"Ok, noone died so far. I'll take Grunt and Jack with me to the last boss, even the disloyal members should be allowed to have some fun too right here at the end. *after the boss* Wait, wha- I- FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU"DarthReavus wrote...
As far as I'm aware if you take two non-loyal squadmates with you to fight the human-reaper then Shepard dies. Both squadmates die in the following cutscene and so there's nobody to pull Shepard up into the airlock so he lets go to save Joker and any surviving crew.

Oh man, I almost had an accident the first time I saw the ledge scene. Great tension though.

Oh yeah a sure jaw dropping moment. Sadly in my Cannon playthrough my Shepard saved Jacob since he was in my party.

Yea that's what happens, and I think it's the only way Shepard can die, but I haven't tested it yet.
I've tested it, and that is the ony way Shepard can die. I did a play through where I had Jack ,and Legion with no loyalty. Both die after the final battle which in turns makes Shepard dies.
is the final scene different then? i'd imagine if miranda survived, then she'd report to TIM as opposed to Joker.

It was Joker for me when it came to that scene. I did romance Miranda, but the scene still plays out the same with the Joker ending.

I'm pretty sure Bioware viewed it as if Shepard dies then no one else on the crew matters in the end save for Joker.

Besides that, ME2 isnt really all that hard to ensure everyone survives, so I'm sure BW set a limit to how many squadmates could die, and possibly who could die, to determine whether or not your final save could be imported in ME3. Final conclusion: We should see almost everyone returning, especially Miranda as she was one of the more "important" squadmates as Shepard's second-in-command (and looooove interest of course
Just get the best playthrough/ending and ME3 should be awesome.

If we're going to think it through logicaly, she wouldn't have been able to do it the first time. He fell to a planet, the atmosferic reentry alone would have vaporised his body.
As for the financial backing, it wouldn't cost as much because the first time they had been experimenting to find the process. Now it was a matter of replicating what worked. Lower cost and I'm sure someone with her connections could get what was needed.
As for the promise, I don't think she was looking for a real promise. I thought Miranda was looking for a declaration of intention on his part, meaning that it wasn't that he would definitely survive, but rather he intended to survive while carrying out the mission. A kind of declaration of his commitment to her.
Well, we don't know how much of that money went into the actual research into bringing him back. I'm guessing at least 50% of it, at most - and that's not even considering if the $4Billion spent covered everything - from the facility, staff pay, maintenance, etc - or if all was bumped purely into Shepard.
In regards to the atmospheric re-entry, we don't know what the material those suits are made of. I mean hell, if they can stand explosions, plasma (or whatever comes out of the rifle) in direct hits.. it's possible it's also really heat resistant. Take for example the mission when you go rescue Tali - the direct UV damage alone should've melted it - but 'lo and behold. We don't really know the technology behind the suit.
And he didn't make it through perfectly - his skin was severly burnt. If you watch during the surgery, the scenes where they show what look like huge scabs are probably all the burnt flesh.
Regarding if she had the money - I don't think she would. Her major connections were with Cerberus - unless she went to the Alliance for help, I don't think any of her connections would give her the funding - with the threat of having Cerberus' wrath if you do.
I see your point on the promise - it was probably meant to be mental reassurance, but I still think the no promise route is better. I do kind've wish they worded it better.. it seemed like what he said was an attempt to make Miranda come out of her shell fully.
"You know I can't make that promise.. but if it's not worth it.."
"No, it is."
etc.
I think someone a long the lines of;
"Look, Miranda - we both know what we're getting ready to go into. You know I can't make this promise - but know that I will do everything in my power to make sure we come out of it alive - for you, to come out of it alive."
Think that would've been a lot more emotional and heart-tugging than what he said.

You're right, if the dialog for "No promises" had been like you thought out, it would have been much better

I've always love writing, haha. I just get too many writer's block to actually make anything out of it.
You too, huh? Have a nasty case at the moment... trying to do that Miri story I promised and it is like bashing my head off a brick wall right now. Doesn't help when you have to fight the dark cloud of angst tainting everything... I don't think anyone here would appreciate a teary death scene with Miri fading into the beyond.

Back to Miranda, I thought some of the moments were really precious where Shepard tells Miranda that, even though she is made in a perfect, mistake-free image, she is still human and what she has she can be proud of and happy about, instead of putting her own self down, as Miranda usually does. Miranda believes that what she has is "not enough", but Shepard really assures her that she is good enough, enough for Shepard to admire her "body and mind" as he puts it. I really liked how Shepard broke that barrier in Miranda's mind, and I think Miranda became a much more confident person, in herself and in Shepard, due to that one line of Shepard's. Really powerful. Then if you continue the romantic interest in Miranda, I believe when she asks Shepard to survive the suicide mission, it really does show that she needs Shepard by her side and that he is the one person Miranda can really trust. She has never had a more significant man in her life, and Miranda knows this.
God the depth of her character, unparalleled.
