I've done a LOT of forum searching and can't tell if this is possible or not.  Basically, I had an ME1 save game file that I would've been able to play on ME2... but my xbox was stolen.
Fast-forward a year or so and I REALLY wanna play ME2 with an ME1 save game.  Now, a friend was nice enough to offer his save game for me to use via MU (since we coincidentally made all the same major choices w/ romance and main story options).  Now, I realize I cannot just try to load his endgame save file because these are tied to the console and profile it was saved on BUT would this work?

Copy a save game from his console to MU that's close to the end of the game.

Load the save game on my console/profile (making it MY save game? not sure about loading from the MU or copying it to my HDD first tho) and just play ME1 through the end part.  The endgame save file gets written to my console and profile and I should be good to go, right?

My only question is, will it let me play his save game on ME1?  I've read that as long as the save file is loaded from a memory unit, you can play someone else's save file and it becomes your own once you play it while signed in to your profile.

PLEASE, help a soldja out?

Is this for Xbox 360?

If so then gamesaving is completely against the rules and Microsoft will ban you without a second's hesitation. Game saves will not work with any profile except the one that created them. I have no idea how gamesavers do it, but I assume it involves hacking the save. It is certainly not just a case of moving the save from a MU.

My advice is save yourself a huge headache and just replay ME1 again.

It totally worked, no hacking involved. actually, it is just a case of moving the save file from an MU. I couldn't believe how easy it was either.

My friend saved his game RIGHT before the final boss fight (part 2), so he just copied the ME1 save game to a MU. I put the MU in my console and copy it to my HDD. Now, it says right there that if you are NOT the original owner of the save file, you will become the owner once you copy it (ie: it gets linked to your gamertag as soon as you copy to HDD from MU).

Of course, you can't get ANY achievements for ME1 from doing this (because you used someone elses save and made it yours, which disables achievements for that save file).

Anyway, I played the last 10 mins or so, beat the game, which saved to my HDD and presto!
Once I started up ME2 it gave me the option to import. Now I have a ME2 save game that is ALL mine that is based off an imported character.

ONLY problem: you can't change your name (but isn't his first name just Commander anyway?)

Anyway, IT WORKS. :)

Wow seriously? My bad then, I had no idea that was even possible. Sorry for the bad advice then I guess!

I'd still have jumped at the excuse to play ME1 again tbh XD
