I'm thinking of stealing 2 for my solider Shep.  What are the best?  Is Zaeed's grenade thing worthless?

i like tungston armor piercing rounds for its dame and dual purpose it allows me to forgo inferno rounds for full adrenaline burst, con shot, disrupter rounds, shocktrooper. Or improved geth shields for the damage boost it gives along with additional shieldage only problem for me is one the recharge time and two since im soldier i use cover effectivally so im realy only using it for the damage bonus then for anything else.

Depends on the class you're playing I guess. Reave is probably not worthwhile for a soldier but might work well with other classes (took it with my sentinel).

As an Infiltrator, I tended to like Legion's and Jacob's. That added damage soaking while exposed helped tremendously.

Inferno grenade totally blows, don't get it. I maxed it out on my soldier and it suck. I like fortification and barrier. Those two are useful for any class.

yeah not a fan of the loyalty powers for the most part from a soldier point of view. really wish the krogan loyalty power was their charge or something. I like slam but as a soldier i didnt use it much kept miranda on my team so she would use it. and most of the other powers just seem useless or really redundant for some classes. The only reason i advocate garrus's loyalty power is like i said it removes 90% of the need for inferno rounds thus allowing to to focus on other soldier abilities.

if shockwave was a loyalty power id be all over it let me tell you what lol. for a soldier i really think garrus's or legion's is your best bet. Go tungston rounds for garrus's and improved geth shield for legion's that way you can get great damage bonuses for your soldier

I like Zaeed's grenade and Barrier. But I haven't played with the others much.

Love Barrier because as an infiltrator I can be exposed just a little longer when combined with the cloak. Get a second boom-headshot.

Overall the best one for most characters is armor piercing bullets.

However, it really dpends on your class. You can never go wrong with armor piercing, however.

Ditto on the shockwave. The biggest problem with being a soldier is when you got mobbed by husks. I'm surprised no one mentioned Warp ammo (Jack's power).

also depends on your play style to like i said if you use cover alot and make use of your adrenaline rush as a soldier you can easily forgo using a shield power and focus on something else. at the same time if you like rushing forward and pistol whip everyone you see then your prolly gonna want a shield and when it comes to shield geth is probally the best for the +damage and the deffense

I don't know about on insanity, where everyone and their mom is temporarily immune to biotics, but if you're playing at a lower level, slam is awesome. I think I like it better than reave. The cooldown on it is what makes it so nice.

The combo of Disruptor and Tungsten ammo on the Widow as an Infiltrator is tough to top. Geth Shield Boost would be my #2 choice.

warp ammo is good but as a soldier disrupter ammo and inferno ammo take care of that issue plus they have higher damage % then warp does i think warp is only 50% of weapon damage where as the other two are 60% and do aditional status effects. Which like i said if your a soldier and your going to take an ammo power I really feel armor piercing is your best bet as it is 70% weapon damage to armor and health it can easily replace inferno rounds allowing you to focus on other powers. my current build for my soldier is this

Heightened Adrenaline rush 4
Heavy concussive shot 4
Heavy Disruptor Ammo 4
incendiary Ammo 1
Cryo Ammo 0
Shock Trooper 4
Tungsten Ammo 4

Thrid play through so far and likeing it alot I used to have the geth shield but I wasnt really using it all unless I needed a damage boost and was getting upset cause I had to wait longer then i was used to just to fire off my adrenaline rush power

I think reave is the best one..... for me anyways as I play sentinel and dont shoot that much. It really depends on your play style.

another question, do you move up to the same rank as the person you inherited it from?

AP ammo for infiltrator, barrier for vanguard, shredder ammo for soldier and warp ammo for sentinel. ..are what i've chosen, and found useful.

most of the actual ability powers i feel are way better in the hands of the actual character who has them rather then your shepard aside from the ammo's. example is moridin his shock power is insane when he uses it where as when i tried it is was very ....floppy to say the least. and when miranda uses her slam things die when i use slam most of them just look at me and shrug.

This is a nice build - I find I'm very torn between Tungsten and GSB since GSB really can save your butt while Tungsten ammo is just all around godly. I'm more of a glass cannon player so I'm generally Commando instead of Shock Trooper, though honestly the weapon % difference is probably negligible.

Might try that build out - thanks for posting it. Just started my soldier insanity playthrough too, though I picked GSB for now.

Though do you find Disruptor at max rank to be worth it when you have Tungsten at max too? I guess the trade-off that Rank 4 Disruptor [which is it, heavy rounds?] could insta-gib a mech is worth it. Does that actually happen against a YMIR heavy? >.>
