On two separate ocasions I was scanning two different planets. And when I wanted to close the scanner, it didn't work. I pressed the Esc key repeatedly and nothing. The game was stuck in that screen.
The computer did't freeze, the keybord and mouse work perfectly. I can use Alt+Tab or Ctrl+Esc to go in and out of the game. The games music plays as allways. Everything is normal, except I can't leave that scanner screen.

The "MassEffect2.exe" process eats about 90-95 % of the CPU and 644MB of memory. But I think thats normal too.

Is there any knowen sollution? Besides a game restart? I know there is an autosave when you enter a system. But to have the game stop responding after 10-20 min of scanning planets ...:(

I've never had this specific thing happen to me, but I have had the ship freeze on me after exiting a planet (clicking somewhere to move does nothing). In that case, clicking on Enter Orbit and then going back fixes it.

Maybe in the stuck state you're in, you could try doing some more scanning, or launching a probe? That might unstick it.

Same bug here about 4-5 times, very annyoing. The scanning works normal (can launch probes etc), but its like the game does not register the esc button click.

Had to kill mass effect process and restart game each time it happened, what gives ?

I've noticed that you can get "stuck in orbit" after halting the scan of a planet if you hit the back arrow too fast after hitting ESC to exit scanning.  It will hang every time if you hit the back arrow before the text panel of the planet's info re-displays, but never hang if you just wait a second until all the text displays before hitting the back arrow.
Small, but anoying problem until you figure this out...

I've never had ME2 hang when trying to hit ESC to stop scanning a planet...

Seriously, this is starting to ruin this game for me. I've gotten into the habit of saving after every two probes and it's starting to grate on my nerves.

Quick Bump. Please, just make a "Exit" button to use your mouse on instead of relying solely on the Escape key.

I am having this problem on the Squad Status screen. The game has not crashed, as I can still bring up squad member info, but I cannot leave the screen either by clicking the Exit button or Esc.

For posterity's sake, I was facing the same problem. Resetting the key bindings ( I've altered mine, to resemble ME's control scheme) seems to make this bug go away

Looking through this thread, not one comment included any information about keyboard make, model, type, not about any other hardware that affects the game's interaction with the environment.  I don't know that this one is related to slow video feedback,  but it doesn't seem that anyone else (in this thread) knows that it is not related to it.

Happens to me too. The ESC key is completely functional and no other keys are stuck. Definately a bug in the game that they need to patch.

Same here. Lame that there isn't a button. Also lame is that escape twice will bring you out of the whole galaxy map instead of just back to flying around view. But ESC not registering is a game breaker at the moment :(

Acctualy i think youre quite wrong that its a hardware issue.i have several times experienced this bug and that on 2 different computers. With very different setups.

New computer:
OS: WIndows Vista 64Bit Home Premium Service Pack 1
Cpu: Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E6300
Memory: 4094MB RAM
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series
Sound Card: ASUS Xonar DS Audio
Input devices: Logitech S520 w/mouse

Old Computer:
OS: WIndows XP Professional Service Pack 3
Cpu: Intel Pentium D 925
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX 640MB
Sound Card: Creative SoundBlaster Audigy SE
Input devices: Logitech MX3200 /w mouse

Very different setup yet the same bugs, and resolutions and all is lower on this computer ofc.

Pretty simple, logical problem here. If it were a software bug it would affect the majority of users. It doesn't.

So where is the connection with the 2 computers? dosent even run same os, graphic card brand, not even the same input devices even tho they have same provider. If those configurations get the same hardware bug. A majority of the players would also get the bug. So no. i think it have something to do with a certain trigger in the software... as an example: The bug triggers if you scan the planet and pick up a certain recource. If it is a hardware issue. then tell me please what hardware that would be.
