Great, I hope that they do this. There's so much else going on in the world I'm sure that there's plenty of other great stories to tell without doing a direct sequel. It's also a great way to avoid many of the problems you can run into with direct sequels for games with such open endings.

I mean, had Deus Ex done this things would have gone much better for the series.

It would be pretty cool (if your character survived) to see your old character as an old man/woman or somthing

Sounds fine to me as well. I'd actually like to see a sequel deal with other areas in the Dragon Age world. Not only other countries/cultures, but maybe even a completely different continent. That would be cool.

I totally agree with Eurypterid....new areas of Thedas and different cultures/countries would be interesting as long as they keep the gameplay and storylines as good as, or better than DAO....then I'm sold with any Dragon Age 2 and beyond.....:)

i think a game that takes place 25 years later or so would be nice. by that time, it would be about time for your pc and alistair to leave for the deep roads for their calling. the other npcs except shale are now a lot older and would not be part of the story really except for cameos or something. you could create a new pc and have new npcs, but it's the next generation of heroes, either grey warden or not.queen anora is running things since whether you had alistair and anora marry or not alistair's calling is upon him. i think it would be nice since you could stay within the dragon age for one more game and get away from most if not all the npcs(maybe shale makes a return?). this would allow for a game not so attached to the first, but with enough of a link to give some continuity.

That actually sounds like a good idea... but I'm fine either way and I totally wouldn't mind building off of the current DA:O with expansion packs with the current Warden and characters/NPCs. So if there does happen to be a sequel, I'd really like for it to be in a new time/place/setting where your Warden and Alistair, along with anyone else, have aged and know that their time in the Deep Roads is upon them; thus, starting a new story with a new PC. But like I said, I'm content with expanding the current DA:O universe... (and providing details toward the sequel is great too).

that's fine with me so long as they don't stray to far from the story or show some sort of ending to the dragon age

They could do a whole set of games around what is going on in other countries during the Dragon Age, too. If Awakenings is in Orlais, there could be a prequel (perhaps exploring the Cailan/Empress situation) or a sequel set there. At some point the Qun are supposed to invade (according to Sten), so that would be another option.

I'm perfectly fine with DA2 not being a direct sequel.

I think it would be pretty interesting to play as a Tevinter character and see the war between the Imperium and the Qunari.

The Tevinter are always shown as the bad guys, and I think it would be fun to play as one.

Not only do I not want DA2 to be a sequel to DAO, but I would also like for it to take place in another land. There is too much lore in this game for us not to somehow experience other nations. Anderfels, Nevarra, Orlais, and the Tiventer Imperium some of the places I would love to adventure in.

I'd also like to discover the truth of the Old Gods, the tale of the Maker and the Black City and the origin of the darkspawn corruption. I get the impression that some of what the Chantry says is myth mixed with some fact. Can't wait for more DA games. :)

pretty sure the next one will deal with flemeths noble-warden-demon-bastard son trying (or succeeding) to take the throne it will most likely deal with the next generation maybe 20-30-40 years down the road.

Well I want a direct sequel even if nobody else does. There's nothing to say that a warden can ONLY fight darkspawn, and depending on how you ended Origins it makes sense. Starting with your character from origins could at least have it's own starting level(s) in the sequal, alongside all the class/race starting levels. And I think BG2 showed that you don't need to start with a level 1.
Besides, in my epilogue it said something like "this isn't the last that will be heard of [name]", so I'll be disappointed if my origins character isn't in some way (preferably directly) involved in the sequel, and hopefully the party member I said I'd travel with.
As for all the ideas about what/where the story should be, I have no particular opinion about that, but the epilogue also talked about the darkspawn warbands that formed after the fight at denerim that where apperently very hard to kill spreading all over the place, and it would've been much easier just to say that they where all killed, or that stragglers fled underground, so maybe that's a hint about the sequel. That's how mine ended anyway.

i'd really like to take my warden through his whole life, up until the calling starts. but that could be done with expansions, and other stories could be told in the sequel.

i want to see how things end up with Leliana and my character and their travels.

Same here. I'm kind of tired of the Darkspawn already. There is so much potential in having the Tevintar Imperium and Qunari into the next game.

After reading some interviews with Bioware I'm getting the impression that a Dragon Age 2 may not be a direct sequel to DAO. Statements like "Dragon Age is a timeline" makes me think that Bioware will create games telling of major events in Thedas during the "Dragon Age". In DAO we had the Blight, in a Dragon Age 2 maybe the story will tell of another major event hundreds of years in the future or even the past.
The story of DAO may continue in expansions and DLC but I believe the Dragon Age-series will move on to tell of other heroes in other times during the Dragon Age.

I'd rather have a game set in a different time where you are playing someone new rather than a direct sequel where they don't bring your old companions with you.

I'd prefer a direct sequel, sure... however... at least with a completely different period I can't be dissappointed when my companions didn't follow me into two.

I hope DA2 will at least have a compelling story. I mean in all honesty, Dragon Age: Origins has interesting characters, an interesting albeit small world, fun battle system, but no real epic story. You basically stumble through the game running the script you get when entering Lothering. There's no surprises, no plot twists. You get a "go here -> beat boss -> obtain ally -> rinse and repeat" quest with the ultimate goal of beating the Archdemon and ending the blight. Nothing epic about that. So disappointing.

I'd like the next story to "surprise" me and reel me in while playing. They should also work on the battle system animation. It's built solely for blades. Using axes, mauls, maces and the like will make you look like a moron. Seriously you don't use a mace or an axe as a stabbing weapon.

I found there to be surprises in the story -- albeit connected to the characters and their reactions to certain events.

Also, given that the expansion to DA:O is not going to take too many of your choices into account apparently, I'd be downright shocked if DA2 were a direct sequel.

I DO want it to be a direct sequel. The whole thing with Morrigan's baby is too huge a thread to leave unraveled. And also the only way I'm content with potentially not having her back in Awakening is that it could be even better in a whole new game as opposed to an expansion.

It would be super lame to skip so far in the future and have to start from scratch when we've already gotten attached to the current characters (just speaking for myself here; YMMV).

I definitely want a direct sequel.  I really kind of expect it.  Otherwise, why call it Origins and not The Blight.  Origins certainly implies the next installation a continuation of events experienced by our characters.  I want to travel with Sten to the Qunari lands or Leliana to Orlais.  I want to seek Morrigan out to see what has become of her, (Morrigan, Flemeth, and the revival of the "old gods" seems to make for the most compelling story for a major sequel.)  And if the designers opt for a prequel, will it be DA: Origins Origins?  That would seem kind of lame.

Yep, pretty much along the lines I'm thinking.  "The Fifth Blight" would have been a crappy title anyway.   "Origins"  does reasonably lend itself to think direct sequel or at least within the lifespan of your Warden.  It seems to me the most probable route for the sequel(s).  I do believe we'll "use up" Ferelden in DLC over the next year or more, so I would speculate that we'll be on a World Tour in future installments, but I'd be good with that.  After all, my Warden just happens to know people from many of these lands, to include a swamp witch heading West who bears his child with the "essence" of something he doesn't pretend to understand, and a Blight that is proving itself incredibly difficult to end, with intelligence emerging in it's midst.

As far a where the story goes, I'm thinking now for a small part of it (knowing very little of the big picture and still wading neck deep in a pool of literary ambiguity), that the Architect and Morrigan (real agenda dependent-I'll assume the best for now due to her emotional struggle) are probably not going to be big pals...oh, and she happens to have a crazy demon possessed mother who shapeshifts into dragons, that many have slayed, but is not actually dead.  I'm thinking that ring may yet have something to say again .Image IPB

Count me among those wanting a direct sequel.
