Count me as one of many who miss the elevators as well. I think the only ones who complained about them were Xbox 360 owners because they're more of an instant gratification gamer than PC gamers. But that is just my opinion.
I play on 360, so that's not true for me. But probably just shooter fans got mad at elevators.

one of the major complaints of ME1 was the elevator rides. in fact, it was one of the ways BW used to hide loading and immerse the player in the game. other ways were the scans when leaving/entering normand, as well as security scans to name a few. now that i experinced the new elternative in the way of loading screens that display the action taking place in wireframe or via mission compltet screens, i feel i prefere what ME1 offered in this regard since it kept you i the game. plus, it was a good way to listen to news and what your team mates have to say to each other (some conversations were funny and akward). ME1 felt to me more of an experince than a game, i wish BW just improved on their first concept.
what do you guys think? which loading system do you prefere?
I don't see why people complained about the Elevator scenes, they added some witty dialogue and didn't break immersion. However it's clear that Bioware listened. It's one of the many small things that contribute to ME2 not being as good as ME1 in my opinion.

most console fans have an attention span of 2.7 seconds... so any tine they have to wat they will cry like a little girl who got her hair pulled... the downside is it ruins good games and makes them too short.... bring back elevators and add more side quests... random stumbling onto a quest while mining a planet is not nearly as fun as hearing about a terrorist on the radio on the elevator
I agree completely. Even though I play on 360, I want all that back.

Yes! I loved the MAKO. For people that complained about it, they could've just but an easier to control vehicle in. (Even though I thought it was easy to drive.) But planet exploration was a core feature of ME1 for me.

In ME2, all of those Noveria elevators rides would be long, dull, quiet loading screens.
Also, the character mission weren't part of the central story in ME1, so of course they weren't as deep.
That's a good point as well, I guess being spoiled to the awesome character driven missions of the 2nd one, then going back to the first one, then seeing that, I was like WTF.. haha..
Also if you had a Novaria type comparison in the 2nd one, ya know that's tough to say, only because I don't think I ever saw a mission that have had as many loading screens throughout the actual mission. If you naturally you wanna make a direct comparison of replacing elevator screnes for loading screens if that was the case.
Also, again this may be different for a lot of people, but those loading screens were super fast for me, way faster then it where for the elevator sequeneces. In the end though, I still believe there's a lot of nostalgia going around because everyone remembers the first game. (Which they rightfully should because it was a great game)
Seriously, if you can, go back and play the first game now like I'm doing. (it's still an enjoyable game), and then I guess you'll see what I mean about the differences and all.

Don't worry, we'll have a vehicle in the ME2 soon enough with its own missions to boot. Granted, it's a given, but not sure if anyone notice, in the options, there's actually keybinds there for your vehicle. So that's coming, my hope is very very soon, because if they wait more then a month, then I have a feeling some people will move on.

If it brings back planet exploration, I'm going to be one happy dude. However, the elevators/enviro scans will still be missing

Loved the conversations they had in ME1 during the elevators. It would be cool in Me3 if they brought it back.

ya, we will never hear this again "in other news..." and "Commanding officer is ashore. XO Pressley (or whoever) has the deck"...

Well not sure how much exploration there will be, but the missions should be story driven as that's the direction they seem to be going.
Also, may have to live the loading screens, because all signs point ME 3 using the same engine as ME 2, but naturally you never know I guess, so there's still time.

I've always thought that the elevators was a very clever idea to get rid of the loading screens and I am disappointed that this time they left it out. But a couple of years ago there were so many people in the forums whining about the elevators that I can't believe my eyes at the moment. Many people are now saying "bring back the elevators". Who would have thought that? Well, I suppose it's about time to start a new thread "bring back the Mako".
I'm all for it. I didn't complain about any of it.

many didnt understand the reasons behind being in an elevator, so they naturaly complained. if they knew it was hiding loading in the background they would have been more understanding.
others wanted it improved and they believed in BW ability to make it better.
what no one expected is for BW to remove it all together. now they tried the elternative, they (me included) wish elevators and other means of hiding loading stayed in ME2.

How could anyone not know what they were for? If that's true than those people are criminally retarded.
