For me it's the one assignment where you board a ship full of husks inside a maze-like location, and the husks just suddenly pops up and scare the **** out of me ---- I went through the maze, killed a dozen of husks, got to the place where you hear the recordings, and on the way out - got scared the **** out of --- when I met a group of husks which I thought I've killed as they popped out of no where...  :pinched:

(I was playing as an adept on Insanity...)

I'd have to give that credit to Yaroslav Tartikofsky (spelling?) getting impaled by the rachni on Noveria.  Made worse by the fact that you can see the bug come up behind him, and you're powerless to kill the beast before it splatters poor Yaroslav's guts all over the floor.  :pinched:

Rachni in general were not pleasant for me, given their habit of crawling silently out of the ventilation grates.  You go through what you thought was an abandoned room and WHAM, you're up close and personal with an acid-spewing demon bug.  It's even worse given that most of those encounters take place in small, confined rooms where there's no way to line up a proper shot before the bug takes your face off.  (In fact, rachni were the sole reason I added an assault rifle to my Shep's talents on New Game Plus - I wanted something bigger than a pistol to back up my sniper rifle.)

Yeah, the Rachni popping up out of the vents on Noveria would probably have to win that award. Although, given that the Rachni and the whole Noveria mission was clearly inspired by Aliens, I should have been expecting it. XD

Haha.. Sorry I had to laugh. I would agree with the Rachni jumping out probably being the "scariest" part of the game. And Zax, even if you were expecting, that still doesn't mean can't jump at it.

The Rachi assassinating the Russian dude would have been much scarier if the audio didn't glitch up when he is impaled.

For me, it's probably the final battle of the game where everything has gone to hell.

When you first meet the Thorian Creeper at the garage door of Zhu's Hope.

Those moans are the stuff of nightmares.

Yeah, the Feros mission was well done. Right away you realise something's not quite right and the colonists are hiding something. It's like the Wicker Man. With robots and explosions.

It's not scary as in making me jump, but scary as in, if I was there and saw it, I would be terrified:

Sovereign entering Citadel airspace with a fleet of Geth following during the final battle, just before attaching itself to it.

Should've gone with shotguns, they massacre rachni.

Also, Husk ship. Goddamn Husk ship!

Why? I would feel excited about it. Or did your little brother or a BBW stomp on it before you open it? :P

The Rachni on Noveria were really scary for me too. That maze quest on the derelict ship was also pretty creepy. However, when Sovereign took over Saren in the final battle, the way his body was jerking and contorting, and then when it suddenly looked at me ... that really freaked me out the first time around. My first thought was, "I'm in trouble!"

My scariest moment on mass effect was the VERY FIRST time i was driving my mako calm and quiet on a small planet enjoyin the serenity of the moment when all of a sudden A-GIANT-MONSTER-WORM-BEAST JUMPED OUT OF THE GROUND AT POINT BLANK RANGE!

That, and the first time i ever heard one of those creepy monster-moans in the ambience on some of the planets. They dont go to any creatures, they just moan. And when your RIGHT THERE, they are the loudest ambient noise. Sounds kindov like your being charged from behind by a silt-strider from morrowind.

I had the exact same reaction. And for the first game, every Thresher Maw was a horrible experience. Then I learned about making the Mako jump. Then we were cool, with the spitting thing and the jumping thing and the maw dying thing.

Did you try Perseus Mandate? That one kept me jumping. But to answer the OP's question however, the scariest moments for me was the Rachni constantly popping up, definitely made me love my shotgun that's for darn sure!

I'd say the scariest part is when Shepard is staring down the Rachni queen, and the dead Asari gets up behind him. Yikes.
