If you read the quote you are referencing more closely, you'll state they also planned for them to be non-contiguous and not feature the same lead character.

In fact Morrigan's son is not the "same lead character" and for him/her to be grown up enough to be the hero/villain, it'll take quite enough time not to be "contiguous".

Well all I can say to that is know I shall be here to post a million whiny threads until I get banned if they start making things canon for DA2. It's just not necessary. If they can't make a sequel without invalidating the choices of the first one, that's pretty much capital letters FAIL without dispute, in my not humble at all opinion.

Suit yourself. I'm sure they'll be shattered by your reaction :wizard:

Oh, and by the way, They already said that DA will be a "trilogy". "X"logy normally means X instances bound with by more than the same world.

As a matter of fact, I disagree it'd be "FAIL", so it's not "without dispute". <_<

You missed the  "in my opinion" following "without dispute". So, you see, you can dispute it, but it's still indisputable. See what I did there?

That is your opinion. Stating it as fact doesn't make it so.

Except when it does. Really, this battle of wits should end. You're not going to "win" because I don't give a sh*t and we're both just speculating out of our bums about a game that's a few years off at best.

(but I'm still right)

...clearly I need more smilies or something. Do they not have humor jokes on your strange planet, Abriael?

I'd actually prefer if it was unrelated to origins - at least to the Darkspawn/ Grey Warden angle. Maybe a more personal type of quest rather than the saving the world from unspeakable evil kind of thing. Something that gives you a bit more moral flexibility on how you like to play it.

I don't need to "win" anything. You're saying that making a choice canon is out of the question. A developer already said that it isn't. I'm simply letting you know. <_<

Right, and I said it was still stupid and you proceeded to inform me that was just my opinion, even though I had already said it was just my opinion. And I mean... do you really need to tell me it's just my opinion? Is it really realistic to assume I don't know my own opinions when I state them? Then I tried to diffuse the situation with jokes you didn't get. That brings us up to nowish.

Lol, internet fights.

I personally hope we're given an option to have a direct continuation, a la Awakenings and ME2. I am very attached to my character. :)

Eh? It wouldn't really be a DA game, then. But I do like the idea of giving the player a personal quest, seeing as all your other companions got personal quests.

Why is it either or?

Both could (given that DA is profitable for BioWare) happen. Dragon Age and Mass Effect are now the established franchises BW owns, why not a continuation for DA:O on top of a non-related sequel, continuity wise? If anything, those creative and imaginative folks at BW can make both options happen, and likely please most of us, anyway. :)

Well, It can still take place in the DA universe. It's just(imo) that the big good vs evil thing gets a little cliché. I'd like a tale that leaves room for a little more moral ambiguity I guess.

If you refuse Morrigan's ritual then she seduces Riordan and your PC/Alistair/Loghan still dies because they aren't the baby's father or because Riordan is already dead when the Archdemon is murderknifed. Inconsistency solved.

Deux ex machina win.

Except you don't need to be the father to stay alive. Female wardens can live if they ask Alistair or Loghain to do it then slay the Archdemon themselves.

Then PC/Alistair/Loghan still dies because the father (Riordan) was dead before the Archdemon got murderknifed. Or something like that. I'm sure a writer could come up with something. The point is that Morrigan's ritual is too good of a loose end to ignore because some people chose a suicide run.

There are way too many sequel hooks for the story to jump forward a couple hundred years. I would be kinda disappointed if it went that way. The ending had me all interested in what would happen with The Warden / Alistair / Morrigan / and the others in the future, so I'm emotionally invested. Other than the obvious Dark Promise, there's also Sten implying that the Qunari are planning something big.

Additionally, the whole reason it's called Dragon Age, is because according to the Chantry, it's prophesied to be a time of strife and bloodshed. That sounds pretty damn interesting. Why the hell would I want to play in a future when that time has passed and everything is A-OK? Sure, a place where all the trains run on time and there's very little violence or danger sounds like a nice place to live, but it's not exactly a place that I want to play video games in.

I would be down for a non-direct sequel. The first game did a great job of tying up the PC's adventures (for the most part anyway) and closing that story. And because the endings for this game are far more varied than, say, they were in Mass Effect, it would be a nightmare to make a game that incorporates every single choice. BioWare would then be forced to declare some sort of canon, causing everyone who didn't play the game that way to cry foul. But by changing the setting or having a time skip, you can allude to generalities in the first game without having to go into specifics. And of course, in 25 or 30 years, certain details would likely have been fudged or forgotten completely, so any discrepancies between the canon and your personal game can be attributed to bad memory or faulty information.

I don't see why a sequel wouldn't be several times better than DA:O. There would be absolutely no reason to spend time re-introducing us to Thedas, so more time could be spent on creating characters and scenarios that would be just jaw-droppingly awesome.

The first expansion is still months away and you guys are arguing over the setting of the sequel? A bit premature, don't you think?

Id kind of like to see some sort of involment of my character in DA:O in DA2 maybe a son, daughter or relative you know. I hate to invest the kind of time it takes to develop a toons personality then just drop it when the next installment comes out, that what was so nice about ME 2 I was able to keep playing my Shep from ME 1

Yes, devs have said it on the forums that DA 2 will likely not be in Ferelden or even deal with Blight.

Broadening the scope of the game to include more than one country would be great, and continuing with the same lead character would be, for obvious spoilery reasons, a bit problematic for this game.

But I'll be pretty PO'd if all the fuss over Morrigan's baby was a big build up to nothing. That is a question that I'll expect the sequel to answer for sure.

I'm pretty glad about that, actually. While I loved individual places in Ferelden, I felt very little connection to the country or culture itself. I played as a Male Human Noble, and I didn't feel the least bit patriotic, despite being a member of one of the most prominent families of the country's nobility. All I could think of was how awesome it would be to go to Tevinter or Seheron and Par Vollen.

I've got my fingers crossed.

I'm pretty sure Morrigan is going to get that Old God soul one way or another. Her motivations are murky at best, power-hungry at worst, but what's undeniable is that she is a woman who is willing to do whatever it takes to acheive her goals.
