There are so really wacky numbers in there. Alot of people did nothing but downvote everyone else - and 10 their favorite character. The thing about those kind've surveys is you get to choose your answer, and thus, you won't get an accurate sample of people's tastes.

I'm curious in seeing Bioware's numbers - they'd be more accurate in describing where each character stands at the moment.

No, I think the results are rather good. The comparison between the different polls reveal little difference, and apart from a few surprises (Wrex, Kaidan) it's about what I would expect. MIranda has only landed on rank 6, and of course it's a bit disappointing, but again that's what I'd expect.

I think Rathias is right. The huge discrepancy in rating defeats the purpose of the survey. Rather than getting accurate results for each character, you just get an idea for who romanced who. There's no way any squadmate is a 1, let alone a 5, but above that IMO.

You know, with the actual survey, we can check that. One of the questions is which romance is considered the best. For Garrus, for instance, it's absolutely clear that his popularity stems not from his romance - too few people consider his romantic encounters the best. For Tali, maybe, but she's not that far in front of the second (Tali: ca. 150, Miranda: ca 100) in the romance favorites votes.
Yes, I also think that no squadmate deserves a 1, but many people don't have the emotional distance to vote in a well-considered way. They just go "I *really* don't like X, so I give him a 1", without considering that like or not, he or she may be a well-made character. But that's how these things work.

@leldra

Yes it's so true. You cant tell how people will/should vote, only really understand why. I know that I myself submitted an unbiased vote on the survey. Gave Miri, Tali, Samara, Thane, and Mordin a 10. Everyone else got 7-9's.

At least I can still give Miri due looove. And nachos ;)

After I played through the game the first time, I always viewed the opening a bit differently. It seems like Miranda cares about Shep even then. Obviously it's not like anything she feels later, but she's spent 2 years working on him and getting to know his mind and body. I wouldn't be surprised if she admired Shepard at that point, if only in a distant sort of way.

The look she gives you before she berates Wilson on getting the numbers wrong support this theory.

Technically, the relationship has been going strong for 2+ years... though it has been a bit one-sided.

I mean, come on - her project was to make Shepard complete again..

Little did she know that it wasn't futuristic medical science.. or the rebuilding of the Normandy that made him complete.

It was her.

Project Lazarus was a success.

Agreed. The look she gives before berating Wilson seemed to me somewhat caring right from the start. I think for a few moments she let her guard down while trying to calm down Shepard and for fear of losing him when she was so close to succeeding.

Yeah, I totally went to bed when the forums went down.

...

What?! It was 3:30 in the morning!

But I agree about the survey. A lot of people are just rating based upon who they like more. I was rating on who serves the most purpose in the story and who I like the most. Garrus and Miranda were my only 10s, and I actually put down Garrus as funniest character. Miranda isn't actually doing that bad, but it's a pretty big ****** off when you see someone who rated her a 1.

You will always have haters - especially the people who refuse to even talk to her. I know a guy who refused to do anything with her - talk to her, loyalty mission, etc - because he thought she was just big chest and booty and nothing more.

Some people can't get over the fact that she takes some time to warm up to - and are turned off from her right from the start. Those of us who understand this and persist anyway are rewarded thoroughly with an interesting and well written character - those of us who don't, well.. their loss.

I find it funny how some people think you must be shallow if you romance Miranda, but they're the ones judging her based on her appearance and making preconceptions on her personality. Apparently all good characters have to either be ugly or have their face hidden.

Well said Rath, I agree. Miranda is interesting because she doesn't open up trust to Shep at first. You have to get her to open up that trust and in turn you learn so much about her.

The irony is beautilful, isn't it? Shallow people accusing others of being shallow for not being prejudiced.

I need to take the survey. I like pretty much all the squadmates. Mordin was probably my favorite (musical theatre nerd), but pretty much everyone has more depth than in ME1. The only LI I refuse to romance is Jack because I understand they go the sex-as-emotional-healing route. That kid needs therapy, not a boyfriend. Then again, I am female and persumably not the target for Jack's romance anyway.

Well it works both ways. I've seen people go after Tali fans over physical attraction, which to me is odd since you can't even see Tali's face--you're left to judge her on her personality. Or they attack because you can't see her face, and they think there's something weird about judging a character by personality.

I'm not sure why so many people let others' opinions influence their enjoyment of the game and its characters. Not that it ultimately matters--I've got two Shepards, one for Miranda and one for Tali. Best of both worlds. :D

Aren't there some that obsess about the hips as well? :P

But anyways you are right I fail to see who and what I do in my game effects someone else, yeah Bioware does gather data to see what characters will play a larger role in ME3 but I bet both Tali and Miranda are gonna play a big role in ME3.

In all honesty I haven't gone near the survey. It would just give me one big headache besides this thread is much easier to chat in haha.

Just checked the @masseffect2 Twitter page, last update was 10 days ago saying "Free ingame content in a couple of weeks for those who have redeemed Cerberus Network"

This can't refer to the Cerberus Assault DLC since that was released a few days later. Wonder what the DLC will be. Most likely the Hammerhead tank, maybe Kasumi. Either way can't wait.

As for the survey results, I'm sure BW will be smart enough to ignore results that are clearly LI biased, i.e. the characters rated 1 or really low with the LI rated 10.

Can't say I'm very excited at the prospect of Kasumi. I think we have too many squad mates already and another just seems pretty pointless unless they're going to give her a lot more dialogue than Zaeed.

Miranda Date Night DLC, come on BioWare, make it happen! Posted Image

Well of course I hope for the Date Night DLC :)

Patience is key. Something like that will take time to develop for BW, but it will be worth the wait if it's in the works.

As much as I'd love it, if date night ever becomes a reality i'll defect to the Tali thread.

Possibly you go to the planet with the Hammerhead, and you go to look around. Only when you get back in the Hammerhead Kasumi has snuck aboard it!?!

As I said, I don't think it is. At least not very much. Don't look at the tables, they're misleading. Look at the means. Based on the first 525 entries, the characters with a mean rating over 7 are:
Mordin  8.78
Garrus 8.46
Wrex 8.44
Legion 8.27
Tali 7.89
Miranda 7.11
And only about 30 of 525 entries have selected Garrus as favorite romance (Tali: 150, Miranda: 100). The other first four characters are all non-romance characters. So the first four characters do not have their high ratings because of romance. There is a correlation between ratings for Garrus, Mordin, Wrex and Grunt, which supports my hypothesis that there is a big group of people who mainly like characters because they're funny or cool. ME1 LI characters also rate very low. Liara and Ashley come out much better than Kaidan, which is surprising given there is a big Kaidan thread and almost nothing for Liara and Ashley. The tendency of Tali fans to rate Miranda a bit lower obviously hasn't hurt Miranda's ratings much, because there can be no doubt that Tali is indeed more popular than Miranda.
And at last, the ranks are identical (excepting Wrex, wo wasn't in the other poll) to those gained from a poll using a different method.
So, all in all, I'd say the results are pretty representative, like it or not. The more extreme ratings average out over a sample of 525 entries. I count the influence of the "funny and cool" crowd much greater than the influence of any LI fans.
