In ME1, I think the screenshot bind is in the BIOInput.ini file in the My Documents\\Mass Effect\\Config folder.  I have a line that's:

Bindings=(Name="F11",InputMode=BIO_INPUT_MODE_NONE,Command="TakeScreenShot",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False)

Binding screenshot to F11.

How do I do this in ME2?  There is no BIOInput.ini file at all, and there is no way from within the actual game.

Thanks.

Hello !

I didn't even know how to do that in ME1. looking at BIOInput.ini and looking for the F11 binding, I see:

Bindings=(Name="F11",Command="exec AFKEY_F11.txt",Alt=True)

But I don't find any AFKEY_F11.txt ... ?

I only should replace this line with the line posted above ?

And I have, of course, the same question for ME2 :)

Many thanks in advance for help !

Binding for screenshot:

[SFXGame.SFXGameModeDefault]
Bindings=( Name="F12", Command="Shot" )

Of course you can use any key, you don't have to use F12.

You do have to fix-up the caolesced.ini file after editing it. See Coalesced Editor in this forum for an easy way to fix-up the ini file after editing, there are other utilities that can do this as well.

I don't get it, is there no easy way to take screenshots for people who are not good with coding? :s

Why would bioware create a "screenshot" folder without the ability to take screenshots? I find it very strange...

Many thanks zBobG !!!

Ok, I could bind F12 to screen-shot, and when I used the key, I saw the game freeze a few milliseconds ... So I guessed it worked, but when I went to the "Screenshot" directory on my PC : no photo :'( ....

So ... Do you know where the screen shots are stored ?

Many thanks in advance :)

for me the screenshots go in the 2nd ME2 screenshot folder... Documents/BioWare/MassEffect 2/ BIOGame/Screenshots (the Screenshot folder in BioWare/Mass Effect 2/ also remains empty for me)

  • See the above post for the link to the Coalesced Editor.
  • Download the Editor and unzip its contents into the ME2 main directory.
  • Run "ME2CoalescedEditor".
  • Select the "Bindings Manager" menu.
  • In the bottom-left of the Controller Bindings screen, there's a "Game Keys" field.
  • Choose which key you want for taking screenshots.
  • To the right of the "Game Keys" is "Binding Options".
  • Select "Add New".
  • A field populates which allows you to enter the command for this key.
  • Between the quotes, type "shot".
  • Hit ENTER on your keyboard.
  • Close the Coalesced Editor.
  • Load ME2. Screenshots ahoy!
  • Default directory for ME2 screenshots is "\\\\Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\BIOGame\\\\Screenshots".
  • 1920x1080 res screenshots are 6.076 MB BMPs.

Doesn't seem to work during conversations.

Correct conversations are a no-go. Use FRAPS for screens during conversations.

if you changed your default documents directory, you need to create a new screenshots folder, otherwise screenshots are not created. mine is e.g. E:\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Screenshots

If you add a binding following Tajoumaru's method, you create a binding that is valid only during regular gameplay. I noticed in the coalesced file that there are multiple groupings of bindings under different headers. The above mentioned editor does allow you to add or alter bindings that are valid only during conversation. In the upper left panel under the BIOInput tab there is a tree with SFXGameNodeConversation in it. Under it are three default bindings.

Right click on it, select Add Settings, <new single setting>

This gives a prompt in which you should enter 'Bindings' and press OK.

Now you can freely enter text. By putting in:

( Name="F12",Command="shot")

and pressing enter, the binding will also work during conversations.

I tried this and it worked. I imagine it also applies to other game modes (other than standard and conversation), but I have not experimented with this.

Awesome, thanks diakencorp. I'm going to have to start editing my coalesced.ini now. :)

The other thing you can do is just hit the printscreen key, open up an image editor and select paste.

Only problem is you cant rapid fire screenies.

For me, my tiledshots go nowhere at all. :(

\\\\Documents\\\\BioWare\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\ScreenShots, nor anywhere in the C:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Mass Effect 2\\\\BioGame tree. I see the tiledshot being made! So, where did it go?!

This is on Windows 7, btw.

EDIT: Nevermind, found em; it just puts them square in the Biogame folder (no seperate screenshot folder).

There you go, installing and using fraps is a lot easier than all the file messing used to bypass the epic phails of bioware/ea.

Hi Guys: Here a code you add in your coalesced.ini file that make screenshot for you. Go to [SFXGame.SFXGameModeBase] in the coalesced.ini

Add this line to the file, Bindings=( Name="F8", Command="shot" )
save then use ME2IniFixer
The start to play the game, press F8 and you should have a new screenshot in your ME2 folder under My Document (check BIOGAME folder for the screenshot)

Hope this helps :)

Its amazing that in this day and age, where everyone is willing to enter just about any term into google, that people will ask a question like this and wait for the answer on a forum instead of looking for themselves.

How do you change the screenshot folder? I've bound my keys fine, but I want the screenshots to go into a different folder.

Cheers
