A Dragon Age 2 may not be a direct sequel

Tends to make a better story anyways. Doesn't really effect me if ti differed from the story line.

That being said, I'd love Dragon Age games with a different PC in different settings and timelines as well, I just hate the cliched "This is what happened 30 years ago, and now for something completely different" formula for sequels.

also doing the personal quests for characters actually mean something other than 'yay i love you' so if you dont do it, something will happen to them, i definatly think incorporating things from ME2 would be great in a DA sequel, what do you guys think?

i hope a sequel game of dragon age so DA2 for example, takes some things from mass effect 2 like, interactive speaches so the characters actually say what you select instead of nothing and have the interupt mode aswell which would be great,

I think ME2's party interaction and dialogue were far inferior to DAO, and hope DAO takes nothing from ME2, as I would consider it a step backwards. I consider the the ME franchise to have two distinct dialogue features, neither of which would likely translate well for a traditional RPG: that the PC has a voice actor and the "conversation wheel" means that the PC is not necessarily reponding to prompts as expected. Neither of these features would increase the RPG aspect of a player customizing the character to be uniquely their own -- which is why ME has a Cmdr Shepard.
And while the "interupt" system might be approproiate for ME2, it would likely be very inappropriate for a traditional RPG because it gives you less control of the PC's actions rather than more control.

Sounds fine to me as well. I'd actually like to see a sequel deal with other areas in the Dragon Age world. Not only other countries/cultures, but maybe even a completely different continent. That would be cool.
Would this mean no Alistair...? Nooooooh!!!!!

I can't reveal anything, of course. But even the end of the game says there are other stories to tell. Thedas is a big world, so both continuations and new directions are possibilities.
DLC's and expansions will be continuations.
DOA2 will be a new direction.

If you want more of the DA:O Warden, DLCs and expansion exist to fill that inche.

What if the sequel was about Morrigan's child? This assumes that someone layed with Morrigan before the final battle and the Archdemon's spirit went into the child.
Precisely why that won't be it.

Nothing says that Bioware can't establish a "canon" ending from the first game to the sequel, assuming that the dark pact happened.
I'm quite sure that morrigan's son/daughter will be either the hero or the villain of a future DA game.
Myself, I'm more leaning towards the hero.

Aside from common sense and a desire not to ****** off a significant portion of your fanbase. Just cause you like it doesn't make it feasible. Hey, I want the sequel to be all about how I murderraped the elves, it ain't gonna happen. I tell you this for the sake of your own future happiness.
of course, i can already see the masses rioting because they made it canon! Like no one ever did such a move in the gaming market.
Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's not feasible

What is the point of having these choices in the game if they are just going to tell you how you did it instead? Conversely, what if the DA2 just assumed you made the Heroic Sacrifice and forced you to make a new character.
It would be stupid. I don't mean to personally attack you, but it's a stupid idea. It would completely invalidate the way many people have chosen to play the game. Mind you, that's not me. I bang Morrigan everytime because I'm an arrogant self centered bastard. Nevertheless, it's beyond lame to give you a game all about changing the world with your choices, and then making a sequel where they ignore the choices you made. Can you really not see that?

Sequels are always disappointing and people get upset if their favourite characters are changed.

You have the choices in the game. They reflect in the game, and in it's expansion(s). It doesn't mean they will carry over to sequels. They already carry over to expansions, and that makes it very complex by itself. Having the choices of the game carry out in expansions and then carry out in sequels (with the possibility that some didn't play the expansion at all) would be plenty messy.
They will have to stop somewhere.
David Gaider already told in a past thread that making some outcomes canon for future games is not out of the question. If he doesn't consider it out of the question, I don't see why we should.

Not always. Simple example: Baldur's Gate 2. It was superior to Baldur's Gate, and guess who made it.

Well all I can say to that is know I shall be here to post a million whiny threads until I get banned if they start making things canon for DA2. It's just not necessary. If they can't make a sequel without invalidating the choices of the first one, that's pretty much capital letters FAIL without dispute, in my not humble at all opinion.
Suit yourself. I'm sure they'll be shattered by your reaction
Oh, and by the way, They already said that DA will be a "trilogy". "X"logy normally means X instances bound with by more than the same world.
As a matter of fact, I disagree it'd be "FAIL", so it's not "without dispute". <_<

It was never intended to be like Mass Effect, where your main character goes through all 3 games.
