the consumers have no say in how the game is designed mean he either doesn't know how it worked, or he just think he is better because he works in the QA story team(which far as I know, does not equal to a...hmm.. story writer.), but the view on his horse must be pretty nice.

And afterall, it isn't rocket science, you don't even need some fancy phd to see that they did make changes to the game(compared with the 1st), based on customer's response, and the controversal 'sex' scene being one of them.

But lastly, I must say I like the ME2's romance scenes, because they have more taste in them... So, eh... go get laid, you basement dwellers; stay on your high horses, the telling-people-to-get-laid crowds; and last but not least, stay lurking you damn creepy lurkers, like myself.

Just a thought saw an article on the censorship on mass effect 2 and it had me thinking why must bioware censor whatever in mass effect but I've played the demo for dante inferno and the one characters which is female by the way had her breast( trying to keep it clean here lol) out and you saw everything and still it is rated M. So was this biowares decision to censor it or they just don't want the bull that the rating people will give or what personally it would have shocked the he'll out of me if there were nudity but just wanted to know your guys opinion.

The thing is, most of the romance scenes do fade out before the sex. All this complaining about fully clothed people pouncing other people is ludicrous. You don't always just immediately throw all your clothes to the ground. Foreplay, people, foreplay.

I've not seen the one for Jack, so I'll give you that one may be off.

Most of them are decent enough, though pale in comparison to the banter before and after the scene in ME1.  So even discounting the horrid clothing issue with Jack it is still a valid criticism of this game.  It is a step back from what was offered in ME1.  The scene itself felt more natural in ME1 whereas this game really seemed to struggle through the actual culmination of the romance.

The ESRB has no problem with female nudity if they are displayed as sex objects like strippers.  But put nudity in a love scene and they will smack an AO rating on you.  That's the kind of stupidity you're dealing with.

Here's to hoping that either digital downloads explode across all platforms and remove the stigma brick and mortar stores attach to AO titles or that some stores finally take a stance and stop this BS of refusing to stock AO titles.

Though I still shake my head at the stupidity that rates decapitations as Mature and sex as the dirty Adults Only... really, sex is worse than blood?

I really thought the scene in the original Mass Effect was well done. It was sensual and erotic and really sealed the deal romantically. Just like reading a great romance novel. The scenes in ME2 were pretty uneventful, boring and anti-climatic.

The original ME1 scene had that one "network" making a big to-do about it, which in turn got people who don't even play games ready to form picket lines in front of Bioware studios. Just like the uproar over the yet unreleased game "Heavy Rain" for it's nudity. I have no idea if these outcries impacted Bioware's taming, but we'll never know.

I recently watched a "Lifetime network" movie called "High Noon", for example.  Now that was a steamy scene for a "TV-PG" rating. No one got upset over that. So there is def a line between what is considered appropriate in media and what's not.

If it's considered art, you can get away with a LOT! Just check out "deviantart" website. The Mature content there is okay because it's "artistic". Videogames still have a while to go before it's considered a viable artform, I guess.

To be honest, Bioware didn't even have to show sex in Mass Effect, it's a choice which is intended to show the bond between characters. It doesn't have to be revealing, raunchy or anything like that otherwise it's going overboard on the intended use of the sex scene is. The fact that they chose to have one in the game makes it mature enough, it's a decision made by the developers, much like a decision a director would make in a movie/TV show.

So I have no idea what the complaints are all about, if you want unnecessary raunchy sex, go watch porn or get laid. What's mature about sex in games is how it's shown and Bioware knows how to go about it. It's not the aspect of the game I play it for, unlike some people...

I posted this in a conversation about the "sex" in ME2 on another web site, so I might as well post it here as well.

I'm so sick of hearing people talk about how ridiculous the "sex" scenes are because the characters still have their clothes on. They aren't having sex in these scenes people- it's called foreplay, and then it fades away leaving the sex implied.

I know this may come as a shock to all the 12 year olds commenting on here, but people do not magically become naked before they approach each other to begin having sex. It's actually quite common to spend plenty of time kissing or petting while still fully clothed before actually undressing and engaging in coitus.

There are numerous Oscar winning films or Pulitzer winning novels that simply imply that sex happened (kissing, leading to the bedroom, fade out)- actually showing the naughty bits is not required to make the scene "realistic".

Gorn Kregore said it best:  Get laid.  If you can't, there's tons of porn out there just a click away.

Indeed. It's a shame though that Bioware is lowering itself by responding to a relativity small number of immature fans. That "dictatorship" comment certainly didn't help It just added more fuel to the fire.

Clearly you haven't played Jack's scene yet... it wasn't the clothing in the build up but the fact that they were cuddling after the act FULLY CLOTHED!

And people aren't screaming to see penetration or boobs or anything of that nature.  What people are asking for is a similar feel to that of ME1.  Instead the scenes are mostly lacking in comparison and do not measure up to the standard that ME1 set.  Since most are calling for scenes akin to ME1 and ME1 did not show any real nudity... this whole argument that all we want is T and A and simply need to get laid is pathetic, shallow, and utterly devoid of any coherent logic.

Basically, we want what was in ME1... what was in ME1 wasn't porn or nudity... so that means we are demanding that ME2 have porn or nudity.   Do you see the bad reasoning yet?

I just want to SEE TALI'S FACE, DAMMIT! >:(

But on topic, while I would enjoy seeing sex and nudity depicted in ME3, I am also happy with the way Bioware are doing things now. Making a great, interesting, engaging story is MUCH better than simply trying to shoehorn some gratuitous nudity and sex into a game, just for the hell of it.
