Why does everyone assume if he had a past relationship with Miranda that was serious he has to die? Although his reasons for losing out on Miranda are lame ("she deserves a better man"...way to pour on the confidence, Jake), he does put his feelings aside and doesn't let them influence his attitude towards working with Shepard. He had more of a bromance-y conversation then Garrus did (STOP CALLIBRATING THE GUNS ALREADY!).

Back in the day, I had an AP English teacher who used to say the each time he read Hamlet, he'd follow a different character very closely to see their responses. The first time you read Hamlet, you obviously Hamlet most closely. I sort of feel that way about replaying ME and DAO. Each time I playthrough I try to pay closer attention to different characters. I'll try to pay more attention to Jacob on my next playthrough. (Doesn't help he's kinda rubbish in combat, but whatever.)

What I'm seeing is this;

If you don't have a love interest from ME1 - and get one in ME2 - it's possible something else in their life might try and take them away from you, much like how the ME2 are supposed to tempt you to leave your ME1 LI.

For Miranda, I think Jacob might have a resurgence of emotions and challenge you - that is my fear - and I refuse to let it happen. Just like how I refused to let the idea that Ashley will come back to bite me in the ass.

I started a new playthrough of ME1 to get rid of the Ashley scenario - now to remedy the Jacob scenario.

Eh I am not afraid, as Jacob says things got a little close then really far away, I got the impression that there was an initial attraction between them, but its obvious that Miranda drove him away. I also remember him saying "if I knew what made her tick I'd either be with her or I'd be dead" from that line I don't think there was anything serious between them. Just in case though my Shep will be carrying his shotgun aboard the Normandy now in ME3...

One option should be a drinking contest, its proven that Shepard is the best drunk in the galaxy

Miranda is awesome. I think she and Jacob should get the chance to get back together if neither is a ME2 LI in your game and they both survive for ME3. Their background was togther was aweosme. I hope it gets explored further.

Well, the Miranda/Jacob relationship is wide open to speculation. Even if it was quite serious, I don't think there's any reason for Shepard to feel insecure. (He DID save the Galaxy....and is he going to hunt down ALL of Miranda's past boyfriends?) I know when we say Miranda has experience there's a nudge-nudge, wink-wink, say no more quality to it, but there is a value to having been in a prior serious relationship. It's why Miranda is able to be forward and open while approaching Shepard, even while she's worried about showing her vulnerabilities, while Tali and Liara come off as awkward. It's part of the charm of the respective characters.

Maybe it's just jealousy that's driving me, but I don't even want to have the possibility that Jacob could make a move on her in ME3. Miranda and Shep are supposed to have this great, passionate romance with bits of fighting and saving the galaxy inbetween.  I'll be damned if Jacob is going to turn ME3 into an episode of Gossip Girl. I fully believe there was a functioning trash compactor that you could interact with for a reason.

Well, I guess we're just looking for different things. I, for example, am totally hoping for a massive Ashley/Miranda fight.

And I can't be jealous of people who are not the player character. The galaxy bends to my will (Which is why it was outrageously funny for my dwarf to do almost every romance option in DAO...sure, he's like 4 feet tall, but he was quite the playa.)

Would be an interesting concept wouldn't it though? Jacob could also have a shot with either Jack or Ashley, and perhaps Garrus and Tali together could be interesting, turians and quarians are genetically similar in some aspects. Also that talk between that quarian and the turian who wanted to be more than friends at the bar in Illium could be foreshadowing that:D

How well Bioware has developed this character.



Not only do I feel like I could know this woman personally... but now I'm plotting to make sure not other man stands between her and my Shepard. No other game has done that.

Yeah Bioware does a great job with characters, I also felt like this with Morrigan on DA:O, and how it ended just got me mad... hopefully my character will find her in the future

It's okay, Garrus is ugly now, so people should stop hitting on him and ignoring Shep...at least that's his logic.

I can see him all dreamy-eyed saying "I wonder what she looks like under her helmet!" then trotting off to his cabin to cuddle with his home-made Tali doll.
