Mass effect 2 endgame got me thinking, we know Retribution is based on
Cerberus again with the Illustive man, now implanting a human subject
with Reaper technology (Grayson).
The last decision of ME2 is wether you destory or preserve the Collectors base. I'm thinking Retribution will be the outcome from saving the base. Myself i dont think i'll ever save the base in any of my playthroughs, but i'm really looking forward to this novel. Even if its going to be based on if the reaper technology was avaliabe to Illustive man from the aftermath of ME2.

This is just wild speculation, Retribution could be a competely different story. Just seems more than a coincidence.

Thoughts?

Even though the Cerberus science team went crazy after working on the old reaper husk, there's always a possibility that during their stay they could have given a bunch of info to Cerberus to work on a project like that. I doubt the Collector base was the only way to obtain and research reaper tech.

I think the events of Retribution take place before ME2. I read that somewhere but I forgot where.

Going by what the previous books have done, they won't confirm one choice or the other in any aspect. So I don't think it would necessarily assume that he got the tech from the base. There are any number of places he could have gotten Reaper tech from, after all.

Yeah, I think I recall hearing it takes place before it too. Could be wrong though.

Retribution is a prequel to Mass Effect 2, but a sequel to Ascension.

The second Normandy has some reaper parts in it already, so it is very possible that those parts were scratch from the Citadel assault.

In my opinion the repaer tech experiments performed on Grayson are the prelude or test before they take Lazarus into full swing, i think Shep is running on reaper tech and essentially could be part reaper.
