If you are romancing multiple characters, they're aware of each other. Otherwise, Mordin is the only one who has a special conversation linked to your LI.

You have to talk to him once you have been through all convos with your LI. Once Miri starts saying she'll be by when things are quiet (oh, i'm definitely interested) you should be ready to talk to him.

You also need to make sure that you keep up with talking to Mordin on a consistent basis.

I didn't talk to him in my first playthrough and never got it - yet in my recent one I did, and it played.

I love how he suggests using mass effect fields..

It was that way for me - but I don't know if that's 100%.

The safest way to ensure you get the dialogue is to speak with your LI and Mordin after every recruitment/loyalty mission.

Just an observation about Miranda:



I've heard people refer to her as an "ice queen". I do not agree. I'm replaying ME2 now with my male Shepard, looking forward to how it will go with Miranda, and I find she's not particularly cold even at the start. She's professional, and not particularly warm, of course. After all, you're her piece of work for now. But those who name her "ice queen" seem to regard anyone as such who doesn't immediately be your friend. Even when she says she's not looking for a friend, she stays friendly. She just keeps a bit of distance.



The result, for me, is a relationship that is built on respect as well as passion. As opposed to Tali, Shepard has an equal in Miranda, as much as the storyline will allow. I'm getting a surprising kick out of that.
