Isn't that just her dialogue looping?

Yes, but one still gets the feel that it's a new line of dialogue.
The "it was totally worth it" was fun, but a little bit disappointing after having saved the galaxy. Something like "I'm happy we got out of this together" would have been more... uhm, logical?

I think the interest IN Tali is an "OMG NERD GIRL" crush, if that counts.

As others have said: Crushes fade after two years. And it's not like she hasn't already met and worked with some studly Quarian men who would catch a girl's eye.

She truly just wants Shep.

Not really, at least in my case.

I find her an awful lot more interesting than super-bimbo with daddy issues. Jack is alright in my book.

One person's 'crush' is another's Love at first sight.

If it were just a crush, she wouldn't have held onto those for the two years you were gone. She wouldn't have wrote about missing you in her logs, etc, etc.

Even Kaidan/Ash moved on after just a year.

She did?

On Haestrom, in the room that you need the explosives to enter, there's a journal log from Tali that's fairly easy to miss (it's the same room in which you talk to her for the first time on the planet, and get her to unlock the door for you).  In it, she mentions the problem with the sun and that the Quarian ancestors used to be able to walk around that planet with their heads uncovered (i.e. no problems with solar radiation like there is now).  She mentions that she wishes she could show the planet to her friends, and then suddenly adds in, "I wish Shepard were here."

Of course, that's well after she meets you on Freedom's Progress.  So at that point she already knows that you're alive.

Earlier in that same mission, we get the 'What Would Shepard Do?' (WWSD) journal log.

Image IPB

As far as the two years is concerned - she probably mourned him and missed him when she believed he was dead.  She displays a trace of hero worship toward him during the second game, and her romance dialogue helps to explain why (although it focuses on the second game).  In the first game...

 - Shepard saves her life from Saren's assassins.
 - Treats her with respect by making her a valued member of his/her team (while individual players may have felt otherwise toward her, the game doesn't really let you mistreat her; and little blurbs during the game make it clear that she's effectively the second in command in the Engineering Department).  This is particularly critical given the general galactic opinion toward Quarians (displayed quite nicely in ME2 during the Citadel incident with the Quarian who isn't a pickpocket; Tali gets pretty pissed off if she's present during that, btw...  it's the single biggest set of "additional conversations depending on who's in your party" that I've seen for any one character).
 - Helps her develop a positive reputation as one of the people who helped save the Galaxy from Saren.

So two years passed, she missed her old commander who recognized her skill and helped make her what she was, and she got more heavily involved in helping her people.  Her abilities are clearly recognized among the Quarian leadership given the missions that she's sent on.  And pretty much everything she's earned was due to what happened when she was with Shepard - something that she probably frequently reminds herself of.

Given all of that, it'd be surprising if she didn't feel anything at all for Shepard.  Given the way that Quarian culture works, she'd probably also love to link suits with femshep - albiet in a strictly platonic fashion.

Image IPB

(which, by the way, shouldn't be completely surprising - the recused Admiral mentions linking suits with Tali's mother when Tali was born, so it's understood to be something that's done between close friends and not just lovers)

I would hazard a guess that if maleshep doesn't sweep her off her feet, then Kal'Reegar will end up doing it (assuming he survives).  There's definitely something going on between the two of them.  It hasn't reached critical mass yet, but Kal's comments before and after the trial coupled with Tali's concerns for Kal (she specifically asks you to protect HIM when you first talk to her on Haestrom; there's also the "Call me Tali, Kal."  "Whatever you say, Ma'am." dialogue when talking to Kal during Tali's loyalty quest.) appear to be worth noting.

I tried to let him die in my pure Renegade run... even choosing the option that makes him keep fighting let him survive, unless I find something out during Tali's loyalty mission or something.

I think it's either a time based thing (i.e. he automatically dies if the fight runs too long) or it's a random "fire the missile at the same time the Colossus shoots" thing that insta-kills him due to damage from the hit (suggesting that if the other Geth can reach him they can kill him too).  I had him die during my first playthrough.

He'll say something about getting the attention of the Geth.

Interesting question reposted because the OP didn't understand that using ellipses in a thread title was pointless, so he deleted the entire first post because he didn't understand the fact.

Anyways, does Tali seem like a crush to you?

No. I think she's liked Shepard from the beginning, as she says, which is 2 years.

Also, 99% certainty that she was a virgin and gave that up to Shep, so... crush?

I sure hope not o.o

Would say considering for all she knows Shepard is dead *and* it's not like she really knows him that close as a person, it's sort of infatuation that feels rather creepy and sad. An obsession with ideal she develops in her mind, not the real person; and she rejects forming regular relationship because of it.

Can see how it'd be right up the audience's alley, though.

Don't think a crush would last for two years after her crush's alleged death.

Yup.  Crushs tend to move on after a little while - they start intense but quickly fade.

And she doesn't appear to have been holding out hope that you survived, as she's clearly shocked to see you on Freedom's Progress (the game forces you to prove that you're you).

I would guess that most of the "crush" idea comes from Tali's generally flustered state whenever she starts talking about her relationship with you.  But I would argue that has more to do with the lousy way that the galaxy treats Quarians in general, and the way that attitude has affected her.

That's why the scene with the Quarian in the Citadel is such a good one - it does a perfect job of illustrating how badly most of the galaxy perceives Quarians.  You've got a Quarian falsely accused of pickpocketing merely because she happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and then once you clear her name you then have to deal with a C-Sec officer who starts looking for new reasons to write her up more or less "just because".  Meanwhile, she's reduced to living at the local Turian shelter and eating "paste" (evidently some form of cheap food, and not the classroom glue).

The correct answer to this thread, as revealed by tali in ME2, is that she had a crush on shep in ME1. OBVIOUSLY that changed to something a bit more once shep confesses his love for her.

actually the exact quote is

"I watched your face as lt alenko died on Virmire, I watched you stand strong agaisnt everything the galaxy threw at you, I watched you for so long, and I never imagined you'd see past.....this"

Heck, that line alone makes the romance far deeper than most of the others. Jack's has some substance to it, as well.

Wait, where/when was that line spoken? I missed it somehow :o

When Tali says that being with you could "jeopardize the mission", choose the option along the lines of "And if there were no mission?"

Crushes seldom last for two years and the DEATH of the object of infatuation.

If its a work of fiction, and the crush-er has been rescued by the crush-ee no less than three times, then I'm pretty sure it's a solid grounds for a relationship.

The TRUE romances are in ME2, like someone said, Tali has stayed true and waited on Shepard for 2 years, whereas Ashley/Kaiden have moved on, no trouble. Liara is a different case, but Tali is the only one willing to give up a lot of her lifestyle for Shepard, hence it is love

Bingo.
