So... what happens if Loghain is in your party at Ostager when you come back? I had Wynne and Alistair and it was pretty cool but I don't have the time to do a second game and get there right now.

So?

Well the survivor says Cailian knew it would be impossible to win Ostagar. Loghain tells the survivor its not his fault about what happened. Wynne and him argue the whole time. He also says if he had the chance to do it again he would since he believes he made the right choice saving his men. He is also VERY pissed off when he finds the letters that were being exchanged between the empress and cailian. He gets extremely angry if you leave cailian's body hung up there. He also gets mad if you burn it. He wants it given to the wolves since he believes Cailian commited treason judging by the letters.

Most importantly:
Loghain calls the orlesian empress a **** (female canine) at which dog, if in the party, gets offended and growls at him.

Question, was Maric's sword red steel for other people as well? I've read the novel and I find it odd that his Dragonbone sword was not Dragonbone in the game. Note I am at an end game save so its not a level thing.

Wonder if the storage chest in Warden's Keep will upgrade it like it does the Warden armor.

Yes, others have commented on the material as well.
And apparently it can be upgraded.

Can you upgrade it using the chest or the merchant in Soldier's Peak DLC?

Yep. I sold all of Cailan's armor and Maric's sword to the smith, then got it back as dragonbone.

Interesting discussion. It really looks like the dead King was a fool to have been so overconfident and to have even been in the battle at that point. And speaking of chests, what about the locked Mages chest that you need a key for. Guess what... my PC has/had the key and emptied the chest. To make matters worse the Darkspawn are really morons for leaving locked chests laying around. Surely they would have some means to smashing them open and emptying the contents? I would have at least thrown them off a cliff. :)

You have to take what the survivor says with a grain of salt. He was a deserter who got caught by the bann and thrown in the dungeon.Loghain of course is going to say it is not his fault. If Loghain had said it was the survuvor's fault he would also be pointing the finger at himself.

The srvivor could only see his portion of the battlefield, he did not know how well the rest of the battle was going. Since he was Cailan's trusted guard did he leave before or during the battle? Otherwise he should have been with Cailan during the battle.

Yep, you definitely have to take what he says with a grain of salt.  Choose different responses to him and he'll call Loghain a traitor and declare that he didn't desert until he saw Loghain's men leave the field and that he knew the battle would then be lost.

I think there are holes in the story. Some of it makes sense and some of it doesn't. Secret plans/documents should have been hidden and not left locked in a chest that the Darkspawn would smash open and discover. And again, why was the Mage chest filled and locked when at least this PC left it unlocked and empty? Another serious thing I don't understand is just when the PC and Alistair are taking off for the tower its top looks like it gets a direct hit and is destroyed. To me the battle plans were falling apart before the battle gets started. Yet they take off for the tower like nothing happened. Oh well, I don't play these games to make this much sense out of everything.

Not to be pedantic or anything, but what makes you think Darkspawn can smash open chests  in this game?

Your PC warrior certainly can't, regardless of his strength.

Not that it really matters.  Darkspawn don't strike me as all that Politically keen.  I doubt they really care about any corrispondance letters between Caelin and the Emperess of Orlais.  Granted, they'd probably *eat* those letters if they found them.  Good thing there are more filling meals for them  to have  at Ostagar, yes?

WAIIIIT! the warden's keep quest upgrades the warden armor?  Mine didn't upgrade and Duncan's and Maroc's stuff remained red steel. Which to be honest I found a bit weird considering who they were. Additionally Duncan's weapons were Darkspawn bane therefore I found it funny that you get them from the ogre.

I also found RTO disappointing in that it was relatively easy compared to Warden's keep, or maybe vice versa considering the loot was better in RTO. Debating though whether or not to go through the end battle again as I had to restore prior to it to do RTO.

Hmmm...probably an oversight on their part.  They probably should have made his sword Dragonbone non-upgradeable lol.

Return to Ostagar is worth it..when you have Loghain and Wynne in the same party. The things that happen and the banter between them is very interesting and tells a lot about Loghain's character. I personally liked it a lot. Of course in my real game, I went with Alistair the whole way through but I just played RTO with Loghain to see what would happen. Trust me, it's worth it. The things he says about Cailan are very very interesting.

If Darkspawn were that stupid or had no direction they wouldn't be able to organize an army, a war, armor and weapons, etc.  Think about it.  You're right though about no one in the game being able to bash open or use magic to open a chest--only a key.  Frankly this is a dumb oversight on BioWare's part and historically RPG has always had these several ways of opening chests.  Heck they could have made a cool quest searching for where the documents were hidden--but no...just take the key and walk over and open the chest.

Let's see, it's OK to abandon your sworn Liege on the battlefield, but it's not OK for the Head of State to forge Alliances with whomever the f*** he pleases? Didn't someone, somewhere, once say, "It's good to be the King"? Talk about epic fail.

I don't think Loghain says anything about treason. He gives his reasons for objecting to the pyre in a fairly sarcastic way, so it's hard to work out precisely what they are. At a guess: that Cailan wasn't a good king and doesn't deserve special treatment.

Red up (pun intended) on it, the weapons from RTO are levelled, since I'm already lev 21 at this point am not sure what level you need to be to get the weapons to become dragonbone.
