We realize that not everyone will like her, Undeath. Some people will even loathe her. We're not naive. We disagree, but we do realize she has her flaws. As far as physicalities go, that's subjective. Attractiveness is a personal decision, not fact. You don't think she's attractive, that's great. We do. You could have been more respectful of us and posted the fact that you felt that way in a more neutral manner, but that's moot. And of course she has personality flaws. Everyone does. We choose to see past them because we think there is a really great character underneath and in spite (in some part because of) those flaws. We appreciate hearing differing points of view on her character. You can even look back and see how we've spoken to those who didn't like her. It's nice to hear why others don't like her because maybe we can change their mind or maybe it's something we havent considered before. However, you offered no constructive critisicm and were far from respectful. If you want to start doing that then I'm sure we can carry on a meaningful dialogue. Otherwise, youll probably just be ignored.
Why should I be neutral in my hate? You arent neutral in your adoration of her. (well some are) Just because I have a separate viewpoint means I should either shut up or... eh. I guess I could calmly express my distaste.
Bleh, but what would be the fun in that?
As for her supporters... I can say you lot are much less creepy than Taliphiles. To your credit. I just cant understand why anyone would like her... Miranda, that is. I happen to like Tali.
I was going to originally use this as an excuse to use my "cool story brogan" pic, but as this post is actually fairly neutral I'll respond in hopes that it will remain such.
I can't speak for everyone else, as its obvious many people here like the character mainly or largely for her looks. I can understand this, however, at least on my part, I really like her character because, rather than being an attractive collection of pixels, she's a badass. She subscribes to the "it might not be nice or morally straightforward, but it gets the job done" view, which I find enjoyable. Garrus is the same way, and that's why the 2 of them are my favorite characters. Mordin as well to an extent.
So while Miranda and Strahovski are very attractive, the thing that I really like is the "get it done" attitude. I may not post on this thread every 2 pages, but I do read it, and I will continue to support Miranda and her inclusion and expansion of her role in this game, and the next one.
I personally don't like tali, but its not hard for me to keep it to myself, just for the record.
EDIT: dang I took too long writing this and he left. Oh well.
Little do you know... the spirit of undeath haunts the forums still!
Anyway I am starting to see the appeal in her to other people. Actually it is ironic I have lashed out at her, because in my second playthrough I plan to keep her as a constant companion till I get Tali/Thane. And I have actually been surprised at how many Cerberus related interjections she has in diologues.
Perhaps my hate stems from the horrible first impression she gives. The first time you meet her while not on an operating table she shoots someone in the face. Then she questions your capability, giving you 'memory' tests. From there she moves from lauding Cerberus, an organization I despise, to projecting such a smug aura of superiority I want to bash her buck teeth in with the butt of my gun.

You know, people deride some of the romance shippers and claim we want a dating sim... but you know, I would love a DLC that is all about dating the LI. Have differing scenarios for each and have the paragon/renegade decisions be on how you acquire the "spot" or gifts... maybe I'm just pathetic, but actually having that romantic dinner scene with Miranda be a nice little DLC wouldn't be all that bad.
Yes... another sad and pathetic moment for me. Woot, I'm going to have the record. Well, not counting the Tali doll of course...... but be honest, if someone made a lifelike Miranda persacom, you'd buy it. Come on, be honest.

Indeed.
Her black outfit is so tight, her navel pit ghosts through the fabric...
I wonder how she would look in more sensible armor? I hope ME3 might enlighted us on this. I would approve of her keeping the ME2 style wardrobe for the "off mission" look tho. To be worn while onboard the Normandy. Just... no more high heels in combat, if we get lucky enough to have her in the squad in ME3.
Heretics......
She's the perfect woman. She can walk better in high heels than any other being in the galaxy with their most sensible footwear.

The heels don't bother me,but if there was alternative without changing her outfit it would be the same style boots without the heels part.Sleepy Buddha wrote...

I think the whole first impression thing is one of the major reasons a lot of people don't like her.
But, to most of us here, it's what attracted us to her in the first place. If you're good with judging emotions and reading body languages, I honestly suggest doing a playthrough romancing her - and saving before each conversation - so you can view all the outcomes of your choices.
She is a surprisingly deep character - and can give off the wrong impression if you don't read her emotions/body language right.

Damn, you people are making me feel old. First, I can't keep up with the thread, Second, I just found out a lot of you are about a decade younger then me (I wish I was younger). And third, Flashy made me cringe with his heels comment.
Flashy, high heels on a woman are awesome. Not only do they extend her legs and make her tushy stick out more, they also improve her confidence (it works on a subconcious level) because they make her feel sexy and powerful (especialy over men). That image of Yvonne in heels is stunning.
But I digress. The reason I came back was to share a few thoughts with you good people.
I know some think the sex scene with Miranda is too physical. After considering why this might be, I think I know the reason. Just stay with me for a bit.
Considering her personal history, I believe that Miranda, even though she is a mature 35 year old woman, has never had a real intimate relationship. Now, I don't mean that she's a virgin or any nonsense of the sort. I mean she has never felt close to anyone.
She spent her youth as a recluse by her fathers choice, so no chance for intimacy there. Then she flees and ends up with Cerberus which, lets face it, is definitely not the place where you would find people you'd want to be close to.
So here you have a woman who for the past 35 years has kept her distance from just about everyone she meets, and by distance, I don't mean just emotional. I also mean physical.
That's why it's such an important moment after her loyalty mission when she touches Shepard's arm. That's also why I think her scene is so physical.
After living a life like that, Miranda must be starved for intimate physical contact (literaly). Intimate physical contact is just as important in a relationship as deep feelings. And she had denied herself both all her life.
After realizing that Shepard really cared for her, she still tried to avoid it, but hey, they might be dead soon. She probably saw it as her last chance to have something she never trully had, and being Miranda, took everything she could, regardless of the rest.
Anyway, just my opinion. No need to treat it as dogma (but it would be nice).
I just hope this doesn't get lost in the middle of all the rapid fire posts, because I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.
In the words of Dr. Cocteau, "Be well."
I know this is like from 20 pages back now and I'm only just now catching up, but this was worth bumping. There's two points I'd like to add:
-I think this ties into her whole lack of self-respect. In a lot of her relationships, she's probably thinking, "they want me for my genetically engineered body/intellect...not ME." Because she assigns no value to herself, she keeps people at an emotional and even physical distance.
-I think this is why Miranda's past relationships (poor Jacob) have failed. SleepyBuddha's right, Miranda's almost certainly not a 35-year-old virgin. It's easy to see her warming to potential reomantic partners, and then pushing them away. Maybe she's afraid that they won't like her beyond surface perfection, or maybe, having been treated as a tool by most other people in her life, she doesn't see herself worthy of human relationships.

Now I feel bad about "accusing" her of being jealous. I think I have one game save right before that convo *rushes off to talk to/possibly make out with Miranda*

Which is another reason why people hate her I think. They don't see the small steps and doubts creep up on her and simply see her "defending" Cerberus. But it is apparent that she is desperately trying to maintain her image of Cerberus since she had dedicated everything to it. They don't understand that her defense was also her trying to convince herself that she didn't waste so many years with the villain.
