Introduction

For those of you who have sincerely tried to get the attention of EA in regard to a problem you were having with one of their products, but were ultimately let down, ignored, and your problem forgotten, this topic is for you. The purpose of this topic is to raise awareness for a specific account-linking mistake often made by gamers on EA.com when linking a gamertag to their EA account. If anyone has a solution to the problems below, please share them. EA customer service makes Xbox customer service look like Apple tech support. I'm not joking. EA customer service tries once to resolve your issue, and by "try" I mean copy and paste an automated response into the reply box. So of course the problem doesn't get solved. The worst part though is that any attempt to contact EA customer service in the future about your problem will result in a service rep labeling your case "Unresolved" and it's pretty much hopeless from then on.

My Experience

After tirelessly contacting EA customer support about 4 times over a 2 week period, I eventually ended up with less hope and more problems. I threatened to contact managers, as well as the Better Business Bureau and EA finally decided to give me some attention. They even managed to fix the problem but ironically created another one in the process. So of course I contact them again and foolishly thought they'd be willing to help me... due to the fact that this problem was of their own making. Apparantly, EA customer service isn't responsible for fixing account issues inflicted by themselves. Only everyone else. They screwed up my account by removing my old Xbox Live account (as instructed), and adding my new Xbox Live account (as instructed).... except with mispelled characters! I repeatedly gave them clear and precise instructions regarding my new Xbox Live Account, and they still screwed it up royally.

So finally after bugging them for 11 days straight, one merciful customer service rep was just willing to fix everything for me. He added my correct Xbox Live account. And all seemed well... until my Social Bioware Network profile stopped updating graphics for characters. And now the Social Bioware Network thinks my EA ID??? is my default persona here on the site. Despite changing my default persona from my EA ID to my Xbox Live account (on EA.com), the problem still remains. Once again, I am sick and tired of begging EA for help. If they really couldn't fix it, I would accept that for the time being. But they can, I saw the extent of what they can do when a forum moderator helped me out. EA's bizzare account linking process has left tens of thousands of gamers upset and frustrated. I know Social Bioware Network is new and has bugs, and that's fine. But to put so much effort into resolving an issue that could be fixed in a matter of moments seems like a waste of precious time. That's fine if they want to prevent gamertag changes. Just keep the possibility open in case someone needs to fix a problem with their account (f*cking inevitable, people).

Proper Account-Linking

I respect Bioware and EA Games as a collective whole, and even as individual game companies. But when customers who spend alot of money on your products are in a legitimate situation that calls for EA customer service, we expect you to answer! I'll never give up until my account is fixed. May you all avoid the same mistake as I made... before linking your gamertag, make sure that you won't be changing the email addresses and other information associated with your EA account or Xbox Live gamertag. If creating an EA account to add a gamertag/psn ID for the first time, remember that this information (email, ect) should be the same across all Bioware networks like Bioware.com, Dragon Age, and Bioware Social Network accounts. If you already have an account on one of the Bioware networks, use the email on that account to create your EA account. The key is to have all your accounts properly linked to one another. Do not add your gamertag to an alternate EA account. You may only add it once! It's permanent and may not ever be changed. You're creating an account for life. Being properly prepared will help you avoid any pitfalls. Good luck to those of you who are new or are just now adding a console profile to your Bioware Social Network. Please contact me for any questions or concerns.
