I always thought Jack had the most beautiful face of the ladies, actually. Miranda was more sexy and had great hair.

Miranda's face is more my thing but yeah she sorta looks like a homocidal Natalie Portman facewise.

Eh I didn't think any of the characters in Mass Effect had an Uncanny Valley problem.

This does prove that Miranda probably has the best hair of any LI ; ).

Yes, in addition to all the other awesomeness she just *has* to have long black hair and blue-grey eyes. Irresistible.

But she needs a new breathing mask or space helmet (how many times has that thing been bemoaned in this thread?)

Eh, what's this? A new page yet again? It must be crazy over there in the Tali thread, if this is in indication of it.

Well....some people have mentioned it re: Miranda elsewhere. Personally, I think it varies from person to person (and the graphical quality of your playing experience may make a difference, too.) Probably wasn't a problem for anyone likely to be reading this thread, though.

...but I'm getting lunch now. Really.

What's is this uncanny valley deal with Miri?  Have I missed something?  Too realistic for them or too stiff?

Probably only in those threads where they try to insist she is ugly.  Her face looks great from where I sit.

Well, because she's Yvonne's facial scan, she's more distinctive and realistic looking then, say, Kelly Chambers.

Ninja'ing the wikipedia graph http://en.wikipedia..../Uncanny_valley, I would say most ME characters fall to the left of the valley (humanlike, but recognizably cartoonish and therefore easy to empathize with), but some feel that Miranda's likeness to Yvonne puts her in the valley (along with the creepy Polar Express people.)

As far as the whole uncanny valley and Miranda- I don't think it ever gets uncanny valley with her face model, but IMO, playing ME2 on my PC on max settings, whether or not the faces look realistic depends on the lighting and shadows a lot. Some scenes Miranda will look fantastic but then change the lighting and it looks off, especially knowing what Yvonne looks like in real life. I think its partly the skin textures too- sometimes the light and shadows sort of bleach out the skin textures on the face which make characters seem a bit plastic/rubber like.

The facial animations can be a bit off at times too- prime example would be Shepard trying to smile. I think one of the problems with the facial animations is that the characters rarely move their eyebrows or other subtle facial movements people make when talking.  Not a big deal and ME2 is a vast improvement over ME1, but I hope they continue tweaking it for ME3.

As good as Miranda's face looks in ME2, I am really impressed with Zaeed- I don't know if they scanned someone's face for him, but it looks damn realistic. I hope they get a better scan of Yvonne for ME3...

I never bought into the Uncanny Valley theory. The closer you get to realism the better and more easier to empathise. I have never had that "revulsion" reaction to any of the listed examples.

The facial animations sometimes do wreck it---particularly when there's clipping. I think the ME2 eyes are some of the best I've seen in computer animation--there was supposedly an "eye strike force" that spent three months alone, just working on character eyes. The eyes are almost always what ruin the illusion for me, but not so (MOST of the time) in ME2.

And, since we're back on the subject of how close Miranda looks to Yvonne:

But I think the stills flatter Miranda a bit. (Except maybe in the FFtL trailer. As I've said before, actually having her hair move sorta naturally goes a long way.)

I find that to be more revolting because it is intentionally mutilating an otherwise normal visage, whereas the equivalent look in a video game is an honest attempt to replicate and revere reality.  It operates off of two different principles I guess.  When I look at a robot that looks like a human being, but with bad facial plastic surgery...it inspires instead of revolts.  When I look at a human being that has ****** with him or herself and now looks like the robot... well, it is one of the "WTF".

Different starting points, different intents.

I know I am about to get OT here, but bear with me guys because I am perturbed at the moment.

I just watched my bro play ME2 a little bit with his FemShep, and is it just me or is the FemShep voice really depressing and monotonous compared to the MaleShep? I mean really, it seems the voice work for the FemShep is very mediocre in comparison to the MaleShep. Anyone else feel this way?

Speaking of which I need lunch too. (Nachos?)

And actually, to be on topic, looking at a comparison of Miranda and Yvonne, it seems BW made the face of Miranda a bit wider. The lips and cheeks extend out a bit further than Yvonne. Just my two cents on that.

For my main maleShep, Meer's delivery and voice fit perfectly.  While Hale still does a fantastic job, it does feel like a tiny step backward playing a femShep now.  It used to be reverse for ME1.

craziness!

the male shep sounds cardboard this time around and the femshep voice is more expressive.

all a matter of opinion I guess.

I have actually taken ME2 out of my Xbox for the first time since release and am now playing Bioshock 2...

Eh, I vastly prefer Fem!Shep. Then again, I've been a big fan of Hale since she voiced Felicia Hardy in Spider-man. Miranda is the only reason I play Male!Shep.

Anybody here write fanfic? I've been kicking around a few Miranda ideas. Curiously, the only romantic one also involves Miranda dying on the suicide mission. I don't know if I want to deal with the angst. The other is more about Miranda dealing with Cerberus' dark side.

I fully agree...her voice really sounds depressing. It sounds like she's mean and just pissed off all the time, just seems to lack emotion in my opinion.

I cringed a few times at male shep's voice in ME1 and he does a much better job in ME2. You male shep voice haters should listen again and reshape your opinion IMO because I was on your side last time.

Saying anything against Hale and her awesome femshep is just blasphemy though. I can only say I strongly disagree she does a great job in both ME games.

Ok, lunch now. Really. But Shepard voice-acting--I feel like both Meer and Hale have a "renegade voice" and a "paragon voice". I have my Captain America ManShep and my Queen **** of the Universe FemShep, which makes things pretty distinctive. I haven't gotten that deep into my FemShep playthrough JUST yet, but Meer is much improved from ME1 IMO. Paragon ManShep comes off as much smarter, diplomatic, almost Captain Picard-esque.

I know a lot of people think FemShep sounds a lot better, but I prefer Meer- in ME2 especially, I think Hale makes FemShep sound too harsh, almost like she is trying too hard.

Although some of the romantic lines delivered by Meer make me cringe- don't know if thats his fault or the writing though...

"Oh, I'm DEFINITELY interested!"

Though to be honest, "I can't admire your mind or body?/I wouldn't mind if you'd admire my body a little bit more" is a good exchange IMO, but it's really Yvonne that brings the heat, there.

I am working on a Miri fic right now.  It might take a few weeks since it seems to be fairly story extensive along with the more erotic content.

And you can never go wrong with Captain Picard-esque.

Paragon Shep plays off nicely with Miranda, too. Good chance for "the ends justify the means" "No, you do the right thing the right way." debates.
