Does it make any sense starting a new game with a female shepard and hoping for a romance with a crewmember of the same sex or is the Paramour achievement only obtainable for male characters?

Also what's the use of all that flirting with Kelly Chambers?

For Femsheps, in order to get the Paramour achievement you need to romance Thane, Garrus, or Jacob.

So no gay relationships in this ultra modern game huh?
FOX couldn't handle the truth...

Indeed.

Does it make any sense that my Shepard who is in love with Liara comes on to Jacob the first time she speaks to him?

The lack of continuation from ME1 in regards to this is insulting.

The use of flirting with Chambers is if you don't romance anyone else and you bring her back after the mission, then she has a very nice use. Don't think you'll get a paramour achievement with her though.

You don't get a romance cutscene you get the juvenile ability to have her perform a stripper dance.

Paramour achievement can only be achieved with a squad mate. So if you woo Chambers, you won't get it because she's not apart of your squad.

You can bring back your entire crew. You just need to go rescue them immediately after they're taken. If she died, you took far too long.

In Bioware's defense, not everyone is gay/bi. It's just reality. Perhaps they just didn't feel that fit any of the characters this time around? I didn't like being forced to flirt with Jacob, but otherwise, if there isn't anyone for you, just hold off and your romance from ME2 will probably be seen in ME3. Though I do kind of hope there is something for the gay men in ME3, that's one pairing that has not shown up in the ME series.

I'm a straight guy but I realise not everyone is like me, it's just reality so that reasoning from BW makes no sense ;)

Interestingly enough it seems both Tali and Thane were originally supposed to be LI for both Shepard's apparently some of the voice work was even done for it but it was cut.

This is a game. These character are what BioWare makes them.

I will say this, the Garrus romance is really sweet with a female Shepard, my favorite out of the ones that they gave us (my better known thoughts on the romances not with standing...)

If you talk to Tali she has no issues with being "intimate" with female Shepard.  It just isn't acted upon in the game.

And two years is a long time to wait. :(

What's your point? I was saying that if you take 10 random people, there is a rather good possibility that none of them would be gay, so why should the crew in ME2 have to feature gay romances? To just include those when they aren't appropriate for the characters because they're considered a necessity is not putting proper character development first.

What exactly does she say? She said that she would link her suit with me if I were a Quarian, but you hear about a female Quarian on the Flotilla doing this with Tali's mother, so it's just a bond, not a romantic thing necessarily.

Not everyone is gay/bi, but its's pretty easy to make dialogue non-gender specific and usable by both sides. That approach worked just great in Dragon Age. No reason why they couldn't have done the same thing here. Especially given the other mature themes in the product.

Or you have no relationship woth a femshep if you had one with a previous crewmate as I did with Liara, hoping my abstaining serves well for ME3.

But that would make the party member bi, and that just doesn't make sense for some characters. Just because you can do something doesn't mean it makes sense.

Tali describes it with as the most inimate action in Quarian culture.

Did you play Dragon Age? Not every character was Bisexual, but two weren't bothered by it. In ME2, Jack certainly talks about having sex with women, yet not an option for her.

I'm not suggesting every character be Bi, but I could see a few not being bothered by it, or at least caring more about the person rather than gender.

I feel I must repeat this: none of the characters are "set." Their personalities, likes and dislikes and so forth are whatever BioWare wants them to be. If they decide that Tali or Jacob are going to be bi now in a patch or something, then those two characters will be bi.

I'm my groups RPG Gamemaster, meaning I make a ton of characters (My Vampire the Requiem chronicle has 500+ characters) and sometimes, when you make a character you don't have a choice anymore as they flesh out.  You realize that they have become a certain type of person and now it's your job to make sure they become that type of person.
In a story I ran, my lady wanted to romance a specific character, and as much as I wanted to give her what she wanted, I realized the character would have no interest.
The point is, sometimes, you can't control the sexual preference or even the motivations of characters after they are made.

In a sense it is, it requires a close bond, partially because doing it makes the person who is doing the linking quite sick for a week, but if it was a romantic thing, I don't think that quarian on the Flotilla (wish I could remember her name) would be doing such a thing with Tali's mother, who was with her father at the time.

Obviously this is true, but I just don't think deciding that a character is gay and then basing their personality around that is good character design. First, you must have a good and interesting character, then you determine specify qualities like sexual orientation. Ultimately it was decided that homosexuality was no appropriate for any squad members, this is a valid determination just as much as making them so would be.
