You can be friends...for now, with Miri. You have to choose the "damn it, your right" option at some point, I can't remember exactly when though.
Yep. It's right before she tells you not to die. I actually have a playthrough that I want to import into ME 3 with this outcome. It's more of a "Let's put this on hold, and we can be together after the mission" kind of thing, IMO.

Yes bring her with you on the final mission
and make sure she's unloyal... she will be killed by the rubble its
actually really sad if she's your LI and you have to hold her limp body
for a second.
I don't think she can be your LI if she isn't loyal. The only way to kill loyal Miranda is have her carried off by the swarm or have her hold the line with a lot of missing squadmates.

Well said Rath, I agree. Miranda is interesting because she doesn't open up trust to Shep at first. You have to get her to open up that trust and in turn you learn so much about her.
I agree, Miranda isn't even my LI in what I consider my true Shep (the character through ME1 and ME2 that I made genuine decisions and haven't manafactured choices). I like her because of the depth of character. Unlike any other character she really changes as the game progresses.
And i'm not sure about a DLC romance pack. Maybe they could instead do a character specific pack where you can buy one based on the character you like the most, so to develop friendships, learn more about their past and complete more loyalty type missions.

We should get a pic of the hug. I thought this was more powerful since Shepard didn't want to make a promise he couldn't keep, and rather asked Miranda to believe in him that he would get everyone and himself through.

The "Miranda Manifesto" is it now? I guess I have acquired some bragging rights then.
Comtrav sugested the name after I praised your essay and I agreed, it fits. Sums up how I feel about Miranda very well. So yeah, you've earned the right to brag.

I don't think miranda can die if she is loyal, under any circumstances. I don't know for sure though.
Only possibility I can think of is during the biotic field bit. Either a non-loyal Jack or Samara, or one of the other Biotics, with her as 2nd squadmate (the one that tends to always get swarmed).
Other than that, nope other than maybe the door defence team but I reckon at that stage you would need to be so low on numbers that she is the only one and even then am guessing she has a chance of survival.
From a RP PoV the obvious one would be a non-loyal Jack. Although in that predicament why a Shep would choose her as the biotic and put a loyal miranda in the squad I don't know.
Edit: When exactly is the hug scene?

I've never seen it myself, but if I recall correctly when Miranda says "Promise me you won't die!", choose the "No promises" dialogue option and you should get the hug.

What Odin said. It's not a renegade response by the way, just a different way to go about the dialog. You will still have sex with her before the suicide mission regardless of that answer.

Yeah, I think all he's gonna get for $10 is her putting her hand on her chest. And she's being generous there.

Hang on, Miranda seems to be busy and has something inside her mouth, what's that Miranda it was only a dollar? Not ten? Oh, ok.

C'mon man, don't come in here trying to stir up trouble. We appreciate Tali as much as the next guy, this is really unwarrented.
That being said, I'd be lying if I didn't chuckle a bit at the picture.
